24.01.2022 Well it’s time to soar high with us early birds! It’s a particular kind of high that comes with saving money on a ticket to a great event That’s it! Early Bird Tickets are now available online: https://www.dorrigofolkbluegrass.com.au/tickets/... We’re really excited about what’s in store this year. As always we’ll have just the right mix of traditional and progressive bluegrass and old-time music as well as some wonderfully talented folk musicians. It’s our 19th festival, that’s pretty decent! Hands up if you’ve been to all 19 festivals? We hope to see lots of familiar faces and new ones too. Live music creates such a community. #dorrigofolkandbluegrassfestival #DFandBF #becauseournameistoolong #nineteenth #dorrigo #livemusic #bluegrass #oldtimey #folk #earlybirdgetstheworm #tickets

24.01.2022 The DF& BF Inc. and Bess would like to send our gratitude and appreciation to folks who tuned into our Old-Time concert on Saturday 24th. The concert will remain available on our Facebook page and also our YouTube if you’re in for finer quality viewing. Our gratitude and appreciation is just as great for the musicians who contributed to the concert. It was such a joy to give you some form of stage once again. Your music was beautiful, energetic and empowering. ... We couldn’t have put this together without @shoelacecreative who produced the concert and provided advice on presenting a virtual event. If you are able to donate, you are still able to do so on our website. Everything made goes towards paying the musicians and producers, from both the old-time and upcoming concerts. We’d like to encourage everyone to continue supporting artists of all kinds through the pandemic. The upcoming concerts are hosted by the Dorrigo House Band and are more focused on bluegrass. As the DHB are based in Victoria we are dependent on the state opening up to film. The DHB will have some amazing guests from around Australia, Scotland and the United States. We can’t wait to show you! Keep an eye out! Stay safe and hug an instrument! #dorrigofolkandbluegrassfestival #dorrigo #virtual #livemusic #acousticmusic

22.01.2022 Howdy folks, With a heavy heart we are here this morning to tell you that Flats & Sharps have made the decision to fly home to the UK earlier than planned. They’ll have one final gig at the Petersham Bowling Club, Sydney this Wednesday 18th March. We’re glad that the boys will be going home soon. This stressful time would be extremely difficult to get through without loved ones near by. ... Thank you for persevering on your Australian tour @flatsandsharps but we think it’s the right choice. There’s lots of folks here in Dorrigo who will be missing y’all so be sure to come back when the waters are calmer. To those who’d still like to be listening to Flats & Sharps this weekend make sure to purchase their new album ‘The Play’ here: https://www.flatsandsharps.net/m/new-album-available-soon-1 #flatsandsharps #cancellation #dorrigofolkandbluegrassfestival #dorrigo #bluegrass #cornwall

22.01.2022 Our final segment in The DF&BF Inc. Concert Series premieres this Saturday and we'd love to have your support. This SATURDAY 19th DECEMBER join us at 8pm AEDT for Rachel Baiman & George Jackson (US/AUS) and Jake Blount (US). Tune in on YouTube or Facebook. As a teenager, Rachel Baiman found music to be a welcome escape from worrying about global politics. I often found the constant discussion of seemingly unsolvable problems to be intense and overwhelming, and when I moved ...to Nashville to pursue music it felt like something positive, beautiful and productive that I could put into the world. Now that I’ve had some years to devote to music. George Jackson is a Nashville-based fiddle player who tours as a band leader and fiddler for hire, working with artists such as Front Country, Peter Rowan, Missy Raines and many more. Born in New Zealand, George grew up in a musical family and first heard bluegrass music around the age of 14, immediately falling in love with the style he started trying to work out how to play it from recordings and from the few mentors he could find in New Zealand. Moving to Australia as a 16-year-old, he won the Australian National Bluegrass Championship on fiddle three times and toured the country with his bluegrass band, The Company, playing many major folk festivals on the Australian circuit. Jake Blount is an award-winning banjoist, fiddler, singer and scholar based in Providence, RI. He is half of the internationally touring duo Tui, a 2020 Strathmore Artist in Residence and a board member of Bluegrass Pride. He is a 2020 recipient of the Steve Martin Banjo Prize. Although he is proficient in multiple performance styles, he specializes in the music of Black and indigenous communities in the southeastern United States, and in the regional style of Ithaca, New York. He foregrounds the experiences of queer people and people of color in his work. He has studied with modern masters of old-time music, including Bruce Molsky, Judy Hyman (of the Horse Flies), and Rhiannon Giddens and Hubby Jenkins (of the GRAMMY-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops). We’d like to thank everyone who has donated so far. If you are new and tuning in to this last segment please consider donating, just follow the link below. Please head to our YouTube page to watch the previous segments. The minimum suggested donation per Guest Concert is: $10 AUD. Donations: https://www.dorrigofolkbluegrass.com.au All donations will go towards paying the musicians and producers involved in the DF&BF Inc. Concert Series.

