23.01.2022 Ever wonder what's behind the screen of an All-In-One Mac ? Well after an hour of using a hair dryer to melt the gum on the doublesided sticky tape holding your screen in place this is what you see...

20.01.2022 QuickTime - End of Life Please feel free to link this advisory to anyone you know that may find this useful. You may have received a message from Trend Micro, or from other sources to remove Apple's QuickTime program from your PC. This is because Apple is phasing out QuickTime support so the two currently known security holes and any future discovered ones will not be patched meaning that your system will be vulnerable to attack through these security holes if you keep QuickT...ime installed on your system. In order to remove QuickTime from your PC follow the steps shown below... Go to the Control Panel (If using Windows 8 or 10 Click on Run/Open a run Dialog box (Control + R) and type in Control Panel (Image1) Make sure your View by: is set to Small icons... Then Click on Programs and Features(Image2)... Once the Installed Programs list has been populated (this may take a few seconds to a minute depending on the speed of your PC), scroll down to QuickTime. Select QuickTime and double-click the program name(Image3)... Answer Yes (default answer is No as shown below) to the Are you sure prompt and let the Windows Installer take care of the removal(Image4) Java 6 also has security issues so if you find any references to Java 6 in your PC also remove this software too. If you are unsure of what to do here please either call me or Email me and I'll look into getting it sorted for you. Warm Regards Karl Edwards Dragonstar Total Computing

16.01.2022 Scareware Attacks If you get a popup on your screen indicating that you are virus infected and to call a specific number to clean your PC - DON’T! The person you are calling is a scammer and they will do one or more of the following things * Lock you out of your PC... * Remove, copy or steal your data * Password protect your PC against you * Obtain credit card details and milk your account * Hold you to ransom in order to let you back into your PC These people aren’t from Microsoft, Windows (not a real company but the name is used to win confidence with the mark ie. you!), Norton or any other big company. Those companies don’t give a toss if you DO actually have a virus and they will NEVER call you, or attempt to clean out your system. If you have ANY sort of popup, or are unsure if your system has been compromised contact an authorised, local computer technician to check over for you.

04.01.2022 SCAM Alert! Hey Everyone, I just received an automated phone call purportedly from the ATO threatening my arrest for tax evasion unless I called a specific numb...er and got it sorted out. Be warned this is a scam. Basically this is the breakdown... Australian Phone Scammers Threaten Arrest For Tax Evasion By Brett M. Christensen On March 10, 2016In Phone Scams, ScamsTagged 'Tax Evasion Arrest Warrant' Phone Scams, tax evasion and tax avoidance phone scam Outline: Australians are receiving automated phone messages purporting to be from the tax office that claim they will be arrested for tax evasion and tax avoidance if they do not call a specified ‘hotline’ number. Brief Analysis: The calls are not from the ATO. Instead, they are scams designed to trick people into sending money and personal information to criminals. If you call back on the number left by the scammers, you will be told that you must immediately send money via a wire service such as Western Union to cover a supposed tax debt and avoid immanent arrest. The scammers may also ask you to provide a large amount of your personal and financial information, which they may later use to steal your identity.
