25.01.2022 Week 9 newsletter is available on our website below. https://dorrigo-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/

24.01.2022 Congratulations to the Connell family. Two super excited girls today.

24.01.2022 Sounds in Science Last week as part of our Sound unit in Science, K/1 students were very excited to create musical instruments that they had carefully designed the previous lesson. We used lots of recycled materials and were only allowed to use things that were on our plan. Students worked well to solve problems when they were encountered. A few had to make modifications to their designs, but in the end all students successfully created a fully functioning instrument that could be played by striking, plucking or shaking.

24.01.2022 Can you help? Our school is a collection point for this great initiative. You can contribute by sending in bread tags to the school. These tags will be used to raise funds for the Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs program which provides wheelchairs for disadvantaged people. It takes about 250kg of tags to make one standard wheelchair.

23.01.2022 We're seeking feedback from all parents. Please click on the link below to complete the short survey. The parent survey helps to clarify and strengthen the important relationship between parents and school. The survey is designed to measure, assess and report insights at the school and system levels. The focus of this NSW survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/dorrigo1

23.01.2022 National Science Week Homework Task All students This week is National Science Week. The theme is 'Deep Blue- Innovations for our Future Oceans'. We are inviting all students to participate in a homework task by asking them to develop an idea to support healthy oceans. Some possible ideas could include, but are not limited to:... - Making an ocean creature from recycled materials - Designing a poster, drawing or artwork in support of healthy oceans - Writing a song or story about caring for the ocean - Designing an invention which will help support healthy oeans. Projects should be sent into school on Friday ready for a sharing session that day. We look forward to seeing some of your ideas. A virtual display will be made available on our school Facebook page for parents and friends to enjoy. https://www.scienceweek.net.au/

23.01.2022 THANK YOU! Recently we had the opportunity to go shopping at Rebel Sport for some new sporting gear at no cost to the school. Our school is part of the Rebel Community Kickbacks Program and under this program, the school can earn 5% of purchases at Rebel Coffs Harbour, as in-store credit to spend on our school sports programs. Classroom sports bags have been refreshed with new basketballs, footballs, cricket sets and wet weather games. Thank you for nominating our school to receive this great benefit.

23.01.2022 Visiting Healthy Harold by K/1 Last Tuesday afternoon, K/1 students were exceptionally eager and excited to visit Healthy Harold in the Life Education Van. When we first entered Harold’s Friend Ship our new buddy helped us to explore the qualities of a good friend and showed us how to identify the different feelings and emotions we may encounter during a friendship. Harold also taught us how to be kind to others and how to identify early warning signs if someone is not showing us healthy friendship behaviours. All students were active and engaged participants during the session and thoroughly enjoyed themselves, whilst learning some really positive strategies for developing their social skills.

22.01.2022 Did you see Harold arrive? Life Education lessons for each class this week.

20.01.2022 Today Mrs Carey kindly brought in a real life firefighting kit for students in the extension group to look at and try. Students working in Project Firestorm have been investigating fires and their impacts and are now working to develop solutions to some of the problems they have found. Some of these solutions are around what firefighters wear, so we were very grateful to get this opportunity. Thank you Mrs Carey!

12.01.2022 Stage 3 Drama/Visual Arts: Wayang is the name for these traditional Indonesian puppets or can be the name for the whole performance. There was often one artist who controlled all the puppets on rods, as well as narrating and singing. The elements of drama and productions communicate meaning in different social, cultural and historical contexts. We are learning to identify the features of drama from other contexts, including investigating traditional and contemporary drama from Asia.
