25.01.2022 MBT on the banks of the Arno making memories in 2018. Looking forward to doing it all again in NZ in 2022

24.01.2022 Wonderful memories. Looking forward to 2022.

22.01.2022 Happy Easter everyone from MBT. Lets hope well all be back on the water and having fun again soon. Until then stay safe and although we are all social distancing lets try and find other ways to keep our wonderful social connection alive.

22.01.2022 Its been a while since we have been on the water, so we thought we would re-visit our trip across the ditch last year with a short clip of the Breast Cancer 200m. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1wNCcuMjdE

21.01.2022 We are so blessed to be living in Queensland. What an absolutely fantastic morning on the river. Our new paddlers were getting in some race practice ready for the Regatta next weekend. The locals even came out to cheer us on.

20.01.2022 Look how much fun we have

20.01.2022 Great start to the day with trainee sweep Jenny Seddon on the back, trainee coach Sue Von Richter on the front and a crew in training on a beautiful Brisbane winter morning.

20.01.2022 What a morning we had on our last paddle for the year. We had of course a nice and a naughty crew and everyone came suitably dressed. It’s not hard to guess which boat those little back seat elves were in though! We did a double paddle so our awesome Jenny could clock up her 20 hours sweep training. We sang Christmas songs, Coach Di gave out prizes for best paddlers on the day and the rest of us just ate lollies! We were also joined by a new paddler Heather for her first come and try. Hope she doesn’t think it’s like this every Saturday! It was a wonderful way to end what has been such a tough year for so many and our virtual arms go out to all our fellow paddlers all over the world. We carry you all with us in our hearts and minds. Merry Christmas to you all, may you find peace and goodwill wherever you are

20.01.2022 Beautiful spring morning on the Brisbane River. Time to blow off a few winter cobwebs !

19.01.2022 Theres always a way to get on the water if youre an MBT paddler !

18.01.2022 On Saturday we came together to celebrate the life of our beautiful Vicki Spanring and to farewell her with a special Flowers on the Water ceremony on the Brisbane River. Vale Vicki. Your smile and your spirit will be greatly missed but we will carry you with us on the water always.

18.01.2022 So, where did the name Missabittatitti come from? It was all as innocent as celebrating the end of treatment of a wannabe paddler back in April 2004. Corina had joked about having a Survivor (as in the reality show) party when she finished her treatment. Little did she know that her daughter was planning a surprise party with that very theme. Among the guests was a group of new breast cancer survivor friends who wore their buffs (pink of course) and carried their bamboo ...torches proudly. Of course, they needed a tribal name. From the moment Pete Cardell came up with the name Missabittatitti, it was a winner. Corina was presented with an immunity idol (a statuette with one breast missing), an immunity bra made from coconut shells and her own pink buff. It seemed a shame not to make the most of such a striking name and so the DA Brisbane team enthusiastically adopted it as their own. It seems that the name has contributed to forming an even closer team bond and continues to help raise awareness of breast cancer. Corina still has her Immunity Idol, Immunity Bra and her pink buff - 16 years later. The idol has copped a bit of a hard life (a bit like the rest of us, said Corina)!!!

18.01.2022 A year ago we were on our way to Nationals. Photos from the road trip crew !

18.01.2022 It was great to be back on the water for the first time this morning. Eleven of our Members joined with the sports paddlers from Brisbane River Dragons - Dragon Boat and Outrigger Canoe Club.

17.01.2022 We are still paddling under a COVID safe plan - its never too late to come and try Dragon Boating!

16.01.2022 On the Anniversary of the 2009, 2015 & 2019 Ord River Marathons by our Members, we thought we would honour the original DA Brisbane Team from 2004. Im 2004, Lyn, Jo, Rosy and Lexie joined with DA Gold Coast to travel to Kununurra for the 55km Ord River Marathon. There were 3 pink boats, two from DA Darwin and ours. We were given wide brimmed hats and t-shirts to commemorate the event. We were looked after so well by the Kununurra team that we all felt like royalty. Unbeknownst to everyone, Michelle Hanton has organised the ABC to film the event and this was shown on Australian Story. There was a huge boost in Dragons Abreast Membership after this story was aired as many BCS women joined, as well as a general increase in Dragon Boating in Australia.

16.01.2022 Who needs water or a boat when some of the MBT crew get together !

16.01.2022 Very exciting news for Dragons Abreast Brisbane ( Missabittatitti) members. In this our 20th Anniversay Year a new race shirt has been designed and developed and was showcased yesterday just prior to our AGM. Thanks to all who were involved in producing such an amazing new shirt. Special thanks to our Merchandise officer Joy Geaney for all her hard work and to Helen Underwood and Sue Von Richter and other members who assisted. We cant wait to wear them !

15.01.2022 To celebrate our 20th Anniversary, we are going to post some photos from our archives. The first three are from the Club Crew World Championships in Rome in September, 2002. Some of our Girls joined other BCS paddlers from around Australia and Canada to form the "Internationally Abreast" Team.

15.01.2022 MBT warming up. Thanks Sue VR for the new routines !

15.01.2022 Its even more fun when were racing

15.01.2022 Very special moment from Auschamps 2019.

15.01.2022 For the Fallen BY LAURENCE BINYON With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children, England mourns for her dead across the sea.... Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit, Fallen in the cause of the free. Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres, There is music in the midst of desolation And a glory that shines upon our tears. They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted; They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. They mingle not with their laughing comrades again; They sit no more at familiar tables of home; They have no lot in our labour of the day-time; They sleep beyond Englands foam. But where our desires are and our hopes profound, Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight, To the innermost heart of their own land they are known As the stars are known to the Night; As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust, Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain; As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness, To the end, to the end, they remain.

