20.01.2022 #throwback DBSC Life Member Julian Van Aalst competing in the Richard Tyrrell Trophy circa 1988. He'll be sailing again this Saturday in our annual end-of-year event . Richard Tyrrell was one of the early Laser class sailors at DBSC in the 1980s. He was an active member, who had a real presence and was very much liked by everyone. He was instrumental in building a sense of community, for example as one of the instigators of the annual Laser Sailors’ Dinner, and he showed l...eadership in fundraising activities for much-needed repairs. He continued sailing with the club until his untimely death from asthma in his 40s in 1987. In memoriam, DBSC hosts an annual race in a handicapped chase format that is named after him, and the winner’s name is inscribed each year on the perpetual Richard Tyrrell Trophy. . #lasersailing #doublebaysailingclub See more

10.01.2022 DBSC is committed to the development of Laser sailing by offering a Learn To Race program for sailors of 15 years and over with previous sailing experience. The program is open to existing Laser sailors who would like to improve their racing techniques such as starts and tactics, and those that are starting out in Lasers who would like to gain more confidence racing with a large competitive fleet. . The sessions include on- and off-water training covering rigging, boat handling, sail trim, tactics, and race course management; coached by experienced Laser sailors with representation at national and international regattas. . First and third Saturday every month from September until April. BYO boat or hire a club Laser for $30.

06.01.2022 Stage 1 of the DBSC Solar Project is complete We estimate that this size system should generate more than the club's power needs, and make it a net supplier of green electricity to the grid and the local community. Future stages will involve covering the entire roof with solar panels working towards a carbon neutral future ... DBSC would like to thank the NSW Government for their generous help towards this project, as well as the army of volunteers within the club who have assisted in making this possible.

01.01.2022 Announcing the winner of the 2020 NSW/ACT Club of the Year Award Double Bay Sailing Club Double Bay Sailing Club has seen their membership has grown nearly 50...% since 2016, representing a compound annual growth rate of 10% per annum for the last four years. This has resulted from a strategic focus on quality of racing, member engagement, and club facilities, which makes the club attractive to both existing and new members. The club has facilitated member recruitment through various programs including their newsletter, online / social media presence, conventional media editorials, Learn to Race program, very successful Women’s Regatta. The clubs aim is to be the go-to Laser-class sailing club in Australia as a volunteer club with no paid staff. DBSC has three strategic priorities: improve quality of racing, increase member engagement, and improve club facilities these enhance our retention and recruitment, and increase participation. Having implemented numerous initiatives within this strategy has increased the racing participation the average participation has increased by more than 8.4% over the last twelve months.
