24.01.2022 We couldnt agree more!

22.01.2022 What if... We all worked harder to remember that while the "right" materials are important, FAR MORE IMPORTANT are the freedoms you are able to gift to children... with materials you already have: The freedom to CHOOSE how to use materials: toss out your preconceived adult ideas, and quietly be in the moment and embrace the ideas of children. The freedom to ASK for what they need: instead of placing everything children might need to use certain materials, give them an opportunity to ask for what they need. The freedom to CROSS POLLINATE the toys: get rid of boundaries that prevent imagination and innovative thinking. Let the blocks mingle with the books and babies -- great things will happen. The freedom to FAIL: you do not need to make sure materials are perfectly suited for each other before you present them in the environment, that takes away a good chunk of the learning. RANDOM is fine. In fact, the most amazing moments in my program were inspired by random mixtures of materials. The freedom to DISCOVER: invitations do not need to be pretty and obvious. All too often, well-intentioned teachers remove the "open-endedness" from open-ended materials simply because their invitation is quite closed-ended and obvious. The freedom to OWN their technique: just because they arent trying to accomplish a task using a technique that YOU would use, does NOT give you permission to step in and correct them. Give children the freedom to not only own their technique, but to also ask for teamwork (aka: help) WHEN THEY decide its necessary. The freedom to be BORED: adults are afraid of bored children. BOREDOM is the birth place of BRILLIANCE and should be celebrated. The freedom to OBSERVE: sometimes, children want to sit back and simply observe. TRUST ME...what is happening in their brain during moments like this is NOT simple. There is value in observation. WHAT IF.

22.01.2022 DISCIPLINE? ABSOLUTELY, AS LONG AS ITS POSITIVE What does the word discipline conjure up for you? Takes you right back to childhood, right? Did you like being ...disciplined? I bet not. When I talk about the benefits of shared power, connection, and problem solving, parents inevitably ask, Are you saying that we shouldnt discipline our children? or Isnt that undermining my authority? Great questions. The dictionary defines discipline as using punishment to correct disobedience. However self-discipline is defined as train[ing] oneself to do something in a controlled and habitual way. When you discipline yourself, do you inflict punishment on yourself? A sacrifice may be necessary but only if you want a new habit more than you want the old one. The derivation of the word discipline is from the Latin disciplina instruction, knowledge as in disciple. We know that children learn best when they are fully engaged in experiential instruction-not through the experience of isolation, shame or losing privileges. A mother came into one of my weekly groups with an assignment from her five year old. He said, Mom, ask your parenting group what you should do instead of sending me to my room when Im bad, because it doesnt work, you know. All it does is make me mad. There is our lesson on punishment. But if I dont punish, how do I discipline? First we have to de-define discipline as punishment. Because it doesnt work, you know. HERE ARE THE MEANS OF ACHIEVING POSITIVE DISCIPLINE:.... http://bit.ly/2sADu90 Video series Follow Your Heart with Anne Cullen Gentle Discipline playlist bit.ly/TNPFYHGD . . The Whole-Brain Child . . 16.01.2022 WHY do we think we need to constantly quiz and question children? RESPECT a childs right to silence, to not have to jump through adult hoops, to simply BE...alone with their thoughts.

16.01.2022 Children at Dragonfly learn through play, scientific exploration, discovery, friendships, art and nature.

15.01.2022 Kids learn to be emotionally intelligent by being treated with respect and kindness. A child who grows up to be an adult with high emotional intelligence (EQ) ...will have stronger relationships with others and will be more likely to live up to their highest potential. Parents can help model this behavior by being fully present and practicing empathy towards their child. The key is to put yourself in your childs shoes. Empathize and understand before you problem solve or give advice. Learn more about how to communicate empathy and understanding towards your child when you sign up for Emotion Coaching online. 12.01.2022 THE DO’S AND DON’TS OF RISKY PLAY We spend much of our lives doing our best to keep our children safe. We bundle them up when it’s cold. We feed them healthy fo...ods. We put plug covers in the electrical outlets. We put child safety locks on all the cabinets. We buckle them safely into their car seats. So, why in the world would we ever allow our precious little ones to take any sort of risk that could get them injured? That seems crazy, right? Maybe not. When children are allowed to participate in risky play, it challenges their bodies in new ways. It develops strong muscles and organizes the senses, which increases their cognitive development. For instance, going upside down moves the fluid in the inner ears and helps improve spatial awareness. Spinning in circles improves balance and attention. And climbing to high heights advances children’s motor skills and promotes a sense of self-confidence and accomplishment. I will never forget the time when my oldest son, Neko, conquered a 30-foot tree and proclaimed, I am the king of all of the earth! He walked taller that day. 07.01.2022 Here is one of our most popular investigations at the moment: the Cork Machine, as it has been named! Used for dropping, posting, sliding, tipping loose parts into. It may not look pretty but it gets a lot of use from the children! It has held up surprisingly well after about 6 weeks of play and we modify it as we go along.

07.01.2022 Limited vacancies currently available for children aged 3 years (or nearly 3) and over! Located in leanyer, we are a small service of 16 children and have a focus on scientific exploration, connections with nature and child led learning.

05.01.2022 The number of reported #coronavirus cases in children is low, and the majority of those affected have only had mild symptoms. If youre worried about how the vi...rus could impact your child, infectious disease researcher and paediatrician Dr Asha Bowen has shared what we know so far about how coronavirus affects kids on ABC News. 03.01.2022 Here is our role play nook! It has previously been a hospital, a shop, a school, an office, a puppy school, a performance stage with dress ups, a baby nursery.... Now it is a holiday home as our children have loved packing and going on holiday lately.

02.01.2022 TRY THIS NEXT TIME YOUR CHILD HAS A MELTDOWN Have you ever heard the phrase Use your words? Or perhaps youve said it to your child when theyre having an ep...ic meltdown? If you have, its OK Its incredibly frustrating and stressful for both of you when theyre crying, screaming and upset. Especially when it happens in a public place right in front of everyone. You just want it to stop. Yet if you ask your child to use their words instead of behaving a certain way, it often intensifies the situation. Have you ever noticed that? Finding those words can often feel challenging, overwhelming and frustrating when theyre having such intense feelings. And heres why Your childs Soul didnt come into this life knowing how to naturally communicate with words. Thats a learned skill that develops over time with refinement.
