25.01.2022 Huge swells attract spectators to the Gap in Albany, Western Australia. Just to give some perspective, the viewing platform is 40 meters above the ocean. Content available for licensing via Severe Weather Australia

20.01.2022 The WA storm season is finally here and Albany had a small but very active cell move over on sunset. This is looking over Princess Royal Harbour toward Little Grove and Torndirrup National Park from Albany marina. Pentax Australia #strikefinder

19.01.2022 A panoramic shot of the Stirling Range at sunset. It's no wonder I spend so much time here. The blueness is from the flora in the area. Pentax K1 with the 28-105 lens Pentax Australia

19.01.2022 I haven't been out much lately so tonight with clear skies & being winter solstice I thought it's about time to get back to some Milky Way shooting. There was some nice red airglow about as well which made for some extra interest. Pentax K1 D-FA 15-30 Pentax Australia

18.01.2022 Trying out some different editing styles with this shot as I photographed the falls in the middle of a bright sunny day (not ideal) while in Tassie for Christmas.

17.01.2022 Sunrise bolts, salt lake, a passing train & free camping :-D Had a rather adventurous couple of days chasing storms in the Goldfields. Had to wait for around 3 am for them to start to fire up where I was. Also had a visit from the local storm chaser herself Kylie Gee otherwise known as #IndigoStormPhotography (head over to her site for some awesomeness). 16.01.2022 Halls Falls in North East Tasmania. It's my last day in Tasmania so I thought I'd better post at least one photo from the journey so far. It's been a whirlwind visit visiting family at both ends of the state with a few adventures in between. From the wilds of the West Coast to the soaring mountains of the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park & the lush rain forest & the smell of the undergrowth reminded me of when I lived here & is a scent that is truly Tasmanian. 15.01.2022 "Take Off" The MilkyWay shot from the para gliders & hand gliders launching platform above Shelly Beach here in Albany, which is part of The West Cape Howe National Park. Taken just before moon rise with the Pentax K1 & the Ricoh 15-30 lens Pentax Australia

14.01.2022 Yep Bluff Knoll again, this time from the beginning of the hiking track on a cold windy night with cloud rolling through & some nice air glow around. I have a composition in mind for the area but will have to wait until my knee has fully recovered, so stay tuned ;-)

13.01.2022 It's been a quiet 12 months for Aurora activity, so with the Aurora alerts showing the likelihood of some decent activity last night I decided to head out to see if anything eventuated. The clouds were not playing fair & the South East wind that just wont stop was blowing fairly hard. I headed to the Gap once again mainly for some shelter from the wind. Once I noticed colour showing up on the camera I found this composition on the walkway to the viewing platform & stared to ...shoot hoping the clouds would disperse. A soft headlamp was used to light the foreground & this is the best shot I managed with the least amount of cloud. Cheers Dougal Pentax K1 Pentax 15-30 Leofoto Tripod See more

13.01.2022 I don't usually photograph sunrises as I like my bed to much in the mornings. But I seemed to be awake at a ridiculous hour this morning. I headed out to Little Beach in the Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve to see if anything would eventuate & I was lucky to see the sky light up all around me. Little Beach has been voted as one of the top 10 beaches in Australia & is only a short 20 minute drive from home.

12.01.2022 I don't usually post selfies in astro shots but hey what the hell :-) Taken at the Albany windfarm on a rare clear night down here. Pentax Australia

12.01.2022 Little Grove boat ramp at sunset I haven't been out for awhile so here's one I prepared earlier :-)

08.01.2022 The start of the storm season is upon us once again. Some nice structure over Bald Head in Albany WA This year I'm hoping to get up north to the Kimberly for some big wet season storms, as well as the Pilbara region and the wheat belt. Fingers crossed for an epic season this year. I may even do some live posts, but we shall see. Pentax K1 Pentax 28-105 lens... Pentax Australia See more

