24.01.2022 Abdominal Pain, Heavy Periods and Uterine Fibroids History: 44-year-old lady who is para three (two vaginal deliveries and one caesarean section). Patient presented with abdominal pain and heavy periods. Ultrasound showed a bulky uterus with fibroids. Procedure: Total laparoscopic hysterectomy and removing both fallopian tubes. Uterosacral ligament suspension to prevent prolapse of the vaginal vault. ... Histopathology: Benign fibroids were confirmed. Postop: Patient recovered well with no concerns.



23.01.2022 Laparoscopic Subtotal Hysterectomy and Morcellation of a Fibroid Uterus in Espiner Bag Clinical Background: A 67-year-old patient was referred with a fibroid uterus, abdominal pain and constipation. MRI showed six uterine fibroids ranging in size between 10mm-30mm. The patient’s cervical screening test was normal. Operation: Laparoscopic subtotal hysterectomy (cervix was left), bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (removal of the tubes and ovaries), morcellation of the fibroids... in Espiner bag (to prevent spreading fibroid tissues in the abdominal cavity) and cystoscopy (camera in the bladder). Histopathology: Histopathology showed benign fibroids and endometriosis. The tubes and ovaries were normal. Postoperative Recovery: The patient’s symptoms have improved significantly including pain and constipation. All laparoscopic wounds have healed. 22.01.2022 Laparoscopic Hysterectomy for Large Posterior Uterine Fibroid History: A 45-year-old patient who is para three (all vaginal deliveries) was referred with heavy periods and anaemia requiring iron infusions and painful periods. The patient is known to have uterine fibroids which had been growing larger in size. An MRI of the pelvic showed a large posterior uterine fibroid measuring 8.5cm. Procedure: Laparoscopic hysterectomy, removal of the fibroid and removal of both tubes.... Histology: Benign fibroids were confirmed. Postop: All wounds have healed well. There was a slight sensation of heaviness in the lower part of the abdomen but no pain was reported.

20.01.2022 Laparoscopic Hysterectomy for Abnormal Cervical Cells and Uterine Fibroids Background: A 52-year-old lady who had a previous caesarean section was referred to Dr Gailani with irregular vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain and abnormal cervical cells (low-grade lesion). A decision was made to proceed with a total laparoscopic hysterectomy. ... Intraoperatively, a left ovarian cyst was identified and removed. Histopathology of the cervix came back confirming low-grade lesion. The histopathology of the uterus showed benign fibroids. Histopathology of the left ovarian cyst showed a benign tumour (benign serous cystadenoma). The patient has recovered well with no concerns.

11.01.2022 Laparoscopic Subtotal Hysterectomy for a Large Fibroid Uterus Background: A 42-year-old lady was referred with heavy bleeding and period pains. An MRI showed extensive large uterine fibroids. Procedure: Laparoscopic subtotal hysterectomy, debulking of the fibroid and removal of both fallopian tubes (uterus and the fibroids removed, the cervix was left). ... Histopathology: Histopathology of the specimen showed benign fibroids. Recovery: All wounds healed and the patient recovered well with no significant concerns.

08.01.2022 Fibroid Uterus with Vaginal Wall Prolapse Clinical Background: 52-year-old patient who is para two (one caesarean section and one vaginal delivery) presented with symptoms of vaginal wall prolapse and an ultrasound showed a fibroid uterus. Procedure: Total laparoscopic hysterectomy, removal of both tubes and ovaries, uterosacral ligament fixation laparoscopically to correct the prolapse. ...
