25.01.2022 With her doula!

23.01.2022 It can sometimes be confusing when a client is labouring beautifully then seems to get 'stuck'. Why does this happen?

22.01.2022 Great resource for parents and birth workers

21.01.2022 Fellow Doulas, all of my services are offered at no cost to teenage parents. I do ask that they make a donation to International Rescue for Birth Kits. I had an email from a 17 year old who had her baby last year. She has been saving money ever since and donated $275. I am so blown away as she is on Centrelink and doesn't have any other financial assistance. https://www.facebook.com/73970658023/posts/10157226656138024/

21.01.2022 As Doulas we are so often asked about 'going over' or 'should I get induced'? I go over this so many times I could say it backwards!

16.01.2022 Fantastic resource for Doulas and clients

14.01.2022 I have been contacted by a number of women lately voicing their concerns over 'fear mongering' from some Doulas to drum up business for themselves. This has been backed up by what I have read and heard on social media. I believe that this is only a small number of Doulas but it still concerns me greatly. For me as a Doula part of my role is to instil confidence in a birthing woman. I do this by providing unbiased, factual information, realistic childbirth education, positive ...encouragement and I am very mindful of the language I use. When I teach the Communication unit of my Doula Training I spend time on the impact our words, thoughts and views may have in others. My mantra is 'think about what you are going to say. Is it helpful to your client and what is your motivation for saying it?' I don't believe it is helpful to tell a client such things as: 'if she births in hospital she will be the victim of Obstetric Rape'. The majority of women birth in hospital - fact. It does not have to be scary - fact. It does not have to be traumatic - fact. It can be beautiful - fact. Doulas do not 'make' someone's experience better - fact. Doulas are not the be all and end all, birth happens regardless - fact. Can we make a positive impact - yes. Can we make a negative impact - oh yes. I strive to make a positive impact and I hope that in most cases I do. If I don't, I want my clients to feel comfortable in telling me why so that I can learn from that. See more

10.01.2022 Great reasons to have Doula support from belly to birth & beyond

05.01.2022 Yes imagine..........

02.01.2022 "The female midwives such as my grandmothers and other designated women attended to give physical and emotional support such as holding and massage; this relieved the discomfort of labour. More particularly it removed fear, and fear is responsible for so many prolonged and complicated labours."
