25.01.2022 Quandong update - I washed and stoned the quandongs and simmered them in water til soft. Then added a teaspoon of carb soda, stirred and watched it fizz and push brown scum to the top. This is said to negate some of the tartness of the fruit (and I agree). Scooped off the scum then added some sugar to taste. Stirred til dissolved then put in freezer when cool. Today I made some mini quandong cakes. The smell is just divine! Thanks Terri

21.01.2022 We love tomatoes! Are you a slicer or dicer? This morning I had both on toast, cut with my precious op shop tomato knife. A bit of home made ricotta, basil, pepper, salt and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. Mwwah! Lip smackin' good

18.01.2022 Today I acknowledge the Nharangga Aboriginal people on whose land I live, work and play. I respect the elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge your connection to country. May we work together to create a shared and loving future for all.

15.01.2022 Found a stash of chook eggs near the house. Hard to reach but the dog ball thrower came to the rescue!

14.01.2022 Woke up to a basket of spuds and Globe artichokes at the front door, so dinner tonight was a bit special. Thanks to our beautiful neighbours . Click on photos for instructions on baking artichokes

13.01.2022 Isn't it lovely going to someone else's place and getting to know their plants. Especially when it's something that's not from your area. I had a slight case of gum tree envy this week...

12.01.2022 Cleans and deodorises bins, is a great place to dry undies and hankies, can be used instead of toilet paper (but don't put down a conventional loo...), handy to wipe compost bucket out - a myriad of uses! Gotta love big, nice smelling, soft leaves. In this case, a tiny flowered pelargonium. Don't know which one it is but it smells great

11.01.2022 Mulberry and custard pizza - delish! We make the custard so thick the spoon stands up in it. Spread on the base with a spatula, sprinkle fruit on top and pop in the oven

10.01.2022 5 days for 80 or can buy 1 day tickets. Great value. I've attended an Nicole Masters online workshop but don't know much about the others apart from Alan Savory.

10.01.2022 Beautiful time down the beach with our new dawgie Willow. Never underestimate the benefits of taking time to notice nature, big or small

08.01.2022 I've done it again. Not written down who borrowed a book from me. It was quite a while ago, and obviously a mate or someone at our course or I'd have written it on my list. It's biggish book by India Flint about fabric called "Second skin". Anyway please return, I'm missing it!

08.01.2022 Thankyou to my lovely friend for the quandongs. Just need to decide what to do with them - watch this space...

06.01.2022 Basket update - it's time to start heading vertically. I'm amazed that you stand that row of stitches up as you make them and they stay there. Cutting the t-shirts into long strips is a nice, relaxing thing to do at night. I'll post another in a few weeks. I'm not a fast worker ;) Stay cool.

06.01.2022 Everyone at Down to Earth is ready and raring to go for our weekend 'Introduction to Permaculture' course commencing tomorrow morning. Always an exciting time! Stay tuned for photos on some our sessions over the weekend...

06.01.2022 Our February course is a happening thing! 2 days of fun, frivolity and a fair bit of permaculture learning. Read below, look at our webpage, ring or email for more info. We'd love to see you. $40 off for earlybirds paid by Dec 31st. Covid pending of course, reduced numbers and full refunds given if needed. This would make an awesome Christmas present for someone... ;)

02.01.2022 A lovely person gave me this shampoo bar a year ago. ONE YEAR ago. So for one year this little cardboard box is the only waste from my hair washing (and I'll rip it up and put in the compost when the bar's finished). I reckon there's another 6 months of use still to go as I wash my hair about every 10 days (in case you're wondering, it's thick and shoulder length - no crew cut here ;) ). Will keep you posted!

01.01.2022 Listening to the birds at dawn - so uplifting and magical. Here are some photos of our beautiful residents.
