24.01.2022 Let’s party together!! The Dover "Give It A Go" team are throwing a family friendly bbq and activities break up party and we want to invite you! On Thursday 12th at 3pm we say farewell to 2019 and celebrate a fantastic 6 months of activities, engagement and fun times. We have been clowns, shot one other, boxed, authored stories, used fire extinguishers, crafted Halloween horrors and so much more. ... 19.01.2022 Project X will be bringing a public installation called Aftermath Dislocation Principle (ADP) to Dover in early November. They are currently on the look out for some young volunteers (aged 9-16), to help facilitate and invigilate ADP. There will be free food and a lot of fun! 18.01.2022 We have a hot topic planned for this week Fire Safety 101! We will be joined by special guest, local firefighter Peter Smith, to tackle the burning question, ‘What do we do in fire emergency?’ In the wake of this year's fires, this is such an important topic for our young participants to get in the know about.... We will look at: What is fire and how does it work? How to extinguish different types of fire How to stay safe in the event of a fire, small and large And, we will even get hands on with a fire extinguisher!! As always, parents and friends are welcome to turn up and engage in our young people's adventures. 17.01.2022 This Thursday at Give it a Go it’s all about Making Your Mark with traditional Japanese stamps! In Japan, people do not sign instead, they use stamps. These are called hanko, and every individual in Japan has one. A hanko is a carved stamp that can be used in any situation where an individual, or an individual on behalf of a company, might otherwise use a signature or initials.... Our Making Your Mark activity will be a culturally creative experience were participants will decipher their names into Japanese lettering (katakana), then design and create their own personalised stamps. This activity will include: Cultural appreciation and immersion Understanding offset printing Creating a unique personal stamp Be at the Dover District Hall this Thursday 3pm4:30pm we have an inkling you’ll love this one! 11.01.2022 This week we are Giving ORIGAMI a Go! I won’t give too much away here. You will have to come along and see how it unfolds! ... You might even learn how to make a paper crane, plane, ninja stars or something completely different, using nothing but a piece of paper, a little focus, and your fingers. (Fun fact: The Japanese word ori means "folding", and kami means "paper", and added together they make "origami"!) 04.01.2022 Our activity this week is... Give It A Scare!!! A "Horrible Halloween Craft Workshop" Prepare for some PUN-ishment!... We are going to CREEP it real this Thursday with some Halloween crafts. Before you shake you BOO-ty at the @doverdistrictschool Trick or Treat after party (at the school hall from 5:30pm), our youthful participants will be making spooky decorations to help add some fright to your night. Our session will include: Creepy crafts Ghoulish games Spooky snacks BONE appétit! A monstrous amount of fun. I was going to make a skeleton joke, but you wouldn't find it very humerus! 01.01.2022 We're back Today (Thursday)!!! Like all good things, we have taken the time to reflect on our program and have made some small tweaks to deliver an even better after school activities experience. What's new?... Firstly, we have put together a dedicated after school activities trailer. This "ROVER, Give it a Go" youth trailer will transport a wide range of equipment to allow us to host an even larger assortment of activities. ITS' FREE! No more worrying about "did I pack a gold coin?!". Just turn up and have a great time. As they say, the best things in life are free. Next we have slightly reduced the timetable, to better accommodate those suffering from the post-school-been-working-real-hard weariness. Our new timetable will still kick off at 3pm, but finish at 4:30pm. 3pm Meet at the hall, have a healthy snack and catch up 3:15pm Activity 4pm Cool down 4:15pm Safe free play zone and pick up All pick ups must be made by 4:30pm sharp. Give it a Go is an inclusive program parents, friends and professionals of the area are encouraged to come along anytime and join in with the activities. Drop in and out as you like. Enjoy a game, some crafts, and general interaction with our cool youth. The more the merrier! Lastly, we will be providing an active and inactive participant engagement zones. Our active zone will have physical activities and challenges, while the inactive zone will provide a safe supervised area for crafts, board games and reading. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the active zones, and there will be a greater reward for those who do! What's the same? Our friendly and encouraging staff will be providing an assortment of socially inclusive, wellness focused and worthwhile experiences for the young people of Dover.
