25.01.2022 Uranium: Unsafe, unwanted and unnecessary. There is a push to weaken national environmental protections. Uranium mining has been plagued with leaks, spills and accidents putting the environment, workers and communities at risk. We need stronger environmental protections not a weakening of our national laws. Watch, read, share. https://dont-nuke-the-climate.org.au/uranium-mining/

23.01.2022 please take a minute to send a letter to the Senate Environment Committee to defend aginst the further weakening of our already weak national environmental laws.

23.01.2022 BHP, soon to be Australia's sole producer of uranium, is allowed to increase their carbon emissions without penalty. Their combined emissions allowance (for 6 facilities including Olympic Dam uranium mine) has risen by 753,099 tonnes a year. https://www.theguardian.com//no-purpose-to-coalitions-clim

23.01.2022 New research shows a 20 year plan to reach between 70 -94% renewable energy by 2040. There is just no need for nuclear which on average take 20 years to build - often with cost blow outs and delays. We don't have time to waste on nuclear.

22.01.2022 The International Energy Agency Energy Outlook 2020 report for the first time pegs solar as the king of future energy markets, and after two decades reports on nuclear and reports on its significant decline. Take a look at some key figures.

22.01.2022 Last week the World Nuclear Industry Status Report was released last week with another detailed review of the sector. Here are some highlights but for the full report head to https://www.worldnuclearreport.org/ and for all of their past reports. Follow them to stay up to date.

21.01.2022 Ageing nuclear reactors mean that the industry will struggle to maintain status quo in coming years. Nuclear is no solution to climate change, it takes too long to develop, is too expensive, plagued with cost over runs and delays... and that's before you think about the risks, community opposition, and long term intractable problems like waste and weapons. #DontNukeTheClimate #WNIRS #renewablenotradioative #nuclearpower #nukes #climatechange

17.01.2022 Federal Liberal gov to transfer Environmental Approval of uranium mining over to States & Territories, using inadequate ARPANSA Codes as a ‘National Standard’, fails the public interest / pub test...

17.01.2022 fast tracked uranium mines is a shocking precedent, as our environmental laws are under review - beware the push for both nuclear power and removing important protections for uranium mines. Check out this interview with A/Prof Gavin Mudd from RMIT university.

17.01.2022 Congratulations to these powerful and resilient women who fought and won to protect their country from a radioactive waste dump

13.01.2022 A faint woosh? or a dying breath?

13.01.2022 The Guardian reports Albanese says Labor will not support domestic nuclear power. The Morrison government has flagged examining emerging nuclear technologies as part of Australia’s energy mix in the future in a new discussion paper kicking off the process of developing its much-vaunted technology investment roadmap. follow the link to see more media headlines on the nuclear power debate in Australia.

13.01.2022 Advanced nuclear technology is often promoted as dealing with the problems of traditional nuclear reactors. Do these reactors really displace fossil fuels, can it consume waste and can it stop the production of nuclear weapons? No but find out why here... https://dont-nuke-the-climate.org.au/new-nuclear-technology/

13.01.2022 Some great myth busting on nuclear power thanks Friends of the Earth

12.01.2022 A snapshot of the EPBC Review interim reports recommendations on nuclear issues....

11.01.2022 Find out about the mining interests behind the most recent push to lift the ban on nuclear power in Australia. #nuclearpower #climatechange #uranium #renewablenotradioactive #dontnuketheclimate

10.01.2022 Today the Federal Minister for Energy Angus Taylor released an energy roadmap. Not only does the roadmap include an unfortunate watching brief on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) it locks in no new emissions targets and doubles down on supporting and funding fossil fuels. Over 60 groups, representing millions of Australians, made a submission to the federal government calling for urgent action on climate change, supporting renewables and leaving nuclear at the door. The Minister has done the opposite.

08.01.2022 Nice one Paddy Cullen published in the West Australian. Find out more about why nuclear power is no solution to climate change here: https://dont-nuke-the-climate.org.au/myth-busting/

08.01.2022 Did you see this latest video on uranium mining - the fuel for nuclear power - and why it is unwanted, unsafe and unnecessary... Uranium mining in Australia is now limited to South Australia with mines in the NT focused on rehabilitation, new proposals in WA unable to get finance and Vic, NSW, QLD, Tas, ACT all have long standing and popular bans on uranium mining. Uranium mining is in decline, as is nuclear power. following lobbying from the Minerals Council of Australia and pr nuclear advocates - this government is trying to weaken environmental laws which would make it easier and cheaper for uranium mines to get started - get informed - stay in touch. https://dont-nuke-the-climate.org.au/uranium-mining/

08.01.2022 Today Angus Taylor is releasing an energy roadmap for Australia. In it there is a 'watching brief' on small modular nuclear reactors. Find out more about why nuclear is no energy solution for Australia...

07.01.2022 A Labor Senator, the Greens and Independent Rex Patrick have all made dissenting reports to the proposed amendments to the National Radioactive Waste Management Act which would name Kimba as the site for a national nuclear waste dump - a move that seeks to undermine legal opportunities to block the dump which has excluded Barngarla Traditional owners from having a say over the dump.

07.01.2022 The Morrison Government has agreed to an inquiry into the draft environment legislation they put forward earlier this year - which would weakening an already weak system. For uranium mines this would mean fast tracked assessments and removing an important layer of scrutiny. Have your today - follow the link to find out more and send a submission.

06.01.2022 Check out the DNTC website for links and details on the EPBC Review report... the report makes no recommendation to lift the prohibition on nuclear power and recommends that the federal government maintains powers to intervene in uranium mining and uranium remains a "matter of national environmental signficance." WE remain cautious of suggestions to further devolve assessment powers to states and territories - a process that has seen the significant weakening of standards at uranium mines. https://dont-nuke-the-climate.org.au/environmental-laws-re/

01.01.2022 REN21 is a global network from science, academia, governments, NGOs and industry. They have released their annual Renewables Global Status Report. The report finds that the growth of renewables (including hydro) amounted to a record 201 gigawatts (GW) in 2019. The report states: For the fifth year in a row, net additions of renewable power generation capacity clearly outpaced net installations of fossil fuel and nuclear power capacity combined. In most countries, producing electricity from wind and solar PV is now more cost effective than generating it from new coal-fired power plants. These cost declines have led to record-low bids in tendering processes, which became even more common during the year.
