22.01.2022 Is Your Dog Reactive On The Lead? A training technique called ‘BAT’ helps animals gain confidence and social skills. BAT is a natural method that creates an emotionally safe interaction with minimal intrusion. BAT is especially useful when the triggers for frustration, aggression, or fear are living beings, for example when dogs bark at or bite other dogs or people. Please let me know If you would like more information or help.

18.01.2022 How Will Easing Covid-19 Restrictions Affect Our Pets? Are you worried about your pet may have become accustomed to having you around most of the time. As good as your intentions may be, you're possibly not going to be able to continue with the same level of walking/exercise routine implemented during isolation. A stark drop off in exercise may affect your pet in one way or another. For some dogs who weren’t originally accustomed to excessive exercise a sharp decline in exer...cise may lead to excess pent up energy, weight gain, and frustration. Pets who are suddenly left at home by themselves can easily suffer from boredom. Without anything to occupy them, your pet may find themselves in mischief to stay entertained. If you need help with any of these Animal Minds Brisbane can help. We want to see all animals get the help they need so we endeavour to keep our fees as low as possible. Please feel free to contact us if you have any concerns we can help with.

07.01.2022 How To Help Your Pet Transition Back to 'Normal' 1. Ease Back Into It If you can, try to make the change of routine as gradual as possible. It may be beneficial to leave the house for short periods of time before delving straight back into full-time work away from home. A few days before you go back to work or school, try a few half-day outings, leaving your pet at home by themselves.... 2. Consider an anxiety aid If your pet is particularly anxious, you might like to try a pheromone product such as Adaptil for dogs or Feliway for cats. A natural anxiety supplement or treat can also help soothe your pet and ease the transition back to your normal routine. 3. Keep them Occupied with Clever Toys Interactive toys a great way to keep your pet busy and distracted if you’re away from home! There are plenty of interactive toys which dispense treats or encourage your pet to work for their food. You can even make your own treat-dispensing toy by cutting small holes into an empty drink bottle and filling with kibble 4. Distract them with a Long Lasting Treat Long lasting treats are great to keep your pet occupied when they're alone. Fresh raw bones can be a good option (but be aware of the risks of feeding raw bones) as are treats such as Goat Horn, Cow Hooves, and Ear Chews. 5. Create a Treasure Hunt Explorative feeding is a fantastic way to excite and mentally stimulate your pet, and is a great way to distract them when you leave the house. Try hiding some of your pet's food or some treats in different places around the home or backyard. Remember to use different levels for cats! Sniffing out their next meal will keep them busy and occupied while you are busy. If you have any concerns please give us a call.

03.01.2022 PULLING ON LEAD Halti Headcollar is a training aid for dogs. Made with soft but extremely strong webbing that fits easily onto your dogs's head. Stops dogs pulling while allowing the freedom to pant, take treats and drink. It works using the same principle as a halter when leading a horse. Attach your lead to the Halti connecting ring to quickly and easily teach your dog not to pull away. As your dog begins to pull, the Halti will steer the dog's head towards you, controllin...g the dog's direction of movement. If you would like information on how to desensitise your dog to the halti or help with fitting please let us know.
