Doulas can do so much behind the scenes while your partner is totally present! #birthaims... As a doula I've squeezed hands, held monitors on bellies when the elastic was too tight, diffused oils, offered water, negotiated with care providers and maintained a dark, quiet space for mums in an otherwise chaotic place. I've given partners a wink of encouragement, brought food, massaged, provided acupressure, watched other children, cleaned, set up baths, showers, pools and fit balls, packed up birth spaces and assisted with breastfeeding in the early days. Lets be clear, a birth plan is not just an idyllic wish list lit by pretty tea-lights and trimmed with home-made bunting. A birth plan is a chance to take a detailed look at the huge number of choices and options available to you, to consider the many ways birth might unfold, and to really make sure your voice is heard in the labour room. It basically works in two ways: you spend time learning about your choices and at the end of this you have a clear document to convey these preferences to your health professionals.

Thank you Sarah Courtney MP, For considering and acting on our request for you to consider and review the COVID 19 One Person Birth Support Policy. We reached out to you with our concerns of the impact this policy was having on women due to give birth in Tasmania . Women shared with you their personal stories ,...their anxiety and the fear surrounding the thought of having to choose between their partner and their doula when it came time to transfer to the hospital to birth their babies. We asked you " Please don't make women choose. And thankfully,as from today they no longer have to. In conjunction with the care and support birthing women will receive from our dedicated midwives .You now have the option of up to two support persons . Ensuring you have the continuity of care and all the emotional and physical support that you require when the time comes for you to welcome your baby into the world.
