23.01.2022 The weather has been perfect for cooking and creating in our new mud kitchens! Mud kitchens are exciting, messy, creative areas to play. The learning potential from mud kitchens is immense due to their creative nature. Children experience sensory, emotional and imaginative play as well as developing maths, science and speaking skills.

23.01.2022 Today we were visited by Miss Dina for a special ballet incursion as a part of our vocational care program. Miss Dina introduced herself and asked the children to sit in a circle on laminated pictures of rainbows, butterflies and shells. The children sat down and began to flex their toes forwards and backwards. Miss Dina taught us an excellent song while we were doing so and the children loved it. Miss Dina also taught us different positions to hold our arms and legs in just... like ballerinas and ballet dancers. The children were then given some beautiful material to wave around and dance with. Miss Dina explained that we needed to dance like we were underwater and wave this fabric just like the waves in the ocean. The Children all twirled and danced, spun and leaped with one another, all the while listening very carefully to Miss Dina. To complete our session the Children had to ‘walk the plank’. The children used their tippie toes to balance along the plank and all showed their new dance moves once they jumped from the plank and joined the other Children in the ocean.

17.01.2022 Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs I'd like to say a big thank you to Miss Emily who has brought this sustainability project into Dooral ELC. This has been fantastic for the children to have the opportunity to raise awareness of the extended community and promote their understanding of becoming socially responsible and show the respect for the environment. Through a series of learning experiences, children can develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an un...derstanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation. A great part of our morning was getting to know Evie from Annangrove PS. She has kindly dropped off over 7000 bread tags for us to add to our Dooral collection. The children sat and listened as she told us how she asked local cafes to help. Her school even made it a competition as to which class could collect the most. This was a fantastic way to connect the children with people from their community as well as the wider community. We have a few Dooral families with direct connections to South Africa. Again we would like to thank all of the families that have been helping and bringing in bread tags.

15.01.2022 Have we gone through Covid-19 before the end of June 2020? Yes. Will it come back again? Nobody knows. But we know one thing: in front of pandemic, people need to unite, stay positive, and take responsibility. Dooral ELC has been so proud to get through this special stage successfully with the help of our Australia Government and the Education Department, trying to support all the essential workers and all other important workers of our centre’s families. Dooral educators h...ave been supporting each other, encouraging each other and caring for each other more than any other time as we all know we have not only educational responsibility, but also social responsibility. The tacit understanding among Dooral educators leads the team to a stronger cohesion after this challenging time. We know we have just gone through a very hard time, but we are all so proud! In early March, Dooral ELC coordinated successfully by sourcing 8,000 facial masks from oversea and donated to Rotary Club of Dural. We would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to AWA-Australia Wenzhou Association for your kind donation. We would also like to say THANK YOU to Dural Rotarians. Your actively working with the Minister, finding the most needed places to send the resources and delivering them from one location to another by your own transportation, has set a great role model for the local community. So, thank you! Last, but not the least, Dooral Children have expressed their appreciation to the essential workers in our community through their art work and dramatic play. Hope you like our THANK YOU message on the Dooral fence, created by our Dooral educators and children. THANK YOU, ESSENTIAL WORKERS! Please remember to look after yourself and your family when your working so hard for the people in the community, and for the country! We thank you!

14.01.2022 On Friday 17th July 2020, the educators and children at Dooral wore pajamas to help raise vital funds for the Pyjama Foundation. This foundation helps to support some of Australia’s most disadvantaged children, by providing each foster child with a ‘Pyjama Angel’. With our ‘Camp Out’ in the back yard, we roasted marshmallow, hotdogs, corn and sweet potato. ... The big Dooral family successfully raised $550 for the Pyjama Foundation! We would like to say THANK YOU to all the families who have supported this experience in many different ways. THANKS also goes to all our lovely, creative, passionate and responsible educators. Camping helps children to develop a sense of adventure. Camping gives children the freedom to explore, boosting creativity and brings children closer to nature. It has been so lovely to see Dooral children discuss, explore, and to have so much fun with camping out in our backyard. While a fire pit is something you wouldn’t normally expect to find in an early childhood centre, lots of new Australian researches suggest that children should be, exposed to different "risks" within child care, including open flames, hammers and saws, will result in children developing more confidence, safety awareness and better risk assessment skills. Dooral educators have been trying every effort to let the children experience the Risks and ensure they are safe and well supervised in the meantime. We believe those experiences will help the children develop their own risk assessment skills as they engaged in risky play. The educators’ "Intentional teaching not only involves giving physical and verbal support to the children, but also engaging children in co-problem solving and higher-level involvement in making decisions themselves. We hope all these risk play experiences help the children to make their own safety judgments and develop competence when approaching risk.

