25.01.2022 Unfortunately our children can get gum disease as well... Here is some advice for parents. :-)

25.01.2022 Why is Dentistry important???

25.01.2022 Do you have bad breath and dont know why? One reason could be because you are not brushing your tongue! Each time you brush and floss your teeth, finish your dental care routine with tongue cleaning. At a minimum, clean your tongue once in the morning and once in the evening before bedtime.

24.01.2022 Every year thousands of adults and children are treated for dental injuries, which could have been prevented, or the severity minimised, by wearing a protective mouthguard. Is a over-the-counter (boil and bite) mouthguard as effective as a custom-made mouthguard made by your dentist? Could the over-the-counter mouthguard potentially cause more harm than good? #mouthguard #protectyourteeth

23.01.2022 Happy Australia Day 2017!

23.01.2022 Happy Valentines Day!

22.01.2022 The Children Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), which has been threatened with closure since March this year, will be retained. The continuation of the CDBS comes with some modifications with the maximum benefits available to each eligible child reduced from $1000 to $700; however, any child who commenced treatment during 2016 will have access to the full original cap amount through the current two-year period.

22.01.2022 Happy New Year! May 2018 bring you joy, peace, health and many many blessings!

22.01.2022 Happy Valentine's Day!

21.01.2022 It is Dental Health Week from 6 - 12 August 2018!

21.01.2022 Always good to remember..... :-)

20.01.2022 Going to the dentist could soon mean no needle as a new nasal spray anaesthetic, Kovanaze, received FDA approval. #painfreedental

19.01.2022 This is how Sleep Apnea (pauses in, breathing/snoring or instances of, shallow breathing during sleep) promotes Cancer growth and what you can do about it... #hypoxia #sleep #apnea #SleepApnea #SleepDisorder #Snoring #Sleep #Insomnia #Airway #Cancer @DrEsterhuysen

18.01.2022 Are you afraid of the dentist? Being afraid of going to the dentist may mean different things to different people. However, it might help if you work out just what it is that worries you. Maybe the sounds and smells bring back memories of bad experiences as a child, or make you think that having treatment will hurt. The good news is that more and more dentists now understand their patients fears. Dental techniques have improved so much over the last few years that modern ...dental treatment can now be completely pain free. It is important to maintain regular check-ups as so much of a persons overall health depends on their oral health. So dont delay... I offer local anaesthetic, inhalation sedation such as Nitrous Oxide (Happy/Laughing Gas) and IV Sedation as options to ensure you have a pleasant, pain free experience in a relaxed environment. :-) See more

17.01.2022 Wishing all my patients and their families a very Merry Christmas!

15.01.2022 What does the weather have to do with toothache? People who fly or scuba dive know firsthand how changes in atmospheric pressure can affect the body. Austrian scientists scientists interviewed patients who had gone to a dental emergency clinic in Innsbruck, Austria, from January to March 2005. They also looked at local weather records for the same time period, specifically the average air pressure for each day and the actual air pressure for each day. The scientists then com...pared the air pressure data for each day with the amount of tooth pain reported by patients. They concluded there is a correlation between deviations in air pressure and the amount of tooth pain reported. If the air pressure for a given day deviates significantly from the norm, then the level of dental pain that is reported increases accordingly. If you have been experiencing tooth pain during pressure change events, call to make an appointment for an examination to ensure there is no underlying problem causing your discomfort. 08 9349 6686

15.01.2022 Would you feel comfortable having a dental implant procedure done by a Robot Dentist? In China, a robot dentist installed two dental implants for a woman on the 16th September 2017. It was the Worlds first fully automated dental implant surgery, reports the South China Morning Post. Human doctors supervised the whole procedure but did not actively intervene. The one hour surgery took place in the city of Xian. According to the report, the robot followed a set of pre-progr...ammed commands to install the dental implants. Experts said that the implants were fitted within a margin of error of 0.2-0.3 mmmatching the standards required for this type of procedure, reports the Post. Robots can safely conduct dental surgeries like implantations with more accuracy and agility in a narrow space like the oral cavity, according to dental experts cited by the Science and Technology Daily. 15.01.2022 Feeling a bit hot? With Summer in full swing, it might be tempting to reach for a sugar-filled soft drink, fruit juice or a sports drink... Tempting though it might be, always remember excessive sugar in these drinks contributes to tooth decay, weight gain, stroke and a host of other serious health complications. Water is always the better option :-) #rethinksugarydrink #sticktowater

14.01.2022 Too many children are now needing surgery to treat tooth decay. This is devastating. And preventable. "It is shameful that a problem which is 90% preventable continues to plague our children in this way, Hunt said.

13.01.2022 Happy Birthday to my Assistant, Maria! Wishing you a wonderful birthday filled with happiness, prosperity and joy! Enjoy your special day!