07.01.2022 Looking out toward Michaelmas Island in King George Sound on a stormy afternoon. It was so windy I had to park the car side on to the wind and rain so I could have some respite from being blown about all afternoon. It was fun though :-) Taken with the Pentax K1 & the 28-105 lens Pentax Australia

06.01.2022 I've decided to cut back on competitions except for a few that I enjoy. This one run by Australian Photography magazine has always been one of my favorites, (along with The International Pano Awards, Aus Geo, & The International Landscape Photographer of the Year.) So To get 2 Highly Commended Awards this year was very pleasing. P.S. I rarely post more than 1 photo at a time so I hope you enjoy them :-)

04.01.2022 Finally some storms for Albany! This shot was taken at the end of a rather long, wet & windy night. With all my batteries pretty much depleted I had just enough charge to capture this one last shot over the marina & shipping port before heading home. Not for Media Use or Article Embedding... 04.01.2022 The weekend was spent in the wheat belt of Western Australia. I have found that I am moving away from the standard Astro photography & enjoying light painting subjects at night, especially old machinery as it breaths new life into them. It takes a while to put together as this one is 8 individual shots to get the desired effect. A whole new quest to find old stuff hidden in paddocks.

03.01.2022 Albany doesn't get that many storms during summer. So when one is forecast & the modelling looks good I get a tad excited as it means I don't have to travel for hours to chase one. This is a selection of 3 from Wednesday morning. It was all quiet except for some high level cloud to cloud flashing going on & then it started to rain down with bolts all around me. These were taken at what we call the Spark Plug (aptly named) which is only 5 minutes from home & has 360 views. @P...entax K1 @Pentax 28- 105 lens @Leofoto tripod @Stikefinder lightning trigger Not for Media Use or Article Embedding Licensing available.

02.01.2022 Happy 2021 everyone. With Western Australia's storm season kicking off finally, when I saw that the Wheatbelt was in for some development, I got my gear ready for what I thought would be a 3 hour drive. So after leaving home at 11pm the 3 hour drive turned into a 5 hour drive as the roos kept interfering with my plans, I arrive with no time to kick back & find a prime vantage point as the storms kicked off like clockwork. I chased this cell for around 2 hours before another o...ne formed behind me. I didn't get home till mid afternoon & finally flaked it on the couch at around 10pm, so making it a 36 hour adventure. Was it worth it you may ask & my reply would be dam straight it was worth it. I have plans to become more active with this site over the coming year, hopefully posting at least 2 images aweek with a small back story behind each image. thanks guys & stay safe out there Dougal Taken with the Pentax K1 with the Pentax 15_30 lens sitting securely on top of the Leofoto Ranger series of tripods & using the Strikefinder lightning trigger. 02.01.2022 The Epson International Pano Awards results are out and all the winning images are spectacular as always. With all that's happening in the world atm & not shooting very much ( issues with my mental health, yep even I suffer from the trusty Black Dawg from time to time), and chronic back pain, I managed to pick up a Silver with an image from The Stirling Range & a Bronze with an image of a roll cloud at sunset with a bolt of lightning as it was heading for Albany. So all in all I'm actually pretty amazed with any result at all. Stay safe & thanks for checking out my page.

02.01.2022 Middleton Beach Jetty We don't get many storms in Albany, so it was great not having to chase for hours this time as cells kept forming around the area all day & into the evening. It's always an adrenaline rush while lightning is all around you & I had a few "holy crap that was close" moments yesterday. "Licensing available via Severe Weather Australia"

02.01.2022 Sorry about the length of time between posts folks. I can probably count on 1 hand how many times I've had the camera out this year. So needless to say I'm rather happy with grabbing a few gongs in this years Epson international Pano Awards. I really didn't expect anything to be honest but it's the only competition I enter every year. I'd you want to see some of the best photography in the world check it out https://thepanoawards.com/ Once again sorry about being quiet, but rest assured as I've got a few adventures planned for the new year (The Flinders Ranges in SA and The Kimberley) I should be back in my happy place & hopefully capturing some awesomeness