21.01.2022 We’re super stoked to have these videos to look back on, reminding us what a privilege it is to have music in our lives. You are listening to the Jacob Jolliff Band performing at the 18th Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival 2019. Jacob is joined by Alex Hargreaves, Myles Sloniker and Ross Martin. This was so much fun and such an honour to have the JJB here in Dorrigo! Big cheers to Shoelace Creative for the audio and visual content that’s now helping us pull through. ... Live sound by Chris Rogers and his team from Soundtrap Music Centre. We hope y’all are doing alright! Love, light and music to everyone! 20.01.2022 Dear friends, The festival would have kicked off earlier tonight with a Welcome to Country by local aboriginal elders followed by one of the festival favourites, the Hoe-Down. We sure are missing everyone; volunteers, patrons, performers, sound crew, stall vendors. You’ve been so wonderful to us over the 18 years of the Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival. ... As usual we are already thinking about next years festival and we’re hoping that we’ll be gathering once more at the Dorrigo Showgrounds with that buzz of excitement in the air. It’s a mixture of sweet spring and music. We were feeling a little sad but as usual Festival Mascot Bess came to the rescue with some of Bridget’s flowers! It’s almost customary for Bess to be hanging out with the volunteers making sure we’re all smiling. On Friday afternoons, before the festivities begin, she’ll head home to keep Ezra company. Ezra’s a little sad too, she’d usually have lots of guests with instruments to hang out with. We’ve got a concert going LIVE tomorrow (Saturday) at 7pm AEDT. We’d love to have you hang out with us for it, but it will be available afterwards if you can’t make it. Stay safe and keep in touch with your musician buddies! #dorrigofolkandbluegrassfestival #dorrigo #festivalmascot #homegrownflowers

19.01.2022 Very sad to hear that Blue Mountains Music Festival has cancelled their event this weekend. We hope that the festival can recover from this and remain a strong part of the Australian festival scene. We acknowledge that this must’ve been a tough last minute decision and hope that all musicians and attendees are safe.

19.01.2022 On Saturday 23rd May, Dan Parsons and Tracy McNeil would have been doing a lovely gig at the Megan Hall. Megan Hall gigs are intimate and bear great memories. We’d have been starting off gathering around the trestle table sharing a pot luck dinner, to which we’d all have contributed something. We’d chat, laugh and appreciate what we were eating and the music that was about to start. Then local legend Bill would take to the piano and tinkle out some old favourites, always st...arting with ‘the hills are alive with the sound of music’. And they would be!! Then Dan & Tracy would take to the stage and warm our hearts and put a smile on our dials! Unfortunately, we can’t celebrate a Megan Hall gig as we usually would so please join us on our FACEBOOK page at 6PM on SATURDAY 23RD MAY where the very kind and talented @danieljamesparsons and @tracymcneilandthegoodlife will still play their hearts out for us. Suggested donation of $20 to PayPal.Me/danieljamesparsons Thanks so much Dan & Tracy!! #dorrigofolkandbluegrassfestival #meganhall #danparsons #tracymcneil #livestream

