19.01.2022 Unfortunately, Dongara Chickens will not be setting up at the Platform Markets today. After power outages in Dongara this morning we got to Geraldton later than expected and found the weather not suitable for putting the little chicks out on display. 09.01.2022 WE'VE GOT THE BLUES..... Are you looking to "colour-up" your pen? We all love our heritage breed chickens in all their wonderful shapes and sizes, but where do the "blues" fit in? Put very simply the formula is Black +White (splash) = Grey (Blue). In most breeds, the Blue are a recognized variety, and offer a great addition to the family, making it very easy to have a rainbow pen yet keeping within a breed. The shade of blue can vary greatly even from the same parents, so yo...u have the anticipation of waiting for them to grow up before you know exactly what colour they'll be. For those who want a little more detail, here's a very brief colour genetics chart BLACK = BB. BLUE = Bb. SPLASH = bb BB+BB=all BB chicks BB+Bb=50% BB 50% Bb chicks BB+bb=all Bb chicks Bb+Bb=50%Bb, 25%BB, 25%bb Bb+bb=50%Bb, 50%bb. Here at Dongara Chickens, this is our first year of hatching Blue Barnevelder, Blue-Laced Gold Wyandotte and Blue Australorp. This week we feature our Blue Barnevelder. "FRED" (BB) our rooster is quite the ladies man...or he seems to fancy himself as one. "Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum" are his lovely splash(bb) girls. Their offspring are all Blue (Bb). The photos of the young range from 0-10weeks of age.

09.01.2022 After a pretty disastrous attempt last weekend, Dongara Chickens will be at the Geraldton Platform Markets this coming Sunday 23/12. Sorry to anyone who was hoping to catch us last weekend that did not find us. After travelling to Geraldton we felt the weather was unsuitable for the little chicks and therefore did not set up. This week we will have a variety of 2-3 week old chicks, some sexed girls (from 6 weeks) and fertile eggs.
