23.01.2022 Good afternoon ! I'm interested in buying one CARBONTEX DRAG WASHING SHEET for my fishing reel. But I have a doubt about the thickness I should buy, 0.5 mm or 1 mm. My fishing reel is a Shimano TwinPower 5000 FB and in the reel manual the part number is 10345. I would like you to help me with the thickness I should buy.... Thank you +++++++++ Most spinning reels use 1.0mm carbontex. It is often the case that the drag stack can accept slight variations in washer thickness. Please order 1.0mm? Confident you will be pleased See more

23.01.2022 HUMOUR BREAK Good ol' Aussie know how Thanks to Dan Abadir:

22.01.2022 Gabbi Goodglutes reminds our readers that the Downrigger Shop bent butt game combo is ideal for wahoo because the reel's fantastic drag system stays smooth and steady when your fish hits the afterburner. The bent butt rod keeps the reel down low and gives *you* the leverage advantage, not the fish. 2-piece bent butt 24 kilo rod with roller tip matched with TICA 30 lever drag reel spooled with 500 metres of 50 pound colour change braid joined with an FG knot to 220 metres of 50 pound mono. Rod only $140, or the full combo $520. You’ll love it:

22.01.2022 Hey mate, how are you? Just wondering if you have any idea what fish this is +++++++ Don’t know! But I’ve seen pics of that one before. Will ask online, Andy

22.01.2022 SPECTACULAR. Thanks to Eddy Evans at Eden AFC:

22.01.2022 Hi Andrew, Hope things are well? I have just got 2 down riggers from you through Brisbane, just wondering if you have any info on how to set them up and how to use them? Thanks and best regards +++++++++++++... Follow setup instructions shown in the manual sent with your downrigger Adjust your release clip to whatever size line you are using once on the water, connect your bait or live bait to your hook using a size 18 rubber band and a bait needle keeping the weight and the drop back still inside the boat, connect your line feed your bait over the stern and click the line counter to 0 with the boat moving forward, back off the drag on your reel back off the downrigger drag let the weight sink to the required depth Tightenn downrigger drag and reel drag you’re good to go keep in mind that at over 2 knots small yellowtail will start spinning Cheers, Andrew See more

21.01.2022 At Terrigal FAD yesterday. Water temp just under 20 degrees and ocean colour a beautiful blue but, no current. And therefore, nothing there:

Had a one man charter and myself. The kings were all fat from 85 - 95cm and only interested in your jigs! Wouldn’t touch a live bait. Got a few days available if anyone’s interested with @terrigalsportfishing tight lines...

15.01.2022 b - b - but all the Sydney fishing influencers told me they were being wiped out, by rec anglers ??

12.01.2022 Missing 62-Year-Old Found Clinging To Capsized Boat 86 Miles Off Florida Coast November 29, 2020 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Stuart Bee, 62, was located approximately 86 miles east of Port Canaveral, Florida, Sunday.... The 225-foot motor vessel Angeles located the man alive on the hull of his 32-foot Sea Ray and took him aboard at approximately 11 a.m., after he was reported missing November 28. Bee departed Cape Marina in Port Canaveral on November 27 and did not return. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville received initial report of the missing man at 11:40 a.m., Saturday from a member at Cape Marina stating Bee typically does not stay out overnight on his boat. Watchstanders dispatched a C-130 Hercules aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater to respond and directed Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral watchstanders to issue preliminary and extended communications in an effort to locate the missing man.

10.01.2022 hi i am keen to order the carbontex sheet but not sure if i should get the .5mm or 1mm ones. I have a couple of daiwa and shimano reels. Can you kindly advise. thanks +++++++++ Usually, 1.0mm sheet suits threadline/spinning reels and 0.5mm sheet is for baitcasters. If you want to take the spool off your reel, open the circlip and pull out the drag stack? Carefully separate the drags and measure a non metal one. You can even do that against a steel ruler. But if too much bother, start with 1.0mm. Thanks for your inquiry and get back to me with any questions whatsoever, Andrew

09.01.2022 Your jigs work well ;) ++++++++++ Fantastic pics. Really grateful you sent them and please remind me of this when you place another order? Will add a freebie or two by way of thanks. Cheers, Andrew

04.01.2022 That's a shame:

03.01.2022 HUMOUR BREAK. Now that would be embarrassing. Thanks to Dan Abadir:

02.01.2022 Catch of the Day You're the trawler skipper and the net feels heavy. This is going to be a good haul. Well it was - just not what he was expecting. Remember in ...August when we rescued the two fishermen whose boat sank 20 nautical miles off Mooloolaba? Bet they thought they'd never see it again. Well not until the trawler's catch of the day was their boat. Hauled up, refloated and brought back to Mooloolaba, it now sits a bit the worse for wear at the Water Police pontoon. What are the odds of that happening?

02.01.2022 We have Beach fishing covered, flicking a few soft plastics from the shore and boat covered. I am not a confident enough skipper to take the boys out more than 4-6k’s from shore in our boat. So we are focused in the Pittwater and out a few k’s from Barrenjoey, the Harbour, Port Stephens and just offshore around cabbage tree island. So when we go after King’s and aren’t downrigging we need another setup or two. ++++++++++ All understood and thanks for explaining. I recommend our tried and true Hercules rod with Ryobi 8000 reel, pre-spooled with 24-kilo colour change braid and an 80 pound mono leader. We have caught some mighty fish on that one and so have our clients. And it’s not expensive:

02.01.2022 Hi mate, i was at laggers point boat ramp today on low tide, the water was out 100mtrs, you can see the high tide mark roughly 20mtrs from the end of the ramp with abit of soft sand, but my question is, how do you launch and retrieve your boat from this ramp being the above conditions, and what tides do ypu launch and retreive? ++++++++++ launch: 2 hours before high tide retrieve 2 hours after high tide not on the neap tides... small boat only with a mate to assist. Good luck and let me know how you go, Andy See more

01.01.2022 WHOA! If only the Maserati owner on Stockton Beach had known about this! His Maserati would still be in one piece:

01.01.2022 Tough offshore event today which I’m going to share in case it helps anyone in the future. No names, no pack drills. It was very sloppy offshore with a solid broken swell and winds generated by a local storm cell. Excepting one sailboat no other boat was seen. One of the crew was badly seasick although, as usual, after throwing up a few times he felt better, and was able to fish. After 30 minutes or so, worsened as also usually happens. I kept my eye on him but his colour ...was still good and he kept saying, ‘I’ll be okay.’ After some violent retching he stood up and then fainted, falling heavily on the deck. Remembering basic first aid I checked his airway first. His jaws were clenched but opened and slowly he came around. By the time we got back he seemed to be fine and perfectly normal. The lesson I’m taking from this little event is not to put too much stock in facial colour, when trying to judge how seasick someone is. Usually you see the skin go pale and then a bit green, and you know it’s getting pretty bad. In this case the guy is an outdoor type with a good tan - and also a bit of a macho man, who kept saying he was okay. But he wasn’t okay and, when he fell, his head just missed a pointed bit of deck structure. Maybe keep that in mind when you’re dealing with a seasick case out there? Pic was taken when we were nearly back and the seas had settled maybe 70% from early morning: See more
