22.01.2022 Did you know that Koombana Bay is part of CoastSnapWA? CoastSnapWa is a coastal monitoring program that relies on community-sourced smartphone imagery. Next time you're at Koombana Bay, you can get involved by using the smartphone camera stand attached to the Dolphin Discovery Centre's beach access. These photos are then uploaded, shared via social media and/or emailed to a database where, in addition to providing qualitative information of the coast and beach state, beac...h width measurements and shoreline position can be extracted. Coastal researchers can also use this data to investigate in response to the long-term effects of climate change. #coastsnapwa Coastsnapwa

14.01.2022 A Dolphin in distress was sighted in a Bunbury river. On Monday, the Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Centre was contacted by a member of the public reporting the stranded Dolphin in the Preston river. The Dolphin was witnessed on its side on a sandbank near the bridge on Estuary Drive. Within 15 minutes our Rapid Response team, headed by our Conservation Manager and 6 volunteers, was on site with rescue equipment. After surveying the reported location, the dolphin was found safel...y swimming downstream towards the estuary. We believe the dolphin was hunting in the shallows of the river and became beached on a sandbank. The dolphin was able to free itself, without requiring our assistance. It is common for dolphins to use special hunting techniques in rivers and estuaries involving shallow water.
