A stand-out individual on looks and easily the most expensive horse to race at the Sydney midweek meeting on Wednesday, Dracarys won the Hyland Race Colours Plate.... The race was run in driving rain and it turned the track into a test of stamina but Dracarys confirmed he is no $1 million show pony, drawing clear for a 1-1/4 length win as the $4 favourite. "It looked liked he never handled the ground but obviously a little bit of class shone through," co-trainer Paul Snowden said. So it was for Kaoru Star, Snitzel, his sire Redoutes Choice and his granddad Danehill as well. All were sparingly raced before retiring to stud where the talent each displayed on raceday paled alongside anything they were to achieve in the stallion barn. Its the same situation in which Dracarys finds himself, not long ...off the racetrack with only a handful of starts to his credit and a stud career beckoning. Dracarys, a brown foal of 2014, demands attention for many reasons. Of course there is his bloodline, saturated as it is with quality, and the athleticism which carried him to Group race success, not to mention the powerful presence he casts standing at 16.1hh. There is also the tiny, yet salient fact that he will be one of the few sons of Snitzel at stud in Queensland, having taken up residence at Oakwood Farm, the Haigslea-based operation of Bob Wood and his daughter Sheridan Victor. Dracarys is the complete package, Ms Victor says. Being by Snitzel means he is going to be popular but besides that hes a great physical specimen and he represents one of the most successful sire lines in the country and we are excited to have him. It seems Dracarys was always destined to be a headline act. He has an immense amount of talent but unfortunately the industry never truly got the chance to see how good he was because he was injured and retired, part-owner Justin Stivano said. Peter Snowden, trainer of nearly 1000 winners and twice successful with colts in the sire-making Golden Slipper Stakes, thought very highly of Dracarys, at one time declaring: He is an extremely talented colt with an exceptional turn of foot. Dracarys success in the Group 3 Up and Coming Stakes at Royal Randwick offered the perfect demonstration of Snowdens lofty evaluation with the colt setting a record tempo to lower the mark of 1:15:08 set by Charlie Boy in 2015. Dracrays was a graduate of Snitzels seventh foal crop just as his sire was beginning to generate interest through his Cox Plate-wining son Shamus Award. Dracarys mother is very good as well. There are few better females in the stud book than Nocturnelle, Mr Stivano said. Nocturnelle, by Gone Wests champion son Elusive Quality and herself a winner on six occasions, is a 2008 daughter of the Victoria Racing Clubs Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes winner Dama De Noche, by Snippets from Danehill matron Daisy Bates. 03.01.2022 DRACRAYS - where does the name come from, what does it mean and how do you pronounce it? While it may now longer be on our TV screens, the series Game of Thrones (GOT) was responsible for many new figures of speech over its 8 seasons, and there were obviously many GOT fans amongst the racing community as evidenced by the names of some thoroughbreds on the track. DRACARYS is a High Valyrian (a language) term meaning "dragonfire" and is used by the Mother of Dragons, Daenerys T...argaren to command her dragons to breathe fire and generally roast her enemies. " Dracarys makes a promising start" "Top Echelon has been joined at Oakwood Farm by a new arrival in Dracarys, the Group 3 winning son of Snitzel, who has stood his first season at $6600 (inc GST).... "Hes had about 30 mares so far and we are still getting a few through," she said. "We were initially 50-50 on whether to go this year and suggested to the owners it might be worth waiting until next year. But they wanted to have a little go this year, so thats fine." Dracarys was a $1 million purchase at the 2016 Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale by James Harron, with the best of his performances in seven starts when he broke the Randwick 1300 metre track record in winning the 2017 Up And Coming S. Behind him that day were subsequent Group 1 winners Ace High (High Chaparral {Ire}) and Trapeze Artist (Snitzel). "I think this horse has got a really good chance of making it.