11.01.2022 Key Word Signing Incursion This morning we had the pleasure of welcoming Miss Jane from All Areas Speech Pathology into our centre. The Educators have had the pleasure of working with Jane previously to engage in professional development courses to improve our Key Word Sign Language skills. In the Early Years, Educators work with children to achieve 5 learning outcomes to ensure children develop holistically. Outcome 5, encourages children to develop effective communication ...skills. This morning Jane worked within each room to educate the teachers and children about useful signs to help with communication. Key Word Signing can be used in conjunction with verbal language to communicate. In the Turtle Room Miss Jane sat with the children who were listening to a shark story. She taught us the sign for ‘book’, ‘baby’ and ‘shark’. During morning tea Miss Jane taught us many useful signs for meals times including, sit, please, thank you, more, drink, help and yummy! It was very interesting to see how quickly the Turtles picked up the signs and repeated them. Miss Jane spent a lot of time with the Penguins and was very impressed with the children’s ability to sign ‘Hello, how are you today?’ as well as lots of emotions and colours. Miss Jane noticed some conflict amongst the children and was quick to step in showing the Penguins how to use Key Word Sign to say ‘sharing’. We also learnt how to say ‘Thank you’, ‘Please’ and ‘I would like’. These words are continuously used throughout our days here at Dooral and we are looking forward to embedding these Key Word Signing into our learning program. In the Kangaroo Room the children continued to learn how to use their hands and their manners. As many of the children are also transitioning to school next year we also learnt the words for ‘school’, ‘bag’, ‘drink bottle’ as well as how to finger spell our names. Thank you to Miss Jane and the whole team at ‘All Areas Speech Pathology’ for such a fun and engaging morning. We can’t wait for your next visits which are coming in the next couple of weeks.

05.01.2022 Next week from Monday 10th - Friday 14th August we will be raising awareness and funds for Red Nose Day by dressing in red and/or dressing silly for a serious cause! On Friday the 14th the children will participate in a Red nose disco to officially celebrate the day. Every dollar raised on Red Nose Day helps stop little lives being cut short and ensures every grieving family gets the support they need.... In Australia, nine children still die suddenly and unexpectedly every day. That’s more than 3,000 babies and young children every year more than double the national road toll. We are still losing them to stillbirth, SIDS, and fatal sleeping accidents. Nine little lives lost every single day. So while incredible gains have been made to reduce sudden infant deaths since the first Red Nose Day in 1988, the fight must continue. And we still need your help... https://rnd2020childcare.everydayhero.com/au/dooral-elc

03.01.2022 This week we celebrated Book Week! The children and educators here at Dooral dressed up each and every day! This year’s theme was ‘Curious Creatures and Wild Minds’. Along with dressing up the children also brought in books to match their outfits! There’s plenty of research out there showing just how reading leads to improved language skills. To top off the week we had Louise Pocock the author of ‘What Job Do You Do’ read her beautiful book and also a few poems she had writt...en about animals, linking to this years Book Week theme ‘Curious Creatures and Wild Minds’. The children all sat beautifully and expressed interest in Louise, introducing themselves, asking questions and showing off their costumes. Thank you for all the families who have bought books during this week. I have been receiving great feedback for the enjoyable book purchasing experience at Dooral. The most important things are both the Dooral educators and the children had lots of fun and read lots of books. Let our children’s imaginations go wild!!!

02.01.2022 Today for National Simultaneous Day we read ‘Whitney and Britney the Chicken Divas’ by Lucinda Gifford. National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 20th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes.
