19.01.2022 ARTHROSCOPIC MEDIAL MENISCECTOMY OVER AGE 40 At the recent AOA conference in Adelaide Dr Paterson presented his latest research on medial meniscectomies over the age of 40. The results show that if there was sudden onset and positive clinical signs and MRI evidence of a flap or radial tear and minimal chondral breakdown, then there was a high chance (75%) of a successful outcome from surgery. The more of those factors that did not apply, the worse the outcome. And even with ...all aspects favouring an arthroscopy, 5% still went on to unpredictable rapid arthritis. This means that before having a knee arthroscopy if you are over 40, you should see an experienced knee surgeon who can thoroughly assess your knee and advise on all the treatment options.
