25.01.2022 Hello my friends, what a beautiful Day it’s been. Really feeling spring in the air. Blue blue sky and all the birds getting their nests ready for their new offspring. I love this time of year. Today I went to visit a friend and then we went for a lunch. While we were there I picked up a Coast Community News which comes out every Friday, and there was a pile of them at the cafe where we were eating. I received a call from my friend Dave Abrahams who told me that there was a b...Continue reading
25.01.2022 As my book has been on Amazon Kindle I thought I would share some reviews and ramp it up a bit. Being in isolation gives us more time to read and connect. The audiobook is just being proof listened to and will be available soon bu in the meantime here are a few reviews which I am so grateful for. "This book touched my heart. From the beginning as traumatic times were unfolding through war and tragedy, to liberation and new beginnings a thread of unmistakable love of family an...d life prevails through this family story. Janka and Alberto’s gift is that we must never forget but that we must also forgive and love. Nina's gift is also of love, inclusiveness and acceptance of all wrapped in love, art and a quirky sense fun. How lucky are those who have been touched by this remarkable woman. A great read I highly recommend. Judi Anderson "This is one of those books that grab you from the first chapter. A book about family loss, unbelievable devastation but above all, love and forgiveness. Its also about striving to pass on a better life (even world) to those that come after Life for Europe's minority was fraught at best, and catastrophic at worst. Their lives were shaped by cunning, intellect, chance and luck all rolled into one. This family saga is a brilliant read. You can feel the danger that surrounds them and rejoice in their small acts of defiance. The loss of family is unfathomable. What I got from this is their depth of feeling for one another and their sheer determination to survive and lead productive positive lives. This book is a must for modern history buffs and anyone interested in populations scarred by war. I loved that it was in the first person telling their own story. Much more authentic. I really got how they both told it differently, Janka more emotional and Alberto more matter of fact. Loved it, well done Nina. I highly recommend it. Bob Owen.
23.01.2022 This is my first short reading of Janka's Story.
22.01.2022 Hello everyone, Hope you are all well. Just an update on what's happening with Don't Cry, Dance. Firstly it is now on Amazon Kindle so it can go on holidays with you or get carried around on your iPhone or whatever. I am so grateful to my friends Laura and David who have helped me by sitting with me for hours and traversing the internet and finding out the hows and helping me with the writing for kindle and in so many other ways. I haven't been feeling very strong as I tra...vel through my healing journey, I am so grateful to my friends who have and are still helping me get my family story out there as well as to those friends and family who give me so much love and support in myriad different ways. The Audiobook is also almost finished thanks to my very special sistar Yantra de Vilder. She has been so patient and generous. It has taken so many hours of recording time in her studio as well as all the fine-tuning in getting it ready for sale. Also, there is a second print run of my book happening right now. Yes, apart from about 20 copies I have sold all the first print run. Have almost sold out in Bookface as well. This is so good for me and judging from all the reviews, and there are many, they are so positive and the feedback makes me happy that it has been so well received, and read. I have been invited to present my book at a conference in Byron Bay in a couple of weeks, then in April the Greek Festival of Sydney has also selected me with another 6 authors to launch Don't Cry, Dance at their Writers festival. I am thrilled to have also been invited to be on a panel talking about my book at the Margaret River Writers Festival as well. Thank you, Margot Edwards, my dear friend, mentor, playwright, producer and who edited the second part of my book. It was at Margs and Gerry's Zani Place where I was the writer in residence twice and wrote most of my book there. I think that's enough for now. It has been a while since I last wrote and I do apologise, but my life's journey took an unexpected turn.... on track shortly but then, at the same time, Don't Cry, Dance has taken on a life of its own. Thrilled. Sending love and be kind. Nina***
22.01.2022 Here are a few photos from the awesome sculpture that Pete Rush created on our Cockrone Lagoon. Many professional photographers have had a field day. I would like to thank Pete Rush for his inspired creation and Zee Moo, Tim Freer, Dave Gosling and Kevin Morgan for their professional photo's. It has been very humbling and the sculpture of Don't Cry Dance, like ephemera, has now gone but these awesome images remain.
18.01.2022 Hello my friends, again I haven’t been here for a while but as I’m feeling stronger every day, I am stronger and can now see where I can go to get the message that Don’t Cry,Dance has within its pages and stories. A few more months of strengthening my body and I’m out there. It’s an important time to inspire and how to rise above the challenges and trauma we have to heal and change. I honestly believe now I understand this thing called life at a different and more optimistic ...level. I’m so ready to go out there and talk the talk. A few more months but I’m here. As the Sydney Jewish Museum is closed because of the Covid 19 and they were posting out books from their shop, I have a second print run here at home and can post to you if you wish. Please message me and I can send and sign the book personally to you. I have been getting so many great reviews and would love to share a couple here with you. I send you my love and thanks for your support always and in all ways. Be kind, Nina*** Book Review From Deb Tipper This book resonates with characters of strength, resilience, connection and spirit. This a tale of survival against the odds, and a generosity of spirit which speaks through the love and positivity of the many generations of the family of Nina, its author. The horrendous legacy of the second world war and its impact on the Jewish community permeates the book, for Nina’s parents and grandparents, but also for her in travels to Europe to secure her identity through meeting head on that history of her parents. However, what shines through this book is the love, strength and resilience of her family members. This is Nina’s story of her family. A renowned creative artist and storyteller who has worked across the country and in the Pacific, this book shines with Nina’s desire to understand, share and explore her parent’s lives. Well worth the read, you will be amazed at the combination of factors which even allowed this story to be told, marvel at the forgiveness lived out by Yanka and Alberto, and appreciate the lessons we can quietly inherit from our parents and grandparents.
