19.01.2022 Melanoma is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer for both men and women in Australia. Now that COVID restrictions are lifting, maybe you could finally get that weird mole checked out?

16.01.2022 Covid-19 Information There is a lot of information and misinformation out there about this new disease called COVID-19. Obviously, the situation is changing qu...ickly and we suggest that for updated information, the following links are useful. https://health.act.gov.au//updated-information-about-covid https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//dise/Pages/coronavirus.aspx In addition, you would probably like to know as a patient, how we are handling COVID-19 at Hobart Place General Practice All patients who ring up for an appointment at Hobart Place General Practice will be asked if 1. they have travelled in the last month. 2. If they have travelled, whether they have arrived from China, Iran, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, France, Germany or USA in the last 14 days or 3. have developed symptoms of a respiratory infection within 14 days of return to Australia from one of the countries listed above or 4. have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 infection. If someone answers yes to 2, 3 or 4, they will be put through to our nursing team. The nurse will assess how unwell the patient is and if there is any uncertainty, he or she will seek the assistance of one of our doctors. Patients who are unwell with a high fever, shortness of breath and/or frequent, severe coughing will be directed to one of our Emergency Departments. Patients with mild symptoms will be directed to the Weston Walk in Clinic at 24 Parkinson St, Weston ACT 2611 which can perform tests for COVID-19. Currently, we are trying to limit the number of suspect patients and COVID-19 patients we see at Hobart Place General Practice as we are not able to replenish our stock of personal protective equipment from our medical suppliers and we still not certain what the Federal Government plans to do about replenishing our stocks. Patients who have returned from a country on our list within 14 days but who are asymptomatic will be asked if the matter for which they seek an appointment can wait until more than 14 days after their return. If not, we will try and see if the matter can be resolved without an appointment. If not, the patient will be given advice as to how to attend the clinic without potentially transmitting an infection. These arrangements have been put in place to limit the risk to patients attending Hobart Place General Practice as well as safeguarding the health of the staff and doctors at Hobart Place General Practice We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but hope you understand the reasons for our actions. These arrangements will also change as the presence of the disease evolves in Australia. Hobart Place General Practice will be offering Telehealth and video appointments in the coming fortnight - To be offered to those who are covered under the new MBS Billing items. We will update you when this service is available and to who this service will be available for once confirmed by Medicare.

08.01.2022 Staff at our Respiratory Assessment Clinics at Weston Creek Walk-in Centre and Canberra Hospital are working hard to assess and, where appropriate, test people ...for COVID-19. More than 1000 people have been tested, with most people found to have the common cold. Many more people have presented for testing without having met the testing criteria this puts an unnecessary strain on our service. If you do not meet the testing criteria, you will NOT be tested. You should be tested for COVID-19 if: youve travelled overseas recently, and you develop symptoms of COVID-19 (such as fever, cough, sore throat, headaches, difficulty breathing) within 14 days of leaving an overseas country you have been identified as a contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19 and you develop symptoms (such as fever, cough, sore throat, headaches, difficulty breathing) of the disease you are a health care worker with direct patient contact, and have fever AND acute respiratory symptoms (e.g. shortness of breath, cough, sore throat), even if you have not recently travelled or had contact with someone who has COVID-19 Disappointingly, some members of the community have been quite aggressive towards our nursing staff. Our hard-working staff are members of the community they are your neighbours, friends, relatives. Please respect our health care workers and be patient. For more information on COVID-19 visit www.health.act.gov.au/novelcoronavirus

05.01.2022 This is via a psychologist friend in Melbourne, developed post the 2009 Victorian bushfires. Helpful for anyone experiencing fear and distress in current circumstances, from health care professional to grandma to parents struggling with stroppy scared tweenagers. Remember to be kind to yourselves, rest, spend time with loved people, and keep doing the things that make you feel happy - even if its just a cup of tea with the dog, or giving your kids a hug. http://www.melbournepsychologyandcounselling.com.au/recover
