25.01.2022 Just putting this out into the Universe Thanks for your support

23.01.2022 I think we’re going to have (extra) FUN this week!! *This is the video post, the photo is below.

23.01.2022 Last year, I had the honour of being named a Regional Winner in the ‘Family Day Care Australia Excellence In Family Day Care Awards’! As part of my award, I was able to undertake a professional development training course of my choosing, through Early Childhood Australia. I was excited to choose the topic ‘STEAM Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics’. This course consisted of five self-paced learning modules and was invaluable for my professional developmen...t and ongoing learning and reflection. STEAM learning focuses on assisting children to learn practical life skills using an explorative, playful, collaborative approach. By observing children’s learning and following their lead, I can extend onto children’s current and emerging interests using a STEAM approach to aid children in the growth of their knowledge. STEAM learning opportunities are all around us in our everyday collaboration with children. From helping children to learn how to do up buttons, zips and shoelaces, encouraging them to question and research familiar and new topics, constructing towers out of natural and man-made materials and taking turns whilst contributing to group learning, to the more traditional ‘science experiments’ and ‘projects’, the possibilities of STEAM learning are endless and exciting! This course was really inspiring and has helped me to further encourage children’s natural curiosity of their surroundings. I am very thankful for this professional development opportunity and would highly recommend this training course.

22.01.2022 Little Bear, Annabelle, Giraffie and Elephant are enjoying a lovely cuppa and a bikkie whilst they wait for their little people to arrive!

19.01.2022 A visit to the Causeway - look what we saw!

19.01.2022 As part of our emerging literacy learning this week, we had some fun in the kitchen! We used a combination of store bought and homegrown ingredients to make quiche and cupcakes. Our cooking experiences led to many great opportunities for us to practice our existing literacy skills and to learn some new ones. Some of these skills included: engaging with different texts to gain meaning - reading the ingredients, following the method... interacting verbally and non-verbally for a range of purposes - communicating with each other about our observations and processes, negotiating, turn taking, sharing, instructing expressing ideas and making meaning - hypothesising, experimenting, sharing ideas understanding how symbols and pattern systems work - recognising that letters form words which, when read together, form the recipe, understanding that numbers represent quantity using information and communication technology to access information, investigate ideas and represent thinking - researching recipes, taking photos of our work Aside from all the learning involved, the best part was that we were able to share our delicious cooking with our families - yum!!

19.01.2022 Experimenting with float and sink has been a big interest recently. To extend the children’s learning, I set up this play invitation using different items from around us. We engaged in hypothesising whether certain items would float or sink in a tub of water. We took it in turns to choose an item and make our hypothesis, test the item and then review our decision. We categorised the the items into a float tray and a sink tray. We tested the items several times and, during our tests, we noticed that the cup floated when it was put in empty but it sank when it was put in full - how interesting!

15.01.2022 Check out our homemade fridge magnets! They can hold all of our creative artworks on the fridge!

14.01.2022 I’m so grateful to the wonderful person who nominated me - thank you!!

14.01.2022 We loose parts play! Not only are these resources open-ended with many different uses in our play and learning to extend our imaginations and foster our creativity, they also help us to learn about recycling and repurposing items instead of throwing them away!

12.01.2022 We small world play!!

11.01.2022 Welcome to mini golf!!

11.01.2022 What can we make for the dinosaurs? Combining natural, recycled and man-made resources to enhance play and learning.

09.01.2022 Our construction table set up using a variety of resources including natural, recycled and man-made.

09.01.2022 Our visit to Urimbirra Wildlife Park! What fun we had!

09.01.2022 A big interest for us at the moment has been trucks and construction vehicles. This has been a spontaneous, child-led learning journey which originated from watching the road works near our house. To extend this learning interest, I set up our own little construction world. It has been a big hit so far and will likely be added to over a period of time, as guided by children.

09.01.2022 Creating butterflies using flowers and leaves from our garden. (This was a learning experience based on one of our favourite books at the moment - ‘Garden Stew’!)

08.01.2022 I get to do what I love every single day - educating and caring for children - how lucky am I?!

07.01.2022 We combined sensory play and nature play this morning! We used paint brushes and squeezy bottles of water to melt the ice cubes and discover the flowers and leaves hidden inside!

06.01.2022 Who wants to come camping with us?!

06.01.2022 With all this lovely warm weather, we have been enjoying lots of water play! Take a look at this interesting article which outlines the learning benefits children receive when they engage in water play https://www.careforkids.com.au//plunging-into-the-creative

04.01.2022 These are just some of the valuable life lessons that I encourage as I help children to be the best they can be and have a positive impact on our world

04.01.2022 Some of our recent story tables! Which one is your favourite?

04.01.2022 Today we’ve been using natural resources we’ve collected from our garden to make and create. Lots of fine motor skill practice, sharing, communicating and creativity!

04.01.2022 Check out our obstacle course!! The children this week are going to be BUSY! *Video to follow shortly.

04.01.2022 Today we had the fantastic opportunity to welcome an author/illustrator of Indigenous Australian books into our learning space. This was a wonderful experience for us here at Donna’s Family Day Care! We learned a lot about Indigenous Australian culture and it’s significance within our society.

03.01.2022 Something to think about...

01.01.2022 Today we made homemade lemonade with homegrown lemons and it was a huge success! We practiced and learned skills whilst contributing to the group project. Turn taking, speech and language development, reading/following the recipe, fine motor skills to cut, squeeze, pour, scoop and mix, team work, maths skills to measure ingredients, notice full and empty, heavy and light and the numbers on the recipe and the measuring jug, creativity and imagination to create and taste our lemonade and make the labels for our bottles, curiosity to see how the mixture would turn out and how it would change at each stage (especially when we added the fizzy soda water!!) We had so much fun!!
