22.01.2022 SAINT GEORGE & THE DRAGON BY MOREAU Gustave Moreau 18261898, Saint George & the Dragon, about 1889-1890 100% Silk... Hand Rolled Designed and Printed in Britain 42cm x 42cm This pocket square depicts the famous myth of Saint George & the Dragon, imagined at the key moment when Saint George strikes the fatal blow. The legend states that the dragon demanded regular human sacrifices, with the princess being drawn as the unfortunate next victim. However, the heroic Saint George rode to her rescue and saved her from her brutal fate. This scene has been a popular inspiration in Renaissance painting, executed by a number of well known artists from Rubens to Tintoretto (of which we also feature as pocket squares). The painting is an oil on canvas, and one of the few that Moreau actually completed. It works beautifully as a pocket square due to its dramatic colours, with the contrast between the dark hues and brighter whites and gold.

22.01.2022 COURSE OF EMPIRE - THE CONSUMMATION Thomas Cole, 18011848, The Consummation of Empire, about 18331836 100% Silk... Hand Rolled Designed and Printed in Britain 42cm x 42cm The Course of Empire is a series of paintings depicting the rise and fall of an imaginary city, representing humanity as a whole. The Consummation of Empire, the third in the series, depicts a summers day, where people are seen enjoying themselves, drinking and blowing horns to ships passing by. Cole represented complete decadence, reminiscent of ancient Rome, and, as ever in religious themes, decadence often means the worst is to come. This later stage is represented in our other pocket square from the series; Destruction. Light pastel colours are used which contrast with the bright red and orange hues used to represent the people and the ships. As a result, this pocket square would perfectly pair with a seersucker fabric or light coloured fabrics such as tan or cream, but it would also bring a light touch to darker colours such as navy or charcoal.

21.01.2022 THE ANNUNCIATION BY GIORDANO SILK POCKET SQUARE Luca Giordano 16341705, The Annunciation, c.1672 100% Silk... Hand Rolled Designed and Printed in Britain 42cm x 42cm This pocket square features a stunning work by Luca Giordano. Featuring The Annunciation, the work is a beautiful image where the colours blend beautifully in this classic work. Giordano was one of the leading painters in Naples in the late 17th century and one of the most sought-after Italian artists of his day. Working in a variety of styles, he often imitated the Renaissance masters. This altarpiece was painted after Giordano took a trip to Venice, and pays direct homage to the work of Titian. Luca Giordano (18th October 1634 - 12th January 1705) was an Italian late Baroque painter and printmaker in etching. Fluent and decorative, he worked successfully in Naples and Rome, Florence and Venice, before spending a decade in Spain. In 16821683 Giordano painted various fresco series in Florence, including one in the dome of the Corsini Chapel of the Chiesa del Carmine. In the large block occupied by the former Medici palace, he also painted the ceiling of the Biblioteca Riccardiana and the long gallery of the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi.

20.01.2022 THE BATTLE OF ALEXANDER AT ISSUS POCKET SQUARE Albrecht Altdorfer 14801538, The Battle of Alexander at Issus, c.1529 100% Silk... Hand Rolled Designed and Printed in Britain 42cm x 42cm The Battle of Alexander at Issus is an oil painting by the German artist Albrecht Altdorfer, who is regarded as a pioneer of landscape art. It portrays the 333 BC Battle of Issus, in which Alexander the Great secured a decisive victory over Darius III of Persia and gained crucial leverage in his campaign against the Persian Empire. The painting is widely regarded as Altdorfer's masterpiece, and is one of the most famous examples of the type of Renaissance landscape painting known as the world landscape, which here reaches an unprecedented grandeur. #atelierduplessis #rampleyandco #pocketsquare #silkpocketsquare #fineart #gq #sartorial #moda #tailor #robbreport #madeinbritain #luxurylifestyle See more

17.01.2022 THE LAMENT FOR ICARUS POCKET SQUARE Herbert James Draper, 1863 - 1920, The Lament for Icarus, 1898 100% Silk... Hand Rolled Designed and Printed in Britain 42cm x 42cm This classic work is from British painter Herbert James Draper, an artist renowned for his work on Greek mythology. This particular painting depicts the dead Icarus, surrounded by lamenting sea-nymphs. In the classic story, Icarus' father Daedalus made wings made of wax, so that he and his son could escape their island prison on Crete. But, overcome by pride, and ignoring all warnings, Icarus flies too close to the sun, melting his wings and plunging to his death. Drapers use of the male body for the projection of subjective emotion is a feature of late-Victorian painting and sculpture, while the rays of the setting sun on distant cliffs emphasise the transience of time. The warm colours here work brilliantly against a dark jacket, or can complement a lighter summer ensemble. Draper applied liquid light effects in his painting style, and this allows for subtle highlights when folded. The intricate border design also enables striking point folds. . . . . #atelierduplessis #rampleyandco #tailor #artisan #bespokes #pocketsquare #silkpocketsquare #fineart #gq #moda #sartorial #robbreport #luxurylifestyle #madeinbritain

