09.01.2022 A laser labial frenectomy procedure also known as, a laser lip-tie release, ablates and revises the frenum (band of tissue that attaches the upper lip to the gums) allowing for proper movement of the upper lip. This can also be done on the band of tissue attaching the tongue to the floor of the mouth (tongue-tie release) allowing normal movement of the tongue. Anomalous maxillary median labial frenum may be associated with undesired effects such as persistence of diastema be...tween anterior teeth or traction of marginal gingiva. This young patient was comfortable throughout the procedure as there was no bleeding, no need for general anaesthesia or sedation and minimal post-operative recovery. Having the lip-tie release performed via laser versus a traditional scalpel allowed for considerable reduction of the operating time, avoiding the need for sutures and resulting in a stable long-term result.
