The Bodalla RFS continues to protect and support the local community of Bodalla and surrounding areas. While thankfully Bodalla township was saved, sadly with the destruction of the bushfires many outlining communities have not been so lucky. We have seen many folks who have suffered the loss of everything, a lifetime of work and memories, and tragically for some the loss of loved ones, for whom our community grieves. Our hearts greatest desire in these difficult times is to help support those local communities that have lost so much, with at least $20.00 from every ticket sold going directly to the Bodalla RFS to aid those most in need. We will also have a donation bucket on the night for those who are generous enough to give more as well as for those who have also fallen on hard times themselves who wish to be a part of the evening, but find the ticket price beyond their means at the moment. Everyone is welcome! We would like to thank all those who have donated already, your kindness has been incredible, making a huge positive impact not only financially but emotionally. We also thank our RFS, these people have been pillars of our community, and we appreciate the selfless legacy they leave for us all to strive for. 14.01.2022 Sadly we have to cancel our Bodalla RFS Fundraiser. We were hopeful Bodalla would be safe today so that we could raise some funds to directly pass to the local ...RFS who are providing outstanding support to our community. We can’t thank them enough for the amazing work they are doing. Tragically we have found out a life was lost at Bumbo behind Bodalla on Thursday. This is another terrible loss for our community and our deepest condolences go to the family. We hope that in the coming days the weather is kind and the local RFS crews are able to make some progress with containing the fires currently around Bodalla and beyond. In lieu of being able to run our fundraiser, we have setup a GoFundMe to try and raise the funds we would have been able to contribute after our fundraising night. 06.01.2022 Bodalla RFS Fundraiser update, $6,500 raised! We are in the process of withdrawing these funds and preparing to distribute them with the help and advice of the Bodalla Rural Fire Brigade. Our greater Bodalla community is made up of a number of smaller communities, including Nerrigundah, Belowra, Eurobodalla, Cadgee, Bumbo, Tin Pot, Potato Point, Reedy Creek, Horse Island and Waincourt. These communities were hit hard by the bushfires starting on New Year’s Eve, when many had ...to run for their lives. We tragically lost three lives, and a number of homes were totally destroyed over January this year. The Downward Dog had organised a fundraiser event to support our community and our local RFS, with the help of local musicians Corey Legge + Sam Fletcher and our promotion team J&S Design. We were fully booked and ready to go, but after much time, effort and money was spent to hold our fundraiser for the RFS, unfortunately the evening had to be cancelled as we were once again advised to evacuate due to fire activity. As we cancelled the fundraiser it became obvious that the fires and the unending uncertainty were having an emotional toll, not only on our staff, but on all those who had been working on the fundraiser. It was then that J&S Design came up with the idea to try a GoFundMe. This action alone had a positive effect by allowing the fundraising efforts to go ahead, but it was the overwhelming support received that let us know that we were not alone and there were so many wonderful people willing to make a positive difference. We were surprised and grateful at the amount funds that were raised, so appreciative of the generosity from our donors and we are thrilled that we can now help those of our community hit hardest. It is planned that the funds will go directly to those in our surrounding areas that were most impacted. We have discussed this with our local RFS representatives and we have all agreed that the money will be divided equally and paid out directly to those who have lost everything. It was concluded as the best way to suit the individual and their individual needs, for example, one family requires to buy new school shoes and books for their children, their neighbour needs to cover the cost of their medication, while another needs to pay a phone bill in order to keep their business running etc. Giving them the funds directly and allowing self determination is the most effective way to give immediate aid to those who need it most. We are collating the information with Bodalla RFS as to which homes were lost, to ensure that no one is missed, and more info will soon be available on our GoFundMe page for those who will require it.
