23.01.2022 Since 1949 the US has recognized May as Mental Health Awareness Month, and this year it seems especially appropriate as the country, and the world, is in the mi...ddle of a global pandemic that has caused many of us to physically distance ourselves from our friends and family. Mental health can be a struggle for many people at different points in their lives, whether it is temporary or a life long journey they wrestle with. The important thing to keep in mind is that you are not alone, different methods work for different people. Eagala is a mental health organization dedicated to revolutionizing mental health treatment by incorporating horses in the therapy process. Equine-assisted psychotherapy is where individuals interact with horses, as part of their treatment plan with a licensed mental health professional and an equine specialist. Eagala's Model does not involve riding the horse, rather it involves interacting with the horses and environment through experiences that end up paralleling other areas and relationships in life. The Eagala Model is unique, not just because we involve horses, but because of how we facilitate the clients' experience with the horses to drive change. Horses are highly intelligent and highly sensitive to our emotional state, they can sense where you are at, and can respond in ways that a talk therapy session cannot provide. Each session impacts clients by not just talking, but through experiencing, feeling, and seeing their life stories unfold and change in the moment.
22.01.2022 Praise is especially important for their effort, even if the outcome isnt complete. The effort is much harder for a child with ADHD & they need to know that their effort is worthy.
22.01.2022 This is well worth watching. Very informative hoof function lecture.

Biosecurity has always been in place at Donovan Park but now enforced. Entry is by prior arrangement only. Visiting floats & vehicles cannot have mud etc underneath which may drop off causing a transfer from one property to another. Upon arrival, wash your hands with soap in the amenities provided before you unload your horse. Take your horses manure back home with you. Clean your horses hooves out PRIOR to loading them to come to Donovan Park. I offer varied services both on Donovan Park & my clients properties. Biosecurity & Coronavirus must be taken seriously & I will do my best to uphold the above precautionary measures. If anyone would like to talk to me about this or any concerns they have, I'm all, ears. Also, if there is anything else you feel I should be doing, once again, I'm all ears. We are all responsible. Jo

21.01.2022 What does mindfulness look like for you? For me it's riding Jaffa in the Cluan Tier. The rhythm of the horse walking sets a rhythm for the brain so all the thou...ghts & ideas I have racing through my brain are brought under control & in logical perspective. I have a lot to be grateful for on Donovans Road. See more
20.01.2022 Come & meet Pixie & Trixie at Donovan Parks Animal Interaction. Aaaaaw just too cute
20.01.2022 I'm a huge advocate for getting out in nature. It's what I do for mindfulness because I have to be moving. It's even better on a horse with the rhythmic swinging motion setting the pattern for the brain to slow down = organised thinking. I make most of my decisions in the Cluan Tier on horseback with my dogs running along side. I am also able to offer this experience to others, children or adults alike. www.donovanpark.com.au
19.01.2022 There are many benefits for the horse to have regular hoof trims to restore balance & function, but I was surprised at how much difference it makes to their desire to move around when turned out, even when on 6 week trim cycles. Horses have evolved from moving over long distances daily where their hooves naturally wore down due to the terrain they travelled on. We now keep our horses in paddocks, yards & stalls, none of which attend to the natural hoof trimming theyve evolve...d from. The paddock grass & hard feeds are richer than the horses' internal system is designed for so gut problems are common which also affects the hooves. The hooves grow fast but while their round bodies, beautiful coats etc depict a picture of health, the horses movement is compromised when the hooves are allowed to become overgrown & overdue for trimming & rebalancing. Six weeks is the longest time any horse should go before it has its hooves trimmed. It would be ideal if owners adopted some basic maintenance hoof trimming skills so as to rasp the hoof at 3 weeks to avoid long heels, uneven heels, long toes, etc & therefore allow the horse peak mobility at optimum comfort. Happy for comments. See more
19.01.2022 I will be in the Railton area this Saturday arvo & will be available around 2pm if you need any hoof trims, soft tissue release bodywork or saddlefit assessments. I also carry Magnesium Chloride $35 / 1.5kg. Message me if you need me to call in.

