18.01.2022 Something else that keeps popping up is the incorrect claiming of daily travel allowances. There are 2 parts of the law that deal with this but a lot of the time this is overlooked. Even accountants and tax agents are claiming this incorrectly with some dire results for clients. Daily travel allowance rates are only of use when the employee has a travel allowance recorded on their payment summary. Some people are claiming amounts of up to $170 per night away from home even when meals and lodgings are provided by the employer. I have pursued this issue with the ATO a number of times to make sure I am not missing something for my clients and it appears I am not. In short, if it sounds too good to be true - it probably is.

05.01.2022 Something I have heard a lot this year is people wanting to claim home pc's and internet for accessing payslips. Whilst I am sure there are a lot of people claiming for this, it must be put into perspective. Firstly consider the amount of time spent checking payslips and then consider the amount of time the internet is used by the household. In most cases the deductible portion is less than 1% of the internet cost. Do not get misled by your workmates.
