23.01.2022 The microsuction probe and speculum that I use to microsuction the wax and other foreign bodies out your ears. Simple and effective tools of trade that aren't scary at all! #earmicrosuction #ccmcperthgp

19.01.2022 To Microsuction or not to microsuction - that is the question! I sometimes see patients who can't differentiate between wax in the their ears vs having a blocked ear from a cold or barotrauma from recent airplane travelling. When I tell them theres nothing to suction, these patients are disappointed that I cant offer the service. They sometimes ask "can't you suction a little bit" or "do it for a few seconds?". I still offer a medical opinion on how to manage their symptoms but they are occasionally unhappy that microsuction is not the answer for them. #perthgp #earwax

17.01.2022 Ear microsuction works best when the wax in your ears is soft. If you have hard wax then using ear drops that are available from your pharmacy without prescription may help to soften the wax. Alternatively, you may insert a few drops of olive oil into your ears a few days prior to your appointment. #earmicrosuction #ccmcperthgp

16.01.2022 What is it like having ear microsuction? Lying on you back, you will initially feel the warmth of the bright light on your ear. When the procedure starts, it sounds like a loud vacuum cleaner in your ear. You will feel like something is gently scratching your ear -this is the sterile suction pipe gently removing the wax. You will need to lie as still as you can unless Dr Edmond asks you to move to improve his visibility or so that he can reach different areas of your ears. Coughing or sudden movements during the procedure can cause the accidental injury in the ear canal or your eardrum. Dr Edmond will stop regularly during the procedure to allow you to move, cough and remain comfortable. It generally takes 2-3 minutes per ear to complete the procedure. #earmicrosuction #blockedears

13.01.2022 Wax build up or blockages are often uncomfortable, sometimes painful and can reduce your hearing as it blocks your ear canal. In certain cases, patients experience ringing in the ears, or tinnitus, and sometime experience dizziness. Patients that most commonly experience wax build up or blockages: Have narrow ear canals, Have lots of hair in the ear canals Use ear plugs at work or have hearing aids Spend significant amount of time in the water (swimmers, surfers and... the like) Have skin conditions which cause the skin to flake Have regular ear infections Clean the ear canal with cotton buds and push wax further into the canal towards the ear drum #earmicrosuction #blockedears

12.01.2022 Earwax build-up is not just a problem for the elderly but can affect people of any age. This patient is in their early 20's! Please note that I bulk bill ear microsuction for all Medicare card holders at Central City Medical Centre Practice. #earwaxremoval #earmicrosuction

10.01.2022 It looks like a vacuum cleaner because that is exactly what it is a small, low pressure suction machine. The pipe on the left hand side of the photograph attaches to the sterile ear microsuction tube that I insert into your ear through a speculum. On the left had side of the machine is the bin into which all the ear wax goes. As it is not the most pleasant thing to see, I keep it covered and not just for this photo! #earmicrosuction #ccmcperth

10.01.2022 As ear microsuction sounds quite loud, we suggest that you dont do a hearing test for 24-48 hours after the procedure. #earmicrosuction #waitaday

09.01.2022 It is rare that patients experience any pain from ear microsuction . If you have an existing ear infection, you might experience some discomfort. Taking an over-the-counter painkiller before your appointment will likely provide the pain relief required. If you have any pain during the procedure, immediately let the doctor know. #earmicrosuction #ccmcperth

08.01.2022 Earwax that is causing a problem somehow is impacting "1 in 10 children, 1 in 20 adults and up to a third of older people" . Read this interesting article published on ABC entitled "do you need earwax removal and what's the best way to keep your ears clean and healthy?" https://www.abc.net.au//do-your-ears-need-earwax-/10889416

07.01.2022 Naturally produced by the sebaceous glands in your ears, earwax ax is made up of three things mixed together: 1. Dead skin 2. Oil secreted onto the skin called sebum; and 3. A special form of sweat called cerumem Although it can look pretty gross, it plays the key role of lubricating your ear canal, keeping it moist, capturing any dirt that makes its way into your ear and keeping water out. ... . . . #earwax #earwaxiscool #earwaxremoval #earmicrosuction #blockedears #perthgp #perthfamilydoctors #microsuction #ccmcperth See more

06.01.2022 "Why do I need ear microsuction?". This is a question I am often asked. Sometimes the ears stop cleaning themselves or are unable to do so sufficiently to remove the wax that naturally builds up in the ear. This is quite common among older patients and patients who spend a lot of time in the water (swimming and surfing). It is also common among patients that clean the inside of their ears with cotton buds or "q-tips", pushing the wax down the ear canal causing it to build up near the eardrum something we do not recommend you do! Ear microsuction may be required to remove this build up of wax in the ear canal or to remove any foreign bodies in the ear canal. #earmicrosuction #earwaxremoval

04.01.2022 I'm often asked "what happens after the ear microsuction procedure?". I don't generally perform this procedure routinely for most patients. Once it has been done and the wax has been removed, that resolves the problem for most patients. Some patients can experience ringing in the ears or dizziness but this rarely last long after the procedure. There is no need to book a follow-up appointment unless you experience any other symptoms that worry you. #earmicrosuction #ccmcperthgp

03.01.2022 How much earwax is produced? While the amount of wax produced varies from person to person most people produce enough ear wax to do the job required - lubricate your ear canal, trap dirt and keep water out. It then naturally falls out of the ear when they chew or cough. #healthyears #earwax

01.01.2022 What is Ear Microsuction? Ear microsuction is a technique that can be used to the remove wax or foreign bodies from your ears with what is essentially a tiny vacuum cleaner. Using a microscope and a bright light, so that he can see your ear canal in great detail, Dr Edmond inserts a very fine, sterile suction tube in your ear. This allows him to vacuum up the wax or foreign body. Most of it goes into the container attached to the suction device. Some of the larger pieces attach to the end of the suction tube and are extracted and disposed of manually. #earmicrosuction #hearingloss
