25.01.2022 Good Morning to the Donvale Cricket Club and our wide spread Donvale Community, Our thoughts and prayers are with one of our past players and Junior Coach Davi...d Gallacher and his wife Nicole Gallacher after Nicole suffered major health issues. The sad details of David and Nicole’s journey over the past months have been detailed by David and we would encourage our community to get behind this young couple by reading their story and by contributing to this GoFundMe campaign, https://www.gofundme.com/f/dave-and-nicole-gallacher. Even a small donation could help Derryn Ling reach their fundraising goal. And if you can't make a donation, it would be great if you could share the fundraiser to help spread the word. On behalf of the Donvale community we are hoping and praying for a complete miraculous recovery for Nicole.

14.01.2022 Following the success of the December 19 program Donvale and Powerplay are offering a new program in January 2020. Testimonial from Will. On the 18th and 19th o...f December I attended the Power Play Sports Australia cricket holiday program at Donvale Sports Club coached by Saliya Ahangama and Asanka Gurusinha. Then with Kaushal Silva as an excellent addition to the program on the second day, given that he is such a great cricketer in the modern game. I found it a great experience having Saliya and Asanka there to share their knowledge and experience, Kaushal was also great for us to ask questions and get tips from a current player to help my cricket. On the first day we had a net session and had our bowling and batting videoed and analysed. We then had the opportunity to go out into the nets and fix what we had discovered about our batting and bowling. On the second day we had a short but intense fielding session run by Kaushal who showed us how to pick up the ball in an athletic position and stay in that position to then throw the ball to whichever end of the wicket in a runout chance and many more things. We then headed into the nets where we worked on those changes we learnt the previous day. Kaushal spent time with us individually in a brief but informative and effective nets session where we worked out areas we could work on for a short while with him. After that we all had a chance to bat with a partner on a centre wicket in a game scenario to finish off the activities outside. We then went inside where we all said a couple of things we learned about ourselves and got better throughout the two days. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience that was very successful. Will.

Lionel served as President of the Donvale Cricket Club from 2010 until 2017 and then as President of the Donvale Sports Club from 2017 until his sad passing today, the 29th of December 2020.... Lionel served his community well, as Mayor of the City of Manningham three times and also as a Councillor. In 2018, Lionel was awarded an OAM for his service to the community. Lionel Allemand OAM was also awarded with Life Membership of the Donvale Cricket Club in 2018 and has continued on his faithful service for our club up until today’s sad passing. Lionel played football with Fitzroy reserves and Under 19s at the age of 17 before a serious knee injury ended his time at Fitzroy. When he returned to football after 12 months out with his injury, Lionel played with Bentleigh in the Federal League. He then played in the VFA with Camberwell being coached by former Hawthorn player Colin Campbell. Lionel later served Murrumbeena in the South East Suburban League as Captain and Coach. He also played with Seymour in the Waranga North East League, Country Colleges in the VAFA and St Kilda City in the Southern League, which included another stint as Captain Coach. He returned to play with Murrumbeena before finally retiring as a player. Lionel later coached Park Orchards JFC at Under 13, 15, and 17 levels. He also played and coached the Police Force team in mid-week games and took on the role of President of the Mid-Week League. Lionel is still a serving member of the Fitzroy/Brisbane Bears Past Players Committee and through his valued contribution and long serving support has been made a life member of that organisation. The Donvale Sporting Community have lost a mate, a true friend and one of nature’s gentlemen. Lionel will be sadly missed by his wife Mary Lou, his 10 children and all who have had the pleasure of knowing him.
