21.01.2022 We have one last chance to stop the Port Authority of NSW turning Glebe Island into a noisy nightmare! The planned industrialisation of Glebe Island will see an influx of large, noisy cargo ships to the area. The Port Authority of NSW wants to allow cargo ships to come and go at any hour of the day or night and run their engines 24/7, almost every day and night of the year. For local residents, that will mean being awoken at all hours of the night and living with our doors an...d windows permanently closed. For Sydneysiders, our beautiful harbourfront will be spoiled by a noisy and ugly eyesore. We can't let them get away with it. There’s one simple thing you can do to help. Write a letter. Your letter is important. If more than 50 letters are received, the objections take on much more significance with politicians and government departments. Visit the link to find out the details of who to send your letter to and what to include. Your letter can make a real difference. 20.01.2022 Last night around 10pm the cruise ship Artania was moved to Glebe Island berths 1 and 2 from the Overseas Passenger Terminal where it had been for the past 5 or 6 nights. The ship was running its engine, all lights blazing, making an incredible amount of noise which kept residents awake. There are no passengers on the ship - why run the engines and have the lights on all night? At a minimum the ship should turn off all lights and slow its engines and generators to a minimu...m so residents can sleep. We urge any local residents who were also disturbed by the noise last night to make a complaint by calling the Port Authority complaint line on 02 9296 4962.

11.01.2022 It would be a terrible waste for Glebe Island to become an ugly and noisy eyesore. Any development on Glebe Island must be reasonable, thoughtful and unintrusive. Noise pollution must be kept at a minimum to allow Sydneysiders and tourists alike to enjoy Sydney's vibrant Bays Precinct. This is why we are calling for four actions: 1. A curfew on ships arriving and departing Glebe Island between 9pm and 7am to reduce noise pollution... 2. A curfew on ships moored at berth 1 and 2 at Glebe Island running their engines between 9pm and 7am so nearby residents can get uninterrupted sleep 3. The Multi User Facility must not become an unsightly steel or concrete shed, the community must have input into the design 4. If the Hanson Concrete Plant goes ahead it must not be an eyesore. A wall of shipping containers simply doesn't cut it We are also still fighting to prevent the Hanson Concrete Batching Plant project from being approved. Hanson’s claim that the project would not cause any significant environmental impacts is absurd. In a recent letter to Planning Minister Rob Stokes MP, we reiterated our strong opposition to the project and assessed the "Response to Submissions". Glebe Island must not become a noisy and ugly eyesore. Join us in the fight to protect Glebe Island.

07.01.2022 A picture is worth a thousand words. Here’s what Glebe Island will look like if the proposed Hanson Concrete Batching Plant is approved. These pictures are from Hanson’s own Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment. What a complete waste of Sydney’s world renowned harbourfront. ... 03.01.2022 The Port Authority of NSW wants permission to be as noisy on Glebe Island as they like, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, almost every day and night of the year. They don’t care that for local residents, that will mean being awoken at all hours of the night and living with our doors and windows permanently closed. The suggested noise limits in their draft noise policy are unacceptable. There was no independent assessment undertaken, the methodology was flawed, and the proposed ...noise policy is designed to allow for higher effective noise limits. We can't let them get away with it. Make sure to submit your feedback on the Port Authority of NSW's draft noise policy by the deadline of 10 August.
