11.01.2022 LAUNCH SATURDAY 18TH FEB 2-4PM Exhibition to be opened by Rachel Kent, Senior Curator, Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney

08.01.2022 "Drawing Lines in the Sand" is a group exhibition on Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour, presented by Peloton. Six installation projects have been developed in various locations across the eastern apron of the island. The participating artists have engaged with various aspects of the site’s institutional heritage and topography, considering the island as a historic, tangible place and a symbolic space more broadly. The artworks in the exhibition reflect upon conditions of inte...riority and exteriority in a uniquely Australian context. This relates to a perspective that encompasses contradictory and conflicting extremes, a geographic imaginary particular to the Island Continent. The exhibition goes beyond what Elizabeth McMahon describes as, the Western colonialist tropism of island territories as condensed sites of acquisition, containment and control, to examine its legacy. Visitors can expect to explore a "Virtual Reality Simulator", take a walk through a forest of scaffolding, follow a journey descending into a saltmine, hear a ghost of the many machines that once were deafening within the island’s workshops, and perhaps get lost within a giant drawing. The exhibition is open daily 11am4pm. For more information contact 0410 161841, [email protected], or visit www.peloton.net.au/t/projects. For general Peloton enquiries, contact the gallery 02 9690 2601, [email protected]. For transport information visit www.sydneyferries.info/timetables/cockatoo-island.htm. Cockatoo Island offers accommodation, venue hire, major events, exhibitions, tours, a waterfront kiosk, BBQ and picnic areas and business tenancy. The Visitor Centre is open daily from 10am4pm and entry is free. Visit www.cockatooisland.gov.au for more information.

07.01.2022 Call for volunteers Peloton is presenting an exhibition on Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour in 2012. Drawing Lines in the Sand presents a number of site-specific installations responding to the multi-layered history, architecture and unique environs of the island. Peloton requires volunteers for the period 9 February to 21 March to work as Artist Assistants and Exhibition Assistants. Artist Assistants will help to bump in and out, physically assisting with the installation ...of artworks and generally helping artists. Exhibition assistants will be working on a range of tasks from communicating with the public about the exhibition and art in general, selling exhibition catalogues, assisting with setting up and running the exhibition launch night, minding areas of the exhibition, setting up artists talks and distributing leaflets and posters. If you have a Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate and any relevant bar experience, please let us know as we may need your help for the launch night. We need people who are trustworthy, enthusiastic, interested in art, physically fit, willing to work hard, practical and good at multi tasking. If you would love to be involved in Drawing Lines in the Sand and make this exciting exhibition a huge success, please send an email with the subject "Volunteer 2012" to Caroline at [email protected]. Please include a current CV, the areas you are most interested in, your availability (dates, days of the week, times) and any relevant experience you would like us to know about.
