23.01.2022 Grand Final day Tigers 114, oncoming traffic: 0.

22.01.2022 Today is International Womens Day. This is Beatrice Tilly Shilling. In a time when few women attended university, she managed to earn both a degree in elec...trical engineering in 1932 and a Masters degree in mechanical engineering in 1933. She joined the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough in 1936, and during the Battle of Britain she developed a key fix for the Merlin engines in Spitfires and Hurricanes. Early versions tended to flood their carburettors under negative G forces and stall. As the equivalent German fighters had fuel injected engines which didnt suffer from this problem, it quickly became known that there were certain manoeuvrers where British fighters simply couldnt follow their opponents. Her solution was a field modification to the carburettor (predictably known as Miss Shillings Orifice) which fixed this problem. She remained at the RAE until 1969, becoming head of the Engineering Research Division and working on a variety of projects including the Blue Streak missile. She also raced motorbikes seriously before the war, including a 106 mph lap at Brooklands on her Norton M30, which was impressive by any standards on a 1930s bike. See more

21.01.2022 Roadside rescue today to get Kerri and Greg back in business. I think Greg may have mentioned the word "Ducati" within earshot of the R100, which was met with ... a BMW protest. Off again on the sturdy R80. Thanks to Kerri and Greg for their understanding, and to Carolynn from Tasmanian Motorcycle Transport for German-Italian translation and support.

16.01.2022 Art Moto is gathering momentum, but we need more people to bring their bikes and their stories to make it happen. This is not just a bike show, or an art exhibi...tion. Its a social event where you will speak to the artists and owners and hear the stories behind their creations and enjoy yourself. Expect some hearty food, music, dancing and a (very) lucky door prize. Message me about your modified cafes, posties, scooters, scramblers, flat trackers, bobbers and rat rods. This event is for you, and we need your help. Break the dark. Bring it! Gnomon Pavillion, Ulverstone, July 27. Fiona Francois Art, Art by Ariel Pascoe, Dragonfly Classics See more
