25.01.2022 This little guy was brought in close to death from scours, and we had to use the fridge thermometer to get a reading! Whenever I talk to clients about the importance of electrolytes in sick calves, I generally get the impression that people think that using antibiotics to treat the infection is the really important thing. It's more complicated than that. A few months ago I bought myself a blood gas analyser just for these poor critters. What you can see is just how acidic their systems are, and I've already treated this one quite aggressively!

25.01.2022 Work satisfaction is a funny thing, but being really proud of your efforts is a big part of it. A few months ago I purchased a blood gas analyser and it's so useful in emergency situations like this. It's my calf who was nearly dead yesterday morning. I took her into the surgery, ran off my blood tests, started her on IV fluids and tonight is back nursing from its mum.

24.01.2022 Found curled up in some washing, Pygmy possum, certainly a very cute time waster. Off to wires to be looked after while its tail heals.

24.01.2022 So this is what happens when you leave the bull in a bit longer than normal, because you have vibrio in your herd. This heifer must have gone in calf before being weaned last April. Thankfully no disasters, but definitely a surprise this morning.

22.01.2022 With all the disruption caused by COVID 19 it strikes me odd that the lessons learned from the 2001 FMD outbreak in the UK and Equine Influenza episode have been forgotten. Perhaps it's time to learn from history. As for me, I will still be providing veterinary care, but shall not be travelling outside of the district. I would simply ask that if clients have travelled to any centre where there has been recent cases, that they let me know when booking an appointment.

13.01.2022 As an aside, it's worth remembering that Ross river fever can also affect horses.

09.01.2022 It's a dog's life!

09.01.2022 Sometimes your clients just refuse to practice social isolation. I was having lunch and this little guy wouldn't keep away.

08.01.2022 I know it’s Monday, but you still have to get up and go to work

08.01.2022 Finishing up paring, so the extent of the abscess cavity.

07.01.2022 It's a great marvel that cows can turn grass into cheese, milkshakes, sausages, steaks. In fact all the nicest foods (apart from bacon). Jolly clever things.

07.01.2022 Aged male Border Collie found at Gordonville cutting this afternoon. Please call the surgery for details.

07.01.2022 What a week that was! Ticks are rampant at the moment and the post mortem was my calf, as is the calf getting canoeing lessons.

06.01.2022 Big surgical day at the clinic today. I had 2 specialist surgeries on, so we had Dr Tom Smith come down from Towoomba to do a dog with both knees gone, and a pup with elbow dysplasia. I must say that you really have to appreciate the skill and the amount of gear that Tom carries. I got the easy part, anaethetist for a day! It's great to be able to offer such a great service locally. By the way, the dog is under the blue drapes, and the leg is wrapped in yellow.

06.01.2022 Does anyone recognise this dog? Found on Waterfall Way, Ebor side of Deer Vale

03.01.2022 In this current climate , where many people are anxious about the fire situation, it's good to just bear this article in the back of the mind.

02.01.2022 As a strange and difficult year comes to an end, we wanted to wish you and your pets a Happy Holiday Season, Merry Christmas, and all the best in the New Year.

02.01.2022 Hi everyone, we will be reducing our hours over the festive season. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

01.01.2022 Calves over 8 weeks of age are pretty straightforward to wean successfully, and this is a proven strategy used over many years. If cows are too light to join or sell, it really is a "No brainer" option.

01.01.2022 Little Cedar, the red stumpy tailed cattle dog came in for her vaccinations today. She decided to try and help Deb with the mopping while she was visiting!
