24.01.2022 Very clever little species.

17.01.2022 How to NOT get stung by bees when saving a swarm by hand. BREATHE remain calm and visualise the task. Warm your hands and GO SLOW . ... Don’t rush be delicate. Your fingers should be the same temperature as within your own body as your fingers glide within the cluster you feel their warmth and vulnerability. Bees share our core temperature of 37 degrees. Feel their connection and move your fingers deep within the cluster let them seperate, admire their galvanised strength and as they release their grip gently put a large handful of bees within the box or directly onto a frame. Delicately repeat the process and than observe the divided cluster. Look out for the Queenbee. The cluster without the queen will become agitated and than take flight to join the rest of the colony. If the queen is in her new home the whole colony will join her. Indulge in the sound and pheromones in the airthe bees will appear magical as they communicate they have a new home. Try to let them bee until dusk as all the bees will be in the hive. Move the colony to a location where there is a lot of flowers and they will be appreciated.

13.01.2022 Hope all of you are enjoying a little more freedom with less restrictions on travel and leisure. All committee members would like to extend their best wishes to everyone during this festive season and hope 2021 is a happy and safe one. Meetings will recommence in February and we all look forward to our regular, social gatherings. Merry Christmas, take a break, and remember to keep yourselves and the bees hydrated.

11.01.2022 Ever heard of a bee broker? Trevor is one! He facilitates the movement of millions of bees from Queensland to Victoria to pollinate Australia's booming almond orchards. ABC Landline is revisiting this story for Landline Summer this Sunday.
