24.01.2022 Can we talk for a minute about intuition and your natural instincts ? You know that deep gut feeling you get when you know something isn’t right or that little voice in your head that feels like it’s pushing you to do something that isn’t in line with what you would usually do? . If there is one tool in your birth kit that is the most important, this is it and the best thing.....every single one of us has it! . You have that gut instinct for a reason and sometimes it can take... a little work mentally to learn to trust it. A lot of us grew up being told ‘adults know best’, ‘listen to the doctor because they know best’, we are taught to push those instincts aside to ‘fall in line’ but NOBODY knows you or your body better than YOU! You know what feels right and what doesn’t, you will know if something is wrong you just need to tune into what your body is telling you. . Birth is such an instinctual act. Yes I believe in birth education and I think it’s an important part of preparation but I also believe you have have everything you need to birth your baby right there inside your body and mind. . When in labour tune in, listen to what your body in telling you. Move how your body is telling you to. Are they telling you they want to do something that just isn’t sitting right with you ? Ask what the alternatives are and if it still doesn’t feel right just say you need more time. . Those instincts will follow you through your motherhood journey, I once had a paediatrician tell me ‘You have no idea how many times a mother’s instincts has saved her child’s life’ and I can absolutely agree with this because it happened with my son (that’s a story for another day). . So if there is one piece of advice I can give any expectant mother it’s to tune in, learn to trust your body and your baby because you will know what is right for YOU! . @first_glance_photography . #birth #doula #pregnant #pregnantbelly #pregnantlife #birthright #birthisbeautiful #positivebirth #birthwithoutfear #homebirth #hypnobirthing #birthmatters #doulalife #birthdoula #doulas #doulasupport #doulalove #pregnancy #breastfeeding #doulawisdom #skintoskin #hospitalbirth #maternalhealth #postpartum #postpart See more

21.01.2022 STOP putting your own fears about childbirth onto other women. . STOP telling pregnant women your horror stories about birth. . STOP questioning HER choices.... . This is NOT your journey, it’s HERS ! . Inducing fear into a women and then covering it up with saying you’re ‘preparing’ them is NOT ok, you aren’t preparing them you are doing so much more damage than good. It’s also not your job to ‘prepare’ them, so just STOP. . Mama’s if someone is reflecting their own fears onto you then tell them to STOP, you don’t have to sit back and listen with a smile on your face. Protect your space and that includes your emotional well-being. Don’t engage in conversations where people are fear mongering you! Choosing to have a positive mindset doesn’t mean you aren’t ‘prepared’ in fact I like to think it’s the complete opposite of that . #birth #doula #pregnant #pregnantbelly #pregnantlife #birthright #birthisbeautiful #positivebirth #birthwithoutfear #homebirth #hypnobirthing #birthmatters #doulalife #birthdoula #doulas #doulasupport #doulalove #pregnancy #breastfeeding #doulawisdom #skintoskin #hospitalbirth #maternalhealth #postpartum #postpartumbody #postpartumbelly #postpartumjourney #postpartumhealth #brisbanedoula #brisbanebirthphotographer

08.01.2022 Delayed Cord Clamping . Anywhere from 25-60% of the babies blood supply remains in the placenta at the time of birth. Waiting to clamp the cord allows the placenta to pulse this extra blood to the baby. ... Whilst some providers say that delayed cord clamping is ‘standard’ practice for them, you need to be specific about your wishes because their ‘standard practise’ could be only 30 seconds and the cord could still be pulsating. For all my clients I recommend voicing that you don’t wish to clamp or cut the cord until the placenta is birthed, this leaves no room for interpretation of what they see delayed cord clamping to be. It is then up to you to make the decision of when you would like to clamp and cut, if that is before your placenta is birthed that is great because it was your choice . @first_glance_photography . #birth #doula #pregnant #pregnantbelly #pregnantlife #birthright #birthisbeautiful #positivebirth #birthwithoutfear #homebirth #hypnobirthing #birthmatters #doulalife #birthdoula #doulas #doulasupport #doulalove #pregnancy #breastfeeding #doulawisdom #skintoskin #hospitalbirth #maternalhealth #postpartum #postpartumbody #postpartumbelly #postpartumjourney #postpartumhealth #brisbanedoula #brisbanebirthphotographer

08.01.2022 We spend a lot of time talking about women in labour and preparing a women for her journey but I truly believe it is just as crucial to prepare your partner as well. They play such a crucial role in your journey and this is an incredibly transformative experience for them too. . During my prenatal visits it’s important that we work through any fears or apprehensions they may have and that they are involved in our birth prep so when the day comes they don’t feel out of their l...eague, they will know how to support you and they will feel a sense of accomplishment knowing that they were the best support they could be for you. . As a doula my role is to support your birthing partner too, to make sure they are fed and hydrated, to be a source of reassurance and comfort during the birthing process and to be there if they have any questions or need some extra tips on how best to support you. . Birthing partners matter too ! . #birth #doula #pregnant #pregnantbelly #pregnantlife #birthright #birthisbeautiful #positivebirth #birthwithoutfear #homebirth #hypnobirthing #birthmatters #doulalife #birthdoula #doulas #doulasupport #doulalove #pregnancy #breastfeeding #doulawisdom #skintoskin #hospitalbirth #maternalhealth #postpartum #postpartumbody #postpartumbelly #postpartumjourney #postpartumhealth #brisbanedoula #brisbanebirthphotographer

01.01.2022 How amazing are our bodies !! . While your baby is in the womb, its lungs are filled with fluid. Hormonal changes that occur during labor start to clear the fluid, and much of the rest is squeezed out as your baby passes through your birth canal. Any remaining fluid is coughed out after the birth or absorbed by your baby’s body. . You can see in this image the fluid being squeezed out, coming out of bub’s nose and mouth ... . @first_glance_photography . #birth #doula #pregnant #pregnantbelly #pregnantlife #birthright #birthisbeautiful #positivebirth #birthwithoutfear #homebirth #hypnobirthing #birthmatters #doulalife #birthdoula #doulas #doulasupport #doulalove #pregnancy #breastfeeding #doulawisdom #skintoskin #hospitalbirth #maternalhealth #postpartum #postpartumbody #postpartumbelly #postpartumjourney #postpartumhealth #brisbanedoula #brisbanebirthphotographer