Caleb Klauder and Reeb Willms hail from the Great Pacific Northwest. When these tw...o sing to us, their honest incantations leave a swirling cloud of magical sparkle smoke ‘round our hearts, and we can spin off into the night, spell-bound and smiling. Caleb Klauder’s rowdy, dynamic mandolin playing, and Reeb Willms’ unwavering guitar style weave a fabric around their songs and harmonies that proves joyous, timeless, and resilient. 19.01.2022 Hey all, We’re really looking forward to presenting Luke Plumb & The Circuit this Saturday night at the Megan Hall. You know the drill; bring a plate of savoury or sweet food for a shared dinner around the trestle table at 6:30pm! Music from 7pm! BYO toilet paper (joking!) ... Let’s get together and remember what’s good in life! Award winning producer, world renowned mandolinist Luke Plumb, has drawn together an ensemble from the cream of Australia’s acoustic musicians to form a new music melding folk, ethnic traditions, rock and jazz. The Circuit consists of a searing frontline of his mandolin and the prodigious talents of jazz trumpeter Eamon McNelis, and is driven by a powerhouse rhythm section from Kate Burke (Guitar) and Robyn Martin (Double Bass). This is music that is new while being drawn from traditions, improvisatory while working in a framework of musically intricate composition. Enough imagination and innovation to inspire a new generation folk music of breathtaking originality. Bruce Elder The Age/SMH Don’t forget that if you come to all 3 of our March gigs then you go in the running for a Full Weekend Ticket for the Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass Festival 2020!! #dorrigofolkandbluegrassfestival #meganhall

16.01.2022 Reposting from @georgefiddle reposting from @clawhammerist!! The #dorrigochallenge just won’t go away and we LOVE that!! It’s amazing that so many people are still learning this sweet tune and you can hear them all at @georgefiddle or #dorrigochallenge woohoo!! #hugyourinstrument while you can’t hug your friends and learn a new tune! ... #dorrigo #dorrigofolkandbluegrassfestival #livemusic #adamhurt #georgejackson This has got to be one of the most exciting #dorrigochallenge posts I’ve had the pleasure of passing on! It’s Adam Hurt! (Yes *the* Adam Hurt) playing my tune Thanks Adam. I could listen to this all day. Repost from @clawhammerist I am using the #coronavirus #socialisolation period as an opportunity to catch up on various activities, such as the #dorrigochallenge (hopefully tune composer @georgefiddle will not mind my very tardy submission). As usual, I am playing my favorite @enochbanjos instrument, currently strung with strings from the new @daddarioandco XT line. You may ask, What does this have to do with Saint Patrick’s Day? Well, banjos have been curiously associated with frogs since long before Kermit and The Rainbow Connection. Frogs are sometimes green. I happen to be wearing green. The banjo ties it all together, right? #clawhammerbanjo #banjo #oldtimemusic #fiddle #dropthumbsnotbombs #enochbanjos #daddariostrings #clawhammerist See more

16.01.2022 We’ve been thinking about 2020 and if it will bring the 19th Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival. We’re still unsure of the answer so for now we’ll post some dodgy but wonderful videos off our phones from past festivals. Here’s the @andrewcollinstriomusic at the 18th Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival 2019. How’s that mandocello? #andrewcollinstrio #dorrigofolkandbluegrassfestival #dorrigo #livemusic

15.01.2022 There’s a lot of amazing music being made during this crazy crazy time. We’re sad we can’t all be in the same place enjoying this new music live. But we can still show our support. 13.01.2022 Good morning friends, we had a chat to Luke yesterday and decided that it’s best to cancel our gig with Luke Plumb & The Circuit. Please share the news. 10.01.2022 #theshowmustbepaused There’s been a lot of passionate well-worded posts lately on this issue and we feel we don’t have the words to add much to what’s already been said. But we can’t be silent. We’d like to acknowledge the coloured and indigenous peoples who’ve given so much to this world. Music and art, heart and soul. The world has also taken much from them and it’s time we stand in solidarity to show our respect and gratefulness to people of colour. It is too long overdue. We stand for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery and the countless other coloured people who have been murdered. We stand for the murders and injustice towards coloured people here in our own country. It has to change and we should all take on board how we can change ourselves and our behaviour for the better. Let’s listen, and hear.

