22.01.2022 A special client story from our charity of the month, Sustain Projects Myanmar: From the Maternal Health Project in Kyaukkyi, Myanmar. ... It is a miracle that this beautiful 24-year-old mother, Naw Aye Soe Paw did not become one of Eastern Myanmar’s alarming maternal mortality statistics. She lives in a very remote farming community in Karen State and wasn’t too worried when her 3rd baby was 2 weeks overdue like her other 2 babies. However, she did visit the nearest traditional birth attendant (TBA) who advised her that her baby was lying sideways and referred her to the Midwifery Dept at the T-RAD clinic. It was a long journey by truck for Naw Aye Soe Paw and her husband. At the antenatal clinic an ultrasound not only confirmed that her baby was lying transverse, but it also showed a complete placenta previa (placenta covering the inner cervix.) A vaginal delivery was not an option. The midwives immediately arranged for her to be transferred to hospital for a C-section and Naw Aye Soe Paw soon had her healthy baby girl in her arms. There is no doubt that two precious lives were saved that day. Thank you to the SPM team for providing us with such an incredible story, and to our regular DDW donors for helping us to support programs such as the Maternal Health Project.

12.01.2022 Education is the key to generational change and a brighter future for Indigenous Australians. This November, we are proud to support Yalari in helping Indigenous people to receive a quality education and develop skills to pursue their dreams. Yalari identifies children who are doing well at school and gives them the opportunity to be educated at leading boarding schools throughout Australia. 09.01.2022 One of the things missing from Tuesday's budget was funding for social housing. Homelessness services also received a cut of $41.3 million. If you know of charities working in social housing or homelessness, we'd love to hear from you. You can send us a message or nominate a charity directly at our website: https://www.donateadollaraweek.org/nominate-a-charity.... #charity #socialhousing
