05.01.2022 Across Australia, deaths from the misuse of prescription drugs were higher than the annual road toll. It was agreed that the government of the State of Victoria... (Australia’s second most populous state) would pilot the first technology-enabled, mandatory real-time prescription monitoring system SafeScript. DPR&Co´s brief was to raise awareness of the problem and alert users to the fact that their prescription history with certain drugs would be accessible to their doctor and pharmacist. A secondary mandatory was the removing of stigma from the issue and reassuring the public that SafeScript was designed to help people find alternative paths to manage their illness or overcome their dependency. Based on an intensive research program conducted over a 6-month period, DPR&co gained an understanding that the dependency of prescription drugs was misunderstood. Drugs that were helpfully prescribed could also lead rapidly to dependency. Correcting this misunderstanding was at the core of their response. Results Post campaign research with the general public showed: 50% ad recall and understanding of the message 20% increase in recognition of the risk of misuse 33% increase in willingness to discuss with their GP #projectspotlight #agencyofthemonth