17.01.2022 There's only so much planning that can go into EAL because the horses sometimes make up there own rules... or in this case... Wonky donkey who turns himself into a villain.

14.01.2022 Making Friends Talk endlessly to someone about your interests when it's not your interest and they will quickly get bored and walk away. That's Friendship Chemistry - every action has a reaction. If you observe how they behave and adjust yourself to adapt, then ask what they are interested in, you might just find a common interest. Stand in they're shoes - how do they feel, what are they thinking. Think how much more fun life can be with friends.
13.01.2022 Jaffa enjoying his first free jumping clinic. It was fun to be out with this young horse who was very well behaved. You're never quite sure what you'll get when you start taking a young horse out & about. Sincere thanks to Merindah Thomson & Robyn Nibbs for the pics.

08.01.2022 Social isolation is harder on some than others. No one is restricted to their home unless in quarantine. Everyone can meet with one other friend & go for a walk. Exercise is highly recommended for mental health & catching up with a friend in this way is good for both to have that in person experience when FaceTime just isn't enough. If cabin fever is getting too much for you, Donovan Park may be able to help with a 2 hour mindfulness session on horseback. No saying OM, just open air, peace & nature with the movement of the horse to regulate the rhythm of your brain. Taking bookings now. www.donovanpark.com.au

06.01.2022 This is fascinating. I know of 'leaky gut' in people but had never considered it in horses. Listen to this most informative webinar & learn about the relationship between the gut & the brain, how psychological factors allow the leakage of pathogens etc into the intestine & the common conditions related to this. such as gastric ulcers, off their feed, laminitis, & more. This is so well explained.

04.01.2022 Who can resist baby kids?
04.01.2022 If your child (or yourself struggle to follow instructions, are easily distracted etc, read the below article for some ideas of what may help. I find that by getting them to write down the instructions it has a number of benefits. It gives them the opportunity to read back their understanding of the instructions as well as the opportunity to break it down into tasks (with time-limits) rather than an overwhelming project. Projects can become BORING which leads to distraction. Give it a go then Id love to hear how it worked out.
03.01.2022 Magnesium Chloride Given daily via oral syringe or in feed, it makes the world of difference to your horses mental & physical well-being. I stock Food Grade MAG C in 1 1/2kg bags. Order yours now.
03.01.2022 ADD/ADHD - kids ... teens ... adults ... parents ... in Tasmania Daily challenges are even greater with the current isolation precautions. I will respond in a timely manner during business hours). [email protected] The researched information I provide to you will be free. Here at Donovan Park I facilitate a number of outdoor programs that may also help. Under the current Covid-19 precautions I can continue to work with single clients. 03.01.2022 With the amount of rain we've had of late, there shouldn't be any skinny horses around. If your horse is skinny, however, there is a problem. If it isn't addressed now your horse will suffer through winter. Whether it be poor quality pasture because its full of weeds & never seen lime or fertilizer or been reseeded, or whether its general poor health such as in need of dental work, etc, it needs looking into NOW! Feeding soaked lupins is a cost efficient way of adding fat to the diet as well as a bit extra protein. Its highly palatable & easy to chew/mush for older horses with less teeth. I get mine from Roberts Prospect. Its cheap & it works. Of course it wont work on its own. You still have to be able to provide adequate bulk that has the nutrients they require.
03.01.2022 This is a brilliant activity for children to do in the holidays. Teaching children to care about themselves, others and the planet is a great buffer against future depression and suicide. Its that powerful!
03.01.2022 Most parents aren't prepared for an ADHD child. An ADHD child needs their parents support and understanding just like any other child. There is abundant information available for parents so they can understand, support and raise their child to feel loved and valued and thrive to be the best person they can be. ADHD is a life-long disorder but when parents are educated about ADHD, the road ahead becomes much easier for the ADHD child and their family, school, friends, etc. ADHD is not a problem that can be fixed. It requires teaching the child how to self manage and believe in themselves. This can only be done effectively long term with the support and understanding of the parents at home. Eagala and Equine Assisted Learning are very effective models to assist get everyone back on track.