14.01.2022 An exquisite shot by @arakeinprogress displaying The Battle of Trafalgar silk pocket square by Rampley & Co of London. The Battle of Trafalgar, as Seen from the Mizen Starboard Shrouds of the Victory, Joseph Mallord William Turner, 18068, Tate, London When we started this collection we were sure we wanted to include a Turner and this oil on canvas represents the moment Nelson was hit with the final shot. You can see him lying left of centre and if you draw your eye... towards the top right you see the smoking gun of the French marksman, high in the rigging of his ship, the Redoutable. The viewer is confronted by both the chaos of battle and the intimate tragedy of Nelsons final moments. A contemporary reviewer termed this a British epic picture...the first picture of the kind that has ever...been exhibited. #atelierduplessis #rampleyandco #silkpocketsquare #pocketsquare #battleoftrafalgar #fineart #gq #moda #tailor #sartorial #arakeinprogress #luxurylifestyle

08.01.2022 POLLICE VERSO POCKET SQUARE Jean-Léon Gérôme 1824 1904, Pollice Verso, c.1872 100% Silk... Hand Rolled Designed and Printed in Britain 42cm x 42cm Pollice Verso, is a painting by French artist Jean-Léon Gérôme. The literal translation of Pollice Verso from Latin is 'with a turned thumb. This painting features the now infamous Roman gesture directed to the winning gladiator. The turned thumb on the painting is given by the Vestals to the victorious murmillo, awaiting the decision on the beaten retiarius at the Colosseum. Gérôme deliberately uses light and perspective to depict some of the key features of the work, while the blend of voyeurism and a sense of moral superiority is a specific 19th-century feature. . . . . . #atelierduplessis #rampleyandco #silkpocketsquare #robbreport #madeinbritain #pocketsquare #artisan #gq #moda #sartorial #fineart #polliceverso #luxurylifestyle #tailor

05.01.2022 The Tax Collectors Office Circa 1615, painted by Pieter Brueghel the Younger 1564 - 1638. This is one of Brueghels finest works painted on oil on panel, 74.5cm H x 106.5cm W. Pieter Brueghel the Younger specialised in genre paintings populated by peasants, often with a landscape element, though he also painted religious works. Making the life and manners of peasants the main focus of a work was rare in painting in Bruegel's time, and he was a pioneer of the genre painting. Currently The Tax Collectors Office is housed in the Art Gallery of South Australia.

05.01.2022 Our cashmere scarves are manufactured in Yorkshire, in mills that can trace their history back over 250 years. This is why you can be sure you're getting the finest quality cashmere scarf available. Cashmere is a natural fibre, and it takes true craftsmanship to deliver an exceptional product. We achieve this by working with only the finest raw materials, and blending textile knowledge passed down over hundreds of years with modern manufacturing techniques. The end result is ...scarf that feels luxurious when worn while being made to last. Cashmere is a fine wool fibre coming from the Cashmere goat. The Himalayas and Mongolia are most famous for their goats, which produce wool of a fine and soft nature, protecting the animals from the harsh conditions of the winter season. Cashmere wool is known most famously for its softness, warmth, strength, and durability. The fineness of the fibre ensures the softness of the finished textile. Hair from normal goats will have a diameter of 36 microns, compared to the 19 microns of most types of cashmere. The materials with the finest fibres will be soft to the touch and feel extremely lightweight. Cashmere is of course also very warm and able to keep heat in through its isothermal properties. Its warmth is dependent on the strength of the raw fibres. Because of the above factors, cashmere is known for being a luxurious and expensive product. Historically, it has always been a high priced item, and gained reputation in the West through its luxurious feel and softness appealing to the upper class women in Britain during the 17th and 18th centuries, and has since become staple winter product in the luxury industry.

Lining: Our jackets feature your choice of fine art silk linings which can be viewed on the link below. Once you've chosen your lining, simply select it in the drop-down above, along with your sizing requirements. Our fine art silk jacket linings are what make a jacket truly unique. Adding a fine art lining to a jacket not only gives the jacket a stunning finish with a flash of colour as the jacket moves, but gives the jacket real meaning. Our silk jacket linings feature some stunning works from masters such as Canaletto, Giordano, Turner and Rubens. Our linings feature both landscape and portrait works which determines whether the jacket will feature a key central image across the back seam, or a scene that goes across the entire lining. Our linings are manufactured in Macclesfield, which was once the centre of the English silk weaving industry and the world's biggest producer of finished silk. The area has been printing silk for over 300 years and at one point had over seventy mills operating in the town. The town is close to a water supply that passes through limestone, and when used in washing and dyeing it gives silk a uniquely attractive lustre. Our silk linings are printed at a mill that has been producing printed fabric on the same site for the past fifty years and the process uses water sourced from its own reservoir.