12.01.2022 Victory! Effective July 1, 2018, amalgam fillings will be banned in the European Union (20 nations, 500 million people) to use in children under the age of 16, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women. While many would like to see it banned for use in adults as well, banning it for use in children is a vital first step, as mercury is most destructive to the childrens neurological development. [This ban] is an open acknowledgment that mercury fillings should not have a ...place in our society, said Philippe Vandendaele of Health Care Without Harm Europe. Multiple studies have found amalgam fillings to cause insomnia, headaches, high blood pressure, mood swings, anxiety, weakness, muscle twitching, impaired vision, and neurological problems. (These studies findings are summarized in lengthy report by International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology or IAOMT). It has been estimated that in 67.2 million people, the mercury in their body is above safe levels because of amalgam fillings. The IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology) recommends the following safety protocol: A dental dam should be used Patients skin and clothing should be protected by a barrier Patient should wear a nasal mask in order to not inhale any mercury vapor Amalgam should be removed in as large pieces as possible Patients mouth should be rinsed out with waster as well as chlorella or charcoal to absorb any heavy metals before and after the procedure Meanwhile, if you have amalgam fillings, it is recommended to remove them safely, as well as to find a mercury-free dentist to avoid getting new toxic fillings in the future. #mercuryfree

11.01.2022 Should you just get your tooth extracted if you cant afford treatment? Consider the following...

11.01.2022 Never put your oral #health and your #teeth at risk by getting treatment by anybody who is not a registered #dental professional. Tooth whitening treatment from unqualified individuals or online purchases can leave you at risk of serious, permanent, long term damage.

09.01.2022 Smile! Its Mothersday! Wishing all the Mothers a very happy Mothers Day. We hope you got spoiled and pampered!

08.01.2022 Back to School! As this is the first week at school for many kids, take a look at what you are sending them with... "Dentists say some of the biggest culprits are highly processed, sugary foods and drinks, and as families gear up for the new school year, they are urging them to cut the empty calories."

08.01.2022 How much sugar is in products we believe to be healthy? That Sugar Movement challenges all Australians to eat less than 6 teaspoons of added sugar a day for the month of June. Can you #stickto6?

06.01.2022 This first shock advertising campaign will highlight the health dangers of too much sugar. Did you know that Australia now ranks as one of the biggest consumers of soft drinks in the World?

06.01.2022 We wish you great dental health and a bright, healthy smile for 2017... Happy New Yearl!!! #HappyNewYear2017

05.01.2022 The harder you brush, the better youre going to clean the plaque off your teeth.... Right? Wrong! Plaque is actually soft! Plaque, the white- or cream-coloured sticky material which causes decay, is often confused with a harder substance called tartar or calculus, which builds up when plaque has been left too long on teeth. Tartar can ONLY be removed by a Dentist or Dental Hygienist by using specialized instruments - it will NOT come off with a toothbrush at all. Just like... having your car regularly maintained by your mechanic, theres more to teeth cleaning than what you can do at home. We therefore recommend regular 6 monthly Scale and Clean appointments as part of your oral health regime to prevent gum disease and keep your teeth healthy. Can you remember when last you had your teeth professionally cleaned? If you cant, it is probably time to make an appointment to see one of our friendly Dental Hygienists to remove all the build up and stains your toothbrush cant remove... ;-) (08) 9349 6686

05.01.2022 Latest News! A team of scientists have managed to repair cavities and regrow teeth by stimulating the naturally occurring stem cells in the tooth to rebuild its dense bony tissue by using an Alzheimers drug called Tideglusib. A biodegradable sponge is soaked in the drug and inserted into the cavity, where it repairs the damage within six weeks. "Fillings work fine, but if the tooth can repair itself, surely [thats] the best way. Youre restoring all the vitality of the ...tooth." Winnie Wong, a dentist based in Hertfordshire, said: Clinically speaking, the best material is always natural tooth structure, so Im sure this method will be encouraged by most dentists. In the study, which has been published in Scientific Reports, the procedure was successfully trialed on mice and led to "complete, effective and natural repair". They are now testing the technique on rats, whose teeth are four times larger than those of mice, and if successful they plan to start clinical trials on human patients later this year. #toothdecay #toothrepair #dentalhealth (For a more in-depth article, follow this URL: https://www.theguardian.com//decline-of-the-dentists-drill)

02.01.2022 Changes are happening.. Act now! As you are most probably aware, HBF currently have a No Gap General Dental for Kids scheme at Member Plus Dentists, which currently covers most dental treatments (including exams, cleans, fillings and extractions). HBF are changing this in April 2016. The No Gap General Dental for Kids will now only apply to preventative dental items - this includes services like consultations, x-rays and cleans and no longer cover restorative items. This mean...s that they will now pay the benefit of 60% or 80% depending on your level of cover, but you will now be out of pocket for the gap payment for things like fillings, extractions and mouthguards etc. If you still have some outstanding dental treatment for your child, we would suggest calling today to schedule an appointment prior to the 1st April 2016.
