22.01.2022 EVERY region of the body is interconnected. - We do not function as individual parts. - The shoulder will absolutely have to work harder with less thoracic range of motion.... - An increase in thoracic kyphosis and loss of thoracic mobility in extremely common. - Have you got a shoulder issue? Has anyone assessed your spine? If not it's time to call @hamersleyfamilychiro on 0400 768 500. See more

22.01.2022 EXTREMITY ADJUSTING. - A common misconception is that chiropractors are only trained to treat spines. - BUT, did you know that graduates from Murdoch University undertake 5 years of university training, over 2 degrees, covering all areas of the musculoskeletal system.... - Just like spinal adjusting, extremity adjusting can be used to improve range of motion, decrease pain and positively alter proprioception (how well the joints communicate with the brain)! - #chiro #chiropractor #sports #sportschiro #adjustment #extremityadjusting #musculoskeletal #conservativecare #performance See more

21.01.2022 Foot strengthening with the @fasciitisfighter. This device helps put higher loads onto the plantar fascia which helps to strengthen it. Used as part of a well designed program it can help to improve plantar heel pain. 21.01.2022 FELLOW CHIROS . - The International Sports Chiropractic Federation (@fics_sportschiro) are hosting their first ever global virtual symposium, with a massive lineup of guest speakers. Registration coming soon!

20.01.2022 YOUTH RESISTANCE TRAINING - Unfortunately the old myth about weight training stunting growth and increasing injury risk is still out there. Its a concern that's been expressed by parents to me a few times in the last while and has even come from some coaches. - A 2010 review (the best kind of evidence) found no evidence that resistance training will negatively impact growth in height during childhood and adolescence.... - Like all training for sports in childhood, proper technique under supervision is key but kids shouldn't be excluded from getting stuck into gym based activities based on outdated thoughts. There are numerous benefits to resistance training and even with kids alot of the rehab I prescribe is based on, you guessed it, resistance! - Faigenbaum AD, Myer GD. 19.01.2022 Program graph is too satisfying. Time to taper for the @beachsidefestival

19.01.2022 Office artwork on point. - points if you can tell me which region of the spine each vertebra is from

18.01.2022 Did you know that Australian chiropractors are government registered and regulated, and undergo a minimum of five years of university study! This #SpinalHealthWeek why not #ConsiderAChiro as part of your action plan on pain! www.considerachiro.org.au

18.01.2022 PERCUSSIVE MASSAGE THERAPY. - A tool that I often use in conjunction with adjusting is percussive (vibration) massage. - Vibration massage provides stimulation to muscle spindles and increases afferent activities, which is a fancy way of saying it reduces the perception of pain in the brain. Pretty cool, right!... - It's also a great way of reducing pain in those that aren't the fondest of chiropractic adjustments. So if thats you, rest assured we still have awesome ways of getting you out of pain and feeling better See more

17.01.2022 Cutest little visitor to the practice today 8 weeks old! Joy, you can bring little Bailey into your appointments any time

16.01.2022 WHAT AN ADJUSTMENT ISN'T - An adjustment isn't cracking anything. - The joints of our bodies have fluid in them with dissolved gases. This fluid lubricates the joint. When a joint is moved quickly negative pressure is created within the joint capsule and the gases are pulled out of the fluid, making a pop noise.... - This gas release is no more significant than any other gas that comes out of your body - . So don't stress, your chiropractor might crack you up in other ways (insert lame jokes here)but we don't crack your back. See more

15.01.2022 It was a privilege to present to the future of our profession. - Thank you to @sportschiroaustralia for the opportunity and thank you to everyone who tuned in across the country.

15.01.2022 SHOULDER MOBILITY

14.01.2022 WHAT IS AN ADJUSTMENT, AND WHY DO WE DO THEM? - Spinal adjustments or manipulations are used to restore the motion and function of joint biomechanics. - What does this mean??... - Joints can stop moving the way they should due to a variety of factors such as acute injuries or very commonly, lifestyle factors. Adjustments restore motion to the joints. - There are a lot of things going on with an adjustment that research is only now starting to understand. Not only do adjustments improve movement, they also seem to improve the communication between the body parts and the brain through complex interaction with the nervous system. This is not only important for altering pain signals for patients with neck or back pain for example, but also for those that 'don't have any issues' such as athletes. Better communication pathways between the body and the brain may be the extra 1% athletes need to get that edge over the competition and likely why many of sporting greats such as Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan and Tom Brady swear by their chiro! 10.01.2022 CPD time thanks to @auschiros Take homes: Load is not bad for painful or degenerative discs and correctly prescribed exercise from your healthcare professional can actually be more beneficial than avoiding exercise when you are in pain.

09.01.2022 Of the 8.7 million Australians currently working from home, a third report suffering from back pain, neck pain and tension headaches, with over a quarter of suffers having never experienced this pain before. 08.01.2022 Today I had a discussion with a patient who said a barrier to commencing care was that they weren't very keen on manual adjusting, Ie: they were a bit afraid of being cracked. - It's definitely not the first time I've heard this and let's be honest, if you are new to it, adjusting can look and sound a bit weird. - Because of this I thought it would be worth doing a series of posts on the topic.... - First we'll discuss what an adjustment is and what it isn't and then we'll get into some of the options we offer besides manual adjusting so that if 'cracking' ain't your thing you can still feel comfortable commencing chiropractic care. - . 07.01.2022 THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE DOING WITH CORTIZONE, ANTIINFLAMMATORIES AND PAINKILLERS. - The body is telling you some thing is wrong. - Don't shoot the messenger.... - **Sure, painkillers and NSAIDS have their place. Pain sucks and sometimes we need to take the edge off to get on with life. BUT, whilst they may be a part of the picture for some people and conditions they aren't the answer.** See more

04.01.2022 Running injuries are unfortunately common and novice runners (like me) get injured more than twice as much as experienced runners (Kemler et al, 2018). - Working on increasing the capacity of the tissues (muscles, tendons, bones etc.) to handle more load may prevent injuries from occurring in the first place. Strength training has been shown to reduce overuse injuries by almost half(Lauersen, Bertelsen and Anderson, 2014). - Here's my current conditioning day
