23.01.2022 Sturt NP is not too far west of the Dowling Track and a great little deviation if your not in a hurry. It's in upper western NSW.

23.01.2022 Birds love this stuff - Mistletoe, it actually kills the host plant that it grows on after a few years, so not everything loves it. But it is very pretty when the the berries form. The birds eat them, poop them out while sitting on a branch of a tree or bush and the resultant excrement sticks like glue and grows on the branch becoming a parasite. Love that word!!

23.01.2022 Kilcowera Station is halfway between Thargomindah and Hungerford and has the best campsites right on the waters edge at Cardenyabba Lagoon. Why don't you book yours now!!!???

20.01.2022 Update: we are in the process of sending new images and text to go on the signage. We are hoping to get the printing done by end December/January, with signs being erected late January, early Feb.

20.01.2022 Legend has it that there once was a pub in Hungerford that sat right on the border of Qld & NSW. As a consequence the pub’s bar was half in NSW, with the other... in Queensland. Last century the two states had different pub closing times NSW 6pm, and Qld 8pm. After 6pm, it was said that patrons of the pub would walk to the Queensland end of the bar, where they would literally drink until 8pm. (Possibly Commercial Hotel?) While this story can't be proven, there’s the story of Hungerford’s Royal Mail Hotel, which was established in 1874. The border between NSW and Queensland wasn't officially surveyed until 1879-1880, so when the Royal Mail was built, it was thought to be in NSW so licence fees were paid in that colony from 1874 to 1879. The survey eventually revealed that the pub was indeed in Queensland, and from 1880 the licence has been issued in this state; (Mick Roberts). The Royal Mail Hotel has accommodation as well as meals and of course, a variety of 'refreshments'. Oh, don't forget to check out the double decker bus and say gidday to the 'old couple' waiting at the bus stop!

18.01.2022 The Dowling Track has never, ever looked better than this spring. It has been a truly amazing last 3 months, the flowers, the vegetation, the birds that have come back. The Outback is an extraordinary place!

15.01.2022 A great stop on your way up or down the Dowling Track!

15.01.2022 There are quite a few Australian Bustards around now, so if your driving the Dowling Track keep your peepers open. They are easily approached in a vehicle but very wary if you are on foot, so best to stay in the car! They can grow up to around a metre tall.

14.01.2022 You will probably never see one of these, but they are out here! The Woma Python hunts mainly at night eating lizards, frogs, dingo pups and rabbits, anything it can get hold of! It's a beautiful snake that can grow to 8 feet long!!! But I have never seen one that long, this one was about 5 feet but very solid. #womapython

14.01.2022 So. If you are planning a trip out west here is a calendar of events in the Bulloo Shire, SW QLD. Lots going on and right on the Dowling Track!
