21.01.2022 Show horses aren’t easy. It’s certainly not for the lazy or faint of heart. Definitely not for those who crave likes, the comments or seeking their 15 seconds of Instagram fame. What you saw is a victory lap, a smiling rider and cheering family. You saw the pretty tack and the coordinating outfits. You saw that picture perfect moment...... And you want it. You want to be that person. You want that horse, you want that photo, you WANT that blue ribbon. But here’s what you don’t see. You don’t see the stall cleaning, the feeding, the hay and the upkeep. You don’t see the hours upon hours of riding. You don’t see the failed executions, stumbles, falls, bucks and tantrums. You certainly won’t see the tears and the frustrations as things don’t go just right. You won’t see the vet bills, all nighters with a sick animal and the constant nagging in your mind of what could be next. If all you want is a victory lap with a pretty pony, a photo opportunity so your Facebook friends can like and comment... get on a carousel. Show horses, no matter the discipline, are hard work. Constant work. Never ending, ever changing. That victory pass you watched- you saw roughly 30 seconds that reflects months and years of work. So don’t ever believe this is easy.

15.01.2022 #TagTheBreeder Stop and think for a minute about the beloved show horse you gush about regularly on social media. Do you know off the top of your head who bred that horse you love so much? If someone asked you at your next show, could you tell them where to go to find another horse bred like yours? Many cannot. But even if you can, do you make an effort to help promote the breeder who brought your beloved horse into this world? If no, why not? Would crediting that breeder tak...Continue reading

07.01.2022 How much weight can a horse carry?! Let me tell you in my experience, a horse can carry an infinite amount! They can carry the weight of broken hearts, broken homes, and broken bodies. Countless tears sometimes comb their tangled manes. Moments when parents and friends cannot be there to help and hold a person, horses embrace and empower. They carry physical, mental, and emotional handicaps. They carry hopes and dreams; and they will carry the stress from your day when you ca...n't carry it anymore. They carry graduations, they carry new careers, they carry moves away from everything familiar, they carry marriages, they carry divorces, they carry funerals, they carry babys before they are born, and sometimes they carry the mothers who cannot carry their own baby. They carry mistakes, they carry joy, they carry the good and they carry the bad. They carry drugs and addictions, but they also carry the celebrations. They will carry you to success when all you have felt is failure. They will carry you, never knowing the weight of your burdens and triumphs. If you let them, they will carry you through life, and life is hard, life is heavy. But a horse will make you feel weightless under it all.

01.01.2022 I will never be able to describe the power of time spent cleaning stalls. During this time I have made some of the biggest decisions in my life. I have silently thought my way, step by step, through some of the biggest disasters of my life. I have ugly cried my way through heartbreak all while cleaning stalls. I’ve thrown bags of sawdust in range as I thought about all of the shitty things going on in my life. Each stall has oddly given me a place of comfort as I stood, for...k in hand, feeling empty during the times I’ve felt so alone. It has taught me to appreciate the serenity of the quiet. Realizing the ones in my life I can count on and the numerous fake people who are only present when convenient for themselves. I’ve enjoyed a free gym membership, as I’ve sculpted my back and shoulders into he man, just sifting away. I’ve stumbled my way, dry heaving, with sunglasses ....cleaning stalls through last night’s hangover, because god forbid my best friend be forced to stand in a dirty stall. Today I spend my morning, cleaning stalls and processing my life. I’m mentally making life changing decisions, as I write this post, knowing that whatever I decide, it will be the right one, as it was made in a stall. I understand that there are those who think us horse people should get real jobs. And that all we do is spend our days playing around. I’m genuinely sorry that you have never been exposed to a lifestyle that teaches you discipline, how to love unconditionally, put something other then yourself first, bust your ass for the things you want and need, kept humble by a 1200 lb animal, the real meaning of hard work, early mornings and late nights spent caring for something other than YOU. Those are things a real job will never give you. Some of you haven’t cleaned stalls ..... and it shows.
