23.01.2022 Critter of the Month OCTOPUS! Given yesterday was World Octopus Day, it seems only fitting this highly intelligent cephalopod features as our Critter of the Month! Occies have a sac-like body with 8 arms covered by suckers. These suckers are used to grip and also to taste. If they lose an arm to a predator, they are called a Septopus (this isn’t a scientific fact I just made that up).... They are nocturnal, spending their days hidden away in lairs and coming out at night to hunt. Occies have powerful jaws: a beak which can bite through shells they love eating crabs! You can always spot an occie lair from the pile of discarded shells sitting at the entrance. Occies are capable of squirting black ink from their bums when threatened. This black ink forms a phantom shape about the same size of the escaping animal. They move through the water by jet propulsion. They do this by ejecting water through a funnel-shaped siphon. They are masters of camouflage, with the ability to change colours to blend in with their surroundings. They also use these colour changes to communicate and to attract mates. The most common octopus we see in Perth waters is the Gloomy Octopus. They can be very inquisitive, and are known to feel divers’ gloves, and for trying to steal cameras! We do occasionally see Southern White Spot occies. They are a sand octopus (they hide under the sand during the day). They are more orange in colour, with long, thin arms covered in white spots. And of course, we have the Blue Ringed Octopus which is so awesome it deserves its own Critter of the Month segment! You can see occies at all our dive spots along the Perth coastline they are extremely common!

05.01.2022 Our Critter of the Month this month is definitely on the larger side: its the DWARF MINKE WHALE! We are so lucky to have these beautiful creatures hanging around at the moment Dwarf Minkes have a narrow, pointed snout making them look a bit like torpedos. Their colour patterns are very complex, with bands of white, grey and black. Scientists still have a lot to learn about Dwarf Minke Whales. What they do know is:... They are smallest of the baleen whale family, growing to 7-9m long (the females are slightly bigger than the males); They weigh between 5-7 tonnes Their lifespan is unknown It is believed they birth one calf a year (but this is also unknown) There is not enough information to plot migration patterns for Dwarf Minke Whales but what we do know is: we see them in Perth waters end-July/early August every year. Being highly inquisitive creatures, they have been checking us out regularly on our safety stops, and have been approaching the boat. If you want to see one now is the time! Were hoping to head out on the boat this week (weather permitting - watch out on Facebook for more information) Fingers crossed they stick around for another week!

WE LOVE SUNDAYS!!!!

04.01.2022 Look at all the adventures that Callum and the Radiant Rebreather boyz have been having over the past month! With a special appearance from batman himself, and fun zoom zooms on the scooters this video is not to be missed!

03.01.2022 It might have been a bit of a surgy dive last night - but that didn't matter to those who saw the TURTLE (yes! a turtle!! Photos are on their way), and the massive Port Jackson Shark! Plus the sneaky pub meal and beer afterwards was the best way to finish off a lovely evening... BIG thanks Image Dive and Charters, and to everyone who came along!