09.01.2022 Hello friends, We must apologise for our silence. It’s been a difficult few weeks as worldwide festivals, gig venues, musicians, sound technicians and many other music industry related work is hit hard. We choose to look at this time in isolation as inspiration for creation when we are not so busy with the day to day bustle of life. We need to use this time carefully and respect it; treat it and others with care so we can recover with strength, gratitude and better ways of ...moving forward. We hope that music is a bright light in your isolation, we’d surely be feeling poor without it right now. We’d like to reassure our patrons, artists, stall vendors, volunteers and supporters that it’s our priority to run the 19th DF&BF 2020. This is of course with hopes that the world has settled and we are once again ready to gather with our friends and loved ones close, and make merry listening to live music in the beautiful hills and fresh air of Dorrigo. We commit to updating you as often as possible in this tumultuous time. Performer Applications will remain open until the 20th May. Stall and Volunteer applications will open at a later date. Earlier in March we opened ticket sales for the 19th Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival 23rd-25th October 2020. We have made the decision to temporarily take ticket sales down until we have the information needed to give you a definite answer about the running of the festival. To anyone who had already purchased a ticket, please know that your ticket will be valid should the festival go ahead and fully refunded if cancellation is necessary (we really hope that doesn’t happen). Picture 1 is Director, Bridget Rees, up early in her garden on the Saturday morning of last years festival. That’s what she has been doing in isolation, tending to her garden and embracing her natural surroundings. Picture 2 is Festival mascot Bess amongst fairy lights ready to be installed last year. We hope these lights shine brightly too come October. Take care of yourself and others. Do not lose faith. We will be together soon in the good company of live music. #dorrigofolkandbluegrassfestival #dorrigo #isolationcreation #livemusic

09.01.2022 The warmer weather has really been hanging on in Dorrigo, warding off the cold and letting the flowers, positive thoughts and hopes linger just a little longer. But, it is with heavy hearts The DF&BF Inc Committee, like many other festivals and events, has made the tough decision to cancel this year’s 19th Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass Festival and the 4th Dorrigo Old-Time Music School, scheduled for late October 2020. The impact of COVID-19 is much more widespread and long-ter...m than anyone could have anticipated, so please forgive us as we take the time to process the extent of the damage on us, the music industry and, well, everything. Industry-wide people are without work; fellow festivals have been forced to cancel, venues are shutting their doors. This all means we are unable to support the musicians, who would normally be on tour, which covers their costs and supports them, and this in turn of course affects other industry roles such as sound technicians, stall vendors and media and infrastructure crew. A lot of people have been in this same position in the last 2 to 3 months, and we have been saddened to watch this happening. We still can’t find the words to describe how we are all feeling, but we believe we have to stand in solidarity. It's a long and unknown road forward, which can be frightening, but knowing that we will eventually gather again amongst the open arms of music and other creative arts is enough to see us through. We will always be dedicated to running the Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival with its well-known quality and integrity, but because of the incredible current circumstances this year, we will instead be focusing our energies on providing a different kind of support for the music industry. We are going to persevere with making music to honour the Festival weekend, and while we can’t say exactly how that is going to work at the moment, we’ll let you know as soon as possible because we want you to be there with us. If you are reading or hearing this, you are in one way or another involved in this music community. Musicians, event organisers, volunteers, stall holders, sound technicians, media crew, patrons and any other contributors/supporters; we love and appreciate you all. We look forward to embracing you in our festival family again soon. Stringmania welcomes people from all walks of life, ages and cultural backgrounds. They are committed to creating a safe, inclusive space and experience for all, and strive to continue to increase access to and diversity within the camp, as a reflection of our ethos and vision for a rich, supportive and vibrant folk and world music community in Australia. 01.01.2022 A yellow bunch as it’s a happy colour and that’s how we hope you feel heading into 2021. We hope that you’re all able to find ways of being with friends and loved ones. It’s important to remember that even with a new year we’ll have some challenges of 2020 coming with us, but let’s walk forward together. COVID-19 is still running its course and we must each do our bit to keep others safe. We must continue doing the good and important things we had the humble time to remembe...r this year. Things like supporting local small businesses, saying g’day to neighbours, growing our own food, baking our own bread, listening to MORE music, PLAYING music, listening to the morning songbirds, reaching out, giving to those less fortunate, supporting creative arts... the things that remind us of our humanity, what will you be bringing with you? While 2020 was a different but good year for many of us, we must remember that there are a lot of people without a home/safe place or a family to turn to as the world continues in its harsh way for them. It’s important that support gets to those who need it. Like most communities, the music community lost many great friends who were innovators of the genres we love so much. We cannot express how deeply the loss hits, but we are forever grateful for all they have given to this community. It’s going to take a long time for the music industry to recover but we’ll get there by supporting it from the ground up. Here’s to not rushing into the fast lane, and walking forward together in music’s all encompassing company. Take care #dorrigofolkandbluegrassfestival #hugyoulater #huganinstrument #takecare
