13.01.2022 Hemp vs Cotton! Besides the wonderful healing properties of hemp for animals, it is also a widely regarded crop for fibre production. What are the differences between hemp and cotton as a fibre source? Here are some facts about the two. Hemp yields on average, twice as much fibre per acre as cotton! That means that to yield the same amount of fibre, a cotton crop needs twice as much land.... Hemp uses far less water. To produce 1kg of cotton fibre, there is a need for almost 10L of water! For the same amount of hemp, average water consumption is just a little over 2 litres. Cotton crops need regular treatment with pesticides and herbicides to ensure they stay healthy and get a high yield. These pesticides can also leach into the soil and water surrounding the crop. Hemp is a natural deterrent to pests, and needs no chemical assistance to grow! A hemp crop can also actually draw toxins from the soil, leacing a cleaner, more healthy environment than when it was planted! Hemp fibres have been shown to be up to 4 times as strong as cotton, with higher insulation properties too. What a durable plant!

06.01.2022 At Doonan Feed Co HQ, we have quite the little collection of creatures ourselves. Some big, some small, some feathered, some furry. We breed heritage chickens and are starting our own little venture into mini milking goats! We love having our own hemp products to feed our ever growing farm, and we love having different projects going on! Pictured here is Darrell, our Nigerian Dwarf buck and the sire of our future mini milking herd! Protein is exceptionally important in dairy ...animals, so our little herd of goats get lots of yummy hemp seed meal with their food. I say they’re my test subjects when it comes to new products, but really I’m just a mad goat lady and absolutely love my goaties If you had to describe yourself as a Mad _____ Man/Woman, what would fill in the blanks?

06.01.2022 WHY FEED HEMP TO HORSES? Our Hemp Seed Meal is a fantastic addition to the diet of your horse. It provides many wonderful benefits, and is a natural health boost for our favourite equine partners. Here are some benefits of feeding hemp to horses! ... Fibre: Fibre is the main source of energy for horses. Horses are hindgut fermenters - that is, the bacteria in their hindgut is what digests most of their food. Fibre that is broken down and digested in the hindgut creates energy for the horse! Protein: Hemp has a high protein content, and is a benefit for many different reasons. Protein is essential for growth and development, for skin, coat and hoof condition, for lactation in breeding mares, and for repair and development of muscle tissue. Essential Fatty Acids (Omegas): Thanks to the properties of one of the Omega-6 fatty acids - Gamma Linolenic Acid, that produces anti-inflammatory prostaglandins in the body - hemp seeds are highly anti-inflammatory. These are highly beneficial for horses with conditions such as arthritis, laminitis, digestive issues or skin conditions. You can find our full range of premium Equine Hemp products at www.doonanfeedco.com.au
