25.01.2022 Cricket training for this afternoon (Thursday 22nd October) has been cancelled due to wet weather.

25.01.2022 Girls Football continues with two wins Monday afternoon. Today the Downlands Seniors took on the Glennie school in a much anticipated match. Having drawn 2-2 the last time we played them we knew it was going to be a tough game. The girls came out of the blocks firing and scored 3 great goals in the first half. The second half Glennie mounted a comeback and managed to score one goal against us, making the final score 3-1. Although the girls did not score in the second half, th...ere were multiple chances that either hit the post or just went wide which was unfortunate. Nevertheless, the girls should be extremely proud of their efforts today showing great class and proving why they are a force to be reckoned with. Goal scorers - Bridget Peden, Hannah Lee, Chelsea Reid. The Junior girls were too good for a much improved Mary MacKillop on Graham Green. Leading 2-1 at half time, avoiding complacency was the topic of the half time talk. A comprehensive display saw the girls win 6-1, after winning the 2nd half 4-0. Annalise Bigger was devastating in attack with 4 goals, Alecia Prior 1 and Skye Hassel 1. Once again a tremendous all round team effort, and although Annalise was the scorer of 4 goals, she really was the last link in the chain after some tremendous team work by her team mates. See more

20.01.2022 CHAMPIONS plus PROUD Coach!

19.01.2022 NETBALL SUCCESS Downlands College First VII finished the best of the locals in the Cup (Year 10-12) in making the final 16. They made a big impression through the pool stages, winning four of their six games.... They progressed through to the finals, where they were eliminated by Southport State High School 27-20. It was a great effort from the girls, coach Wendy McPherson said. After the pools were released, we were very much aware of how strong the pool was after coming up against a number of teams at QISSN. To beat some teams that we thought would be challenging was a great result, and meant we went through to the finals. Their final ranking was 11, which made us the top-ranked regional school in the state." "Brooke Fitzgerald was in many ways our most valuable player. She did very well. Two of our youngest players, Renee Cubby and Molly McPherson, were recently selected for Queensland, and they were strong." Because this group has played fairly closely together for the last few years, they’ve really been able to build on that. They’ve had a pretty good year considering it looked like nothing would be happening. The Junior First VII also played exceptionally well to claim two wins from seven pool games to just miss out on a finals spot in the shield competition (Years 7 - 9). #downlands #downlander #downlandscollege #downlandssport #netball

17.01.2022 SENIOR GIRLS FOOTBALL TRIUMPHANT IN FINAL RD Today was the final game for the Senior Girls Soccer and what a way to end, beating the mighty Highlands 3-1. Highlands have been undefeated all season so we knew coming into the final game they were going to be a tough opposition. As I expected, the Downlands girls came out firing and managed to score in the 13th minute from a screamer off of Bridget Peden’s left boot. Highlands struck back with a goal shortly thereafter and the g...ame remained 1-1 until half time. After half time Downlands’ defence were tested with a fierce Highlands attack that was managed to be subdued. 11 minutes into the second-half Emma Thomson scored off a corner putting us 2-1 up. With 14 minutes to go, Hannah Gordon sealed the deal with a fantastic 20 yard top corner goal that would make any coach proud. Overall the game was fought with pride and passion and the girls reaped the rewards of an excellent game, and season. It has been a pleasure coaching the girls and I look forward to working with majority of them next season. Well done girls! Mr Churchill CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS and Mr CHURCHILL a GREAT FINALE!

06.01.2022 DOWNLANDS GIRLS FOOTBALL In an amazing display of clinical football our senior girls defeated Mary McKillop 16 - 0 this afternoon. Today Downlands College took on Mary Mac College in what was a dominating display of football from the senior girls winning 16-0. It is very rare to see a score line this high but the girls deserved every goal that was scored. They played with a fierce determination and didn’t stop until the final whistle. I could not be more proud of the performa...nce of each and every girl today. Well done. Mr Churchill JUNIOR GIRLS continued their winning ways with a hard fought 2-0 win against St Ursula's College on Graham Green. With scores locked at 0-0 at halftime, the girls were quick to take the lead after Annalise Bigger found the net within 4 mins of the re start. Some wonderful performances all across the field from the entire squad of 16 today, with special mention to Coco Robertson and Jorja Murray in central defence, Skye Hassell outstanding in midfield and Bobbie Hamlet keeping another clean sheet in goals. Outstanding effort girls, undefeated at the end of rd 1! See more

02.01.2022 Congratulations to Downlander: Ellie Johnston Story from the chronicle below: CRICKET: They might still be in high school, but the Johnston girls left a memorable impression on Brisbane's premier competition at the weekend.... Cousins Ellie and Ruth Johnston were simply unstoppable for the Ipswich/Logan Hornets at the weekend, each belting a century and forming a huge third-wicket partnership in the process. Captaining the Katherine Raymont Shield side at just 17 years of age, Ellie opened the batting on her way to a knock of 108. Coming into the middle with the Hornets at 2/35, Ruth, 17, linked with her cousin to turn the game on its head, scoring 128 runs as the two combined for a 189-run partnership. Growing up in Dalby, the pair have enjoyed success in Toowoomba cricket, the Girls Hub and at Fairholme College before making the step up to first grade in Brisbane. Hornets coach Wayne Bichel was left mesmerised by the display, which saw Ellie blast her maiden ton, and Ruth add her second. "It was great to watch. The two girls have a lot of talent, and for all the cricket they've played together, it was pretty special for Ruth to be there for Ellie's 100," Bichel said. "You almost forget how young they are. Ellie has been our skipper for three years now. She's level-headed and the girls respond to her. "Ruth has a lot of potential. She scored a century at the back end of last season, and she's really learning the craft. "They started patiently, got their singles away before opening up. They were two well-constructed innings." Such was the dominance of the Johnston cousins, the pair combined for 236 of Ipswich/Logan's 310-run total. "Ellie, on the back of securing a Queensland Fire contract, had scored a lot of 50s, so it was good to get the monkey off the back," Bichel said. "Ruth has really built off the 100 from the year before. "They were a bit dirty that they didn't get to 200 (run partnership). It's the right attitude, because as good as it was, they're still pushing themselves to go further. "The innings has ebbs and flows, and the best place to learn about that is in the middle. They're learning the different stages of their innings." #Downlands #downlander
