22.01.2022 Introducing our founder, Dr Derry Rogers. Dr Derry Rogers received his BDSc, LDS from the University of Melbourne in 1977. He is the founder and past president of the Australian Society of Dental Aesthetics, a past-Accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Fellow of the International Academy of Facial Aesthetics and a member of the International Who’s Who of Professionals.... He is the Clinical Director of The DR Institute, delivering clinical hands-on seminars and didactic programs for dentists globally. He is an international lecturer and author of numerous articles and manuals on Cosmetic, Reconstructive Dentistry and Practice Management. Dr Rogers completed an Executive MBA at Harvard University in 2010. When not in clinic or teaching, Dr Rogers enjoys skiing, flying his Cessna, tennis with his Vino Rosso group of mates (25 years and going strong) a good wine and general fitness to stay healthy and focused on assisting his team at DR Dental South Yarra. 21.01.2022 ‘Why do I need to have a dental hygiene treatment every 4-6 months?’ This is a question our patients often ask us at #DRDentalSouthYarra, so we thought we would help our patients to understand the importance of these treatments. Gum infections (gingivitis) are insidious issues that rarely experience pain.... As such, it is important to carry out a dental examination and gum health evaluation on a regular basis to prevent infections getting established. Leaving dental or gum infections until they cause pain generally leads to extensive and often costly treatments. 20.01.2022 Pandemic induced incline in teeth clenching and grinding A recent article in the New York Times by Dr Tammy Chen, a specialist Prosthodontist , addressed the concerning increase in teeth clenching and grinding related dental issues since the Covid-19 pandemic. Many factors can contribute to clenching and grinding but the most common factor is stress.... If left untreated, teeth clenching and grinding can lead to worn teeth enamel, tooth fractures and internal cracks that put the long term health of teeth at risk. Signs of clenching and grinding: Headaches Tightness or pain of the jaw muscles Worn down tooth enamel Sleep Disruptions Pain on biting The recent ‘work from home’ movement has required many individuals to undertake work duties from a make shift workstation, which if set up inadequately can attribute to back strain. Poor posture during the day can affect the jaw joint (TMJ), leading to teeth grinding and clenching during sleep at night. Address your workstation if working from home; your computer screen should be at eye level. When sitting at your desk, ensure your shoulders lean forward over your hips, and your ears over your shoulders.