14.01.2022 And an interesting finish especially for the drummer !

13.01.2022 Another beautiful morning on the Brisbane River. Its getting warmer. Why dont you come and join us ?

12.01.2022 What a great day we had on Sunday at the DAGC Christmas on the Creek Regatta. We had 34 MBT members paddling in 1,000mt and small and standard boats in the mixed category and 3 boats in the BCS category, plus a large contingent in the Champagne & Caviar shore crew and of course our very own men’s shed. It was great to have 3 new members paddling in their first regatta, and also to see a number of other members back in the boat again Thanks to Coaches Di and Sue, sweeps, drummers and all paddlers who gave it their all both for themselves and for all those who couldn’t be with us but who we carried in our hearts on the water. Not only did we take out the BCS category but we cleaned up on the raffle and thanks to Desley for her idea of COVID Santas we won the best dressed category too.

11.01.2022 Heres the next one in our From the Archives. In July, 2001 Dragons Abreast Brisbane and BRD took part in the first Cancer Council Queensland Relay for Life at Victoria Park. Pictured - Steve (BRD), Janelle, Di (BRD), Otto, Pat, Helen, Ann, Sue, Edith.

11.01.2022 Such a special memory for us all.

08.01.2022 It was a fantastic spring morning on the Brisbane River today as we celebrated coach Di Cys birthday. So privileged to be able to celebrate with two awesome crews and on such a beautiful day.

08.01.2022 So for the past four weeks MBT have been undergoing a program at the University of Queensland to help our members to get back to paddle fitness following the Covid shut down. This program delivered by Kirsten from UQ with the support of Rick and Helen Lambe has been funded under the COVIDsafe Active Clubs Kickstart Grant. This fantastic initiative has been embraced by paddlers of all ages and fitness levels and has provided us all with ongoing fitness programs that we can incorporate into our day to day lives. Thanks to Kirsten and all who have supported us. Special mention to our OBEs ( over bloody eighties) who continually remind us that you are only ever as old as you feel !

08.01.2022 From the Archives Series. Initially the club only had one boat which was an old green Geelong model hired from the GC Chinese Club. In 2002, after the enormous effort of Janelle Gamble the club received funds from the Southbank Corporation to purchase two boats, Moggill and Black Magic. The CEO of SouthBank, Mr Bill Grant not only provided the funds but also access to South Bank and its facilities and so began the BRD/DAB annual corporate event.

07.01.2022 And this one. So much fun before we even got on the water

07.01.2022 We might not have got back on the water this weekend but we all got a good workout at our mini boot camp.

06.01.2022 Big Shout Out to Sherry and Louise at Club Lime Victoria Point for your support during your recent Think Pink Class.

05.01.2022 It was an absolutely glorious winter morning on the river this morning. From next week we will be able to have more of our Members back in the boat with the easing of COVID restrictions here in Queensland.

04.01.2022 Well what a morning we had on the Brisbane River. With the assistance of some of our BRD friends two MBT boats set off from the Colmslie boat ramp and after a rainy start the sun came out. It was fantastic to be back on the water with Coach Di and Coach In training Sue VR putting us through our paces. Then once the boats were put carefully away it was time to enjoy our first BIP since Covid Restrictions began. We were very careful to make sure we safely followed all the directives and although social distancing meant no hugging there was plenty of warmth in everyones smiles. Our new banners and Bali flags looked awesome and although it was great to see so many members our thoughts were also wth all those who couldnt be there today. You were all missed and were very much a part of our first morning back together again.

04.01.2022 Dragons Abreast Brisbane - Team Missabittatitti have made it into print, spreading the word on the benefits of dragon boat paddling after a diagnosis of Breast Cancer. A new publication called Dare produced by Australian Seniors and with a production run of over 200,000+ readers throughout Australia and New Zealand.

04.01.2022 Still time for a cooee under the bridge though !

03.01.2022 Here is our next in the "From the archives" series. On the 16th & 17th May, 2001, Janelle Gamble, Edith Cooper and 8 BRD paddlers travelled to Darwin for the 6th Australian Championships held at the Lakes Resort, Berry Springs, Darwin. Along with members from Darwin and Canberra the very first Breast Cancer racing was held in Australia. Three boats of 8 paddlers raced over the 250m course with DA Qld/Act posting a great time of 1.32.55. Pam Bell from Sydney had never even se...en a Dragon boat, was convinced to drum the first race - after the race she said "its too dangerous sitting up there", so paddled the next race. When the BC paddlers came off the water the rest of the paddlers at the Nationals made an arch of honour with their paddles, something which is still done today.

02.01.2022 We know that everyone is missing their Dragon Boating both on and off the water. To help you get through we have prepared a little flash back from the last year.

02.01.2022 Well what a weekend it was for MBT. We started Saturday with our regular morning paddle on the Brisbane River and were greeted by Santa and an Angel on our return Then it was on to our Christmas Party where lots of fun was had by all and plenty of hydration commenced to prepare for Sunday’s regatta. Our coaches Di and Sue were thanked for all their efforts through the year and some special birthdays were celebrated. Secret Santa’s were distributed to those who’d been nice and even those who’d been a bit naughty and there was some very interesting costumes. All in all a very MBT Christmas
