25.01.2022 It was nice to consult without a mask today! NSW Health have moved us back to Green Alert after being on Amber the past few months. Oh and in news you’ve all been waiting for...... visiting at Kareena is now back to normal!
24.01.2022 Routine pregnancy scans are done 6-8 weeks to confirm dates, then again at 12 and 19 weeks to make sure your baby is healthy. Many women will need another scan (or several!) if we’re tracking bub’s growth or monitoring any other variations. At each of your appointments with me, we’ll have a quick look at bub also.
23.01.2022 Commercial travel by air whilst pregnant is safe. The small amounts of radiation were exposed to by being in the upper atmosphere arent a concern. Most airlines have restrictions and policies in place for flying during pregnancy, so please confirm any requirements / certificates before you get to the airport! I remember one patient wasnt allowed to check in until I emailed the duty supervisor a clearance certificate - my patient just made the flight!

23.01.2022 Most women finish up work at 36 weeks. If all is going well, there’s no harm in working a little longer. If it’s a multiple pregnancy, or other medical complications develop, we’d advise stopping earlier.
22.01.2022 There are lots of reasons why a woman might find it hard to fall pregnant. Problems with ovulation would be most common. Other common causes include age, endometriosis, and problems with the egg and sperm getting together.
22.01.2022 Estrogen contained in the pill can sometimes increase appetite, so its typically not the pill itself that causes weight gain. Challenges with contraception are a day-to-day scenario for me, so if youve got any concerns its best to discuss within your individual context.
21.01.2022 A rough rule of thumb is that anything you eat should be freshly prepared (or opened from a pack) and cooked through. But avoid bean sprouts! The NSW Food Authority has the best information on what foods not to eat.
21.01.2022 By the time they reach their first menstrual cycle they have around 400,000 (Source: City Fertility)
20.01.2022 Whilst it depends a bit on age, 50-60% of couples will have become pregnant within 6 months of trying. If youre under 35, I normally suggest trying for a year before coming to see me. If youre over 35, consider review after 6 months. If your cycles are irregular, come for review as soon as this issue is identified.
20.01.2022 Although it is called morning sickness, nausea (with or without vomiting) can happen at any time of the day. Morning sickness is a common symptom of early pregnancy and, in many cases, goes away by the end of the first 3 months.
20.01.2022 Im kept extremely busy by my three young daughters! If its not a ballet lesson or helping with homework, then its teaching them to ride their bikes, fish and bake...
19.01.2022 I've been mixing tunes for as long as I can remember! DJing myself through uni, these decks look a little different to the 90's version!

18.01.2022 Cervical screening tests (pap smears) are the best way we can prevent cancer of the cervix. Theres no need to delay seeing your doctor! https://www.abc.net.au//coronavirus-medical-testi/12241812
18.01.2022 Problems with sperm numbers and function can have a number of causes. Common causes include infection, medical conditions, and varicose veins.
17.01.2022 Does pregnancy leave a funny taste in your mouth? You’re not alone. In fact, it is quite common to experience a changing sense of taste, also known as dysgeusia, during pregnancy. Dysgeusia usually happens throughout your first trimester, as early as your first two weeks of pregnancy, and is often characterised by a metallic taste in your mouth. It may cause you to hate a food that you normally love, or enjoy foods you normally dislike.

15.01.2022 There are symptoms that suggest to your doctor that you may have endometriosis like worsening painful periods. An ultrasound can sometimes help with diagnosis. However, the only way to know for sure if you have endometriosis is to undergo a laparoscopy. (Source: RANZCOG)

11.01.2022 Good news for hospital visitors! Now that we’re easing back to our new normal, 2 visitors at a time will be allowed, including older siblings visiting their new baby brother or sister! Formal announcements from hospitals to come. Don’t forget to stay safe!

10.01.2022 Anaria consulting rooms are located a very short walk from both Kareena Private and Sutherland Hospitals, which is where our patients will be admitted. We know your time is precious, so we always endeavour to keep to our schedules. In the event that we've been called into the hospital for a birth or other emergency, Jane or Jo will phone you to let you know that we're delayed.
09.01.2022 Spotting in early pregnancy is very common. You should always run this past your healthcare provider, but most of the time everything will be fine. If the bleeding is heavy and associated with cramps, you should seek medical review.
09.01.2022 I had the opportunity to speak with ABC News Radio this morning about updated COVID-19 information for NSW. Self isolate for 14 days if youve been to a hotspot even if you test negative. Be vigilant with hand hygiene and social distancing. Consider wearing a mask in public in situations where social distancing is difficult. Stay home and get tested if youre unwell. ... 08.01.2022 Unless someone knows about a specific medical issue (eg endometriosis or polycystic ovarian syndrome in women, or testicular trauma or infection in men), most couples wont know theyre infertile until they actually start trying for a baby. - If youre under 35, come for a review after 12 months trying. - If youre over 35, consider a review after 6 months. - If your cycles are irregular, come for review as soon as soon as this issue is identified.
08.01.2022 Whilst pap smears used to be necessary more often, a change in technology in December 2017, along with more HPV vaccination in the community means that the current interval for routine screening is every 5 years.

05.01.2022 Does the scent of your favourite food, body lotion, shampoo, or person suddenly make you queasy? A heightened sense of smell is common during pregnancy. What smells do / did you love or hate when pregnant?
05.01.2022 Most women having their first baby will feel kicks by 20 weeks, although it can be as late as 24 weeks. For second and subsequent pregnancies women will typically feel movements earlier- sometimes little flutters as early as 13-14 weeks!
04.01.2022 The number of eggs you’ll get from an IVF cycle is variable, based on your individual situation. More eggs isn’t necessarily better, and I’ve seen women become pregnant when only a single egg is collected.
04.01.2022 Folic acid is the supplement with the best evidence for benefit in pregnancy. Taking 0.5mg a day reduces the chance of having a baby with spina bifida. If youre in a higher risk group, youll need to increase this to 5mg a day. Other supplements to consider are Iodine and Iron. Many women find it easier to take a pregnancy multivitamin.

04.01.2022 At uni, medical students rotate through all different specialties. During my rotation in O&G I was amazed at the gift of life and the wonderous event of birth. I knew that this was the area I wanted to work in. In gynaecology and fertility, we work at the leading edge of medical technology, which I also love.
