19.01.2022 Summer is here and we know you want to keep your pets cool and safe all summer long - here are 3 things you should avoid when trying to keep your pets cool! Avoid shaving double-coated dogs. You may think it will be much more comfortable for your pup to be shaved in Summer, however for double coated dogs this can actually be quite uncomfortable! Double coated dogs like Huskies, Collies, Labradors, Beagles, Golden Retrievers and Corgis actually use their coat to regulate ...their temperature and it will naturally shed during summer anyway. Avoid walking your dogs during the hottest part of the day (between 8am and 8pm), sunrise and sunset are the safest times to walk your pup in Summer. If your cat is showing signs of heatstroke, do not dunk them in water this will instead make them more stressed. Instead, try using a wet cloth to dampen the fur or keep a fan on for them. If your pet is showing signs of heatstroke we recommend giving us a call on (03) 9842 5330 to book them in for a check-up asap!

02.01.2022 Does your furry-friend get scared when firework season comes around? While this amazing tradition is exciting for us humans, it can be terrifying and even dangerous for our beloved pups! Here are three tips to keeping your animals feeling safe and secure this firework season! 1) Planning on seeing the fireworks up-close this year? Leave your pet at-home for this one. Animals are sensitive to loud noises, flashing lights and strong smells. It's best to leave them at home, ...preferably with a radio or TV turned on to soften any jarring noises. 2) Make sure your furry-friend has an ID tag and collar! Some pets are so scared by fireworks that they resort to breaking through windows and dog screens to escape the noise. Often this leaves them lost and disoriented. Make sure you protect them with an ID tag and microchip if possible. 3) Give treats and comfort your pet when the fireworks start. Hopefully they will eventually associate this loud noise to a positive experience instead of a scary one.
