23.01.2022 NO MORE PRINT VERSIONS OF OUR PAPERS The owner of our local papers has announced an end to printed versions, they are to become online only. I am very saddened ...by this decision. The Northern Star, Daily Examiner, Coffs Coast Advocate, Ballina Advocate, Tweed Daily News and Byron Shire News will stop printing and become digital only, from June 29. The Northern Rivers Echo and Richmond River Express Examiner will cease publication, this local coverage will feed into the closest online paper. There are people in our community, especially the elderly, who still rely on print to receive their news. I am also concerned about the potential job losses in our regional community. My thoughts today are with the staff at our local papers. Thank you, to our journalists, photographers, editors and advertising staff. You will continue to play an important role in our community.

22.01.2022 ***All students will return to school on Monday 25 May 2020*** Dear Parents and Carers, Thank you for supporting the school with the phased return of our studen...ts. The Premier and Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning announced yesterday that all students will return to full time on-campus teaching and learning from next Monday 25 May (Week 5 Term 2). The managed return to school, which began on Monday 11 May has demonstrated that our education system and our communities are ready for schools to go back to fulltime on-campus teaching and learning in line with the National and NSW Ministry of Health advice. To provide further information about the full return to school I have attached a guide for parents and carers provided by the Department of Education. As of Monday 25 May, all students are expected to return to school to resume the normal school curriculum. Work packs for home learning will no longer be required. Please return work packs and any lap top computers to school with your child on Monday. When returning to school please remember: Return work packs and lap tops. Bring a packed lunchbox and water bottle. The canteen remains closed until further notice. School hats and school uniform are essential. If your child is unwell please organise to keep them at home. In order to minimise visitors to the school we ask families collecting their children in the afternoon to wait outside under the COLA or at the front student entry gate. The school buses continue to operate as normal for children who catch the bus. Semester One Student Reports Student reports will change in their appearance for Semester One. Schools are not required to report using the traditional A-E scale. Our reports will be a simplified version of our usual reporting template and will be sent home to all families in Week 10. Information regarding parent teacher interviews will be available closer to the end of term. I truly appreciate the support our school has received from our community whilst we have been juggling at home and at school learning. Please call the school if you have any questions about the full return to school. Leah Keough Relieving Principal

08.01.2022 From June 1, pubs, cafes and restaurants will be able to serve up to 50 people at a time as NSW coronavirus cases continue to decline. Under the new measures, h...ospitality venues will be required to adhere to strict guidelines to operate: * Each patron must have at least four-square-metres of space * Bookings can be no larger than 10 people * No patrons will be allowed to stand, mingle or dance * Shared cutlery and buffets are also banned Q&A as follows - restaurants, cafes, pubs and clubs Why have you decided to set the limit at 50 people? We believe 50 people strikes the right balance between enabling many more venues to open up in a safe manner for the community, while at the same time ensuring they adhere to social distancing guidelines. It will also assist many operators by allowing them to cater for more people at their venues and be financially viable. Does this mean a venue with multiple rooms or set over two floors can have more than 50 people? No however if a venue has multiple restaurants or cafes up to 50 people are permitted in each. For example a building such as a club with two separate restaurants on premises could have 50 in each restaurant. Does the four square metre rule apply? Yes Can you just go to a pub or club for a beer or other drink? You can go a pub or club and have a drink without having a meal. But you’ll have to sit to help ensure social distancing. Are you worried this change may lead to a spike in COVID-19 cases - especially with the long week-end and school holidays approaching? We have been working with Clubs NSW, the AHA and the Restaurant and Catering Industry Association to ensure they are prepared for the changes and their members are ready to implement the required social distancing and health guidelines. Are pokies and bars included? Venues will have the flexibility to open gaming areas in addition to dining areas. However, the total head count on site can’t exceed the amount dictated by the number of separate dining areas, which must be open and available for service. What is the economic benefit to NSW of these changes? Around 280,000 people are employed in the food and beverage services industry in NSW (full and part time). At a time when we have seen unemployment increase by tens of thousands of people it is important we can safely re-open these businesses. Around 90 per cent of businesses in the restaurant and catering industry are classified as small businesses so this is an important boost for them.

05.01.2022 Road users reminded to be safe in school zones Police are reminding all road users to be safe around schools, as students return to normal schedules today.... During the COVID-19 restrictions school zones have remained in place as normal, however the number of children in attendance has been greatly reduced. Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy of the state’s Traffic and Highway Patrol Command said with school students back in full attendance from today, all road users need to consider the risks to themselves and young people.
