25.01.2022 300 cards have hit the streets for the pay it forward system at Gapfed cafe. Thats 150 soup vouchers at $750 and 150 hot drink vouchers at $600! Can we please head over to their fb page and give Paula and Greg some amazing reviews? They are the backbone of the initiative and without them this never could have happened.

25.01.2022 In honour of National Homelessness Week we will be doing case studies every night that I hope will help give a deeper insight into homelessness. *TRIGGER WARNING* Case studies discuss cancer, car accidents and death ... Please be advised that this content is not suitable for children and may be distressing. After listening to the case studies please consider the following questions. Please do not criticise or humiliate people for their questions, this is an opportunity for everyone to challenge their beliefs or stigma about homelessness and crisis situations. We encourage people to send any questions they may have through Facebook messenger if they feel they may be sensitive Case study Tony What support services does Tony need? Do you think Tony is at fault? What duty of care does the hospital have in regards to Tony upon his disclosure that he is homeless? Case Study Kelly What support services would you recommend for Kelly? What services are available to young people experiencing crisis? Do you believe Kelly deserves to be in this position?

25.01.2022 Its not even 9am and her soup is already keeping everyone warm. Please head down to Gapfed 34 Playne street and see Paula if you are hungry, for the pay it forward system. Todays soup of the day is Mixed Lentil Soup. *Please also take note that all photos are taken with informed consent*

25.01.2022 I know this photo doesnt look like much but its a glimpse of the care thats being take at the showers. Frankston City Council worked with us to ensure the showers could stay open and have organised cleaners in between each client since COVID19 was first announced. We are so grateful to have them behind the scenes keeping people safe and ensuring the showers can continue

24.01.2022 Since launching the pay it forward early last month 65 soups and 93 hot drinks have been provided to those is need. Gapfed will be staying open for take away during the lock down. 22.01.2022 We got in just before it rained! Wishing everyone a wonderful Sunday

22.01.2022 Unfortunately due to the Stage 4 restrictions Gapfed cafe has had to close. Paula and Greg have been absolutely amazing and with your donations have been able to provide (from the 1st of June till the 31st of July) 214 hot drinks (coffee/tea/hot chocolate) ... 186 Soup meals 17 pasta meals This has been an amazing achievement! The community came together to provide more than just hot meals but also showed survivors that we care Every donation that was received was put directly towards the initiative, and we encourage everyone to stay home so that the restrictions are lifted so Gapfed can reopen in 6 weeks. The first few weeks were slow but within the second month an average of $500 per week was needed to keep the program running, which shows that it has been a huge success and a much needed program within our community. Please please stay home, the more we adhere to the restrictions the less chance this virus can infect our loved ones and the faster our state will reopen. If you would like to donate the pay it forward meals program account is Westpac Donation Chain BSB: 033179 Account: 335548

22.01.2022 We would like to please remind people to keep their dogs restrained and on a lead at all times in areas that are required. We have received reports that there is a big black dog by the name of Rose/Rosie that has been running up to rough sleepers unrestrained and in an aggressive manner along Nepean Highway. This has been quite a frightening experience and people have called out for the dog to be restrained only to be ignored by the owner. ... We will be making a report to Frankston City Council when they open tomorrow but just wanted to reach out to to the public. We are currently looking at purchasing a loud horn or other deterrents as this is very traumatising for one individual in particular, but due to COVID-19 shopping is restricted and delivery will take time. Thank you

22.01.2022 Please head down to Community Support Frankston 35 Beach Street Frankston if you need cards for the free meals at Gapfed Cafe

21.01.2022 Michael had gone through a really rough time and needed some support. We were honoured to be there for him during that time. Thank you so much Michael, your kindness will help many others through their journey. Gapfed

Thanks Jodie!

16.01.2022 * WE ARE WORKING WITH MEOW CAT RESCUE TO HELP THESE CATS. Thank you! * This isnt something that we would normally post but a gentlemen has asked us to ask the community for help. *if you know this person please do not comment with any identifying information such as his name or description* ... We have a gentleman who is rough sleeping and has about two dozen cats. Due to COVID19 the supermarkets have increased their prices for pretty much everything. He is having trouble feeding them and has asked for help with cat food. I understand that the general response will be that he has to rehome these cats, and it has been a slow process to do so (last year he had over 30 cats) but please be aware that these cats keep him alive, they keep him warm and give him love. This is Buddy, buddy appeared one day and never left. Most of these cats are strays that have found a home him. If anyone could please donate some cat food at our drop off points Bendigo Bank Carrum Downs or Bendigo Bank Frankston.

15.01.2022 I know this photo doesn’t look like much but it’s a glimpse of the care that’s being take at the showers. We were honoured to offer our support and ensured her car was filled with toiletries to be handed out during opening hours.

10.01.2022 A few months ago we posted about a gentleman who was rough sleeping and also looking after the local strays and abandoned cats. We were amazed with the level of support from the community in donations to help feed the cats, it was so heart warming how many people cared. We linked in with MEOW Rescue who has then worked with this gentleman and taken on the huge task of providing them with medical care and when the time is right to rehouse them. Please have a look at their po...st and please donate if you can, many of the cats are needing urgent medical care and some are pregnant. We wish them the best in their journey to new homes! Thank you so much to the amazing volunteers at Meow Resuce for all your hard work and support. https://www.facebook.com/755588294496436/posts/3412790305442875/?extid=0&d=n

08.01.2022 In honour of National Homelessness week I usually dont shower and record the experience but this year due to Covid its really important to maintain a higher standard of hygiene. Ive just made a quick video that explains DC, the reasons it started and then structure of the organisations. Each night throughout the week Ill be uploading videos that challenge the perception of homelessness and we will be discussing case studies. ... These are based real people, their names and any identifying information has been changed to ensure their anonymity but I hope it gives an insight into the causes of homelessness and the experiences people face. We encourage people to ask questions whether that be in the comments or through private messages. People do not ridicule or harass people for their questions, its important to understand that there are many different perceptions and to educate rather than humiliate. #nationalhomelessnessweek2020

05.01.2022 Wow! We were overwhelmed by the amount of support and donations we received when we first announced the pay it forward system with the Gapfed cafe, and thankfully we’ve been able to hand out almost 600 meals in 7 weeks to our vulnerable community during these trying times. Paula and Greg have done an amazing job at ensuring all the meals are nutritious and filling. Gapfed had been unfortunately forced to close during the pandemic but reopened a few weeks ago and is now open ...7 days a week. Monday Friday 7am-4pm, Saturday 8am-1pm, Sunday’s 9am-1pm which is wonderful! However, we are need of that community spirit again. At present we have enough funds to provide meals for another 4 weeks only. We are asking for financial donations to keep this system going, donations as small as 50 cents can go a long way to ensuring someone gets to eat tonight! We understand not everyone has the ability to lend a financial hand, if you would like to help out in other ways, please check out our page, hit like and share to your friends. We are also always accepting donations of toiletries and our open drop off point is Bendigo Bank Carrum Downs. If you would like to donate towards our pay it forward system please make your donations to this account Donation Chain Westpac account details are: BSB: 033179 Account: 335548 or if it’s within your 25km radius and it’s safe to do so please pop in and see for yourself the life changing experiences that happen in the cafe. https://donationchain.org.au/donate/
